Geo: -33.916, 18.4222Our first day of the organized tours we booked. Headed south to Hout Bay. Over Chapman's Peak drive to Fish Hoek. Continued to Simons Town to see penguins. Called "Jackass" because they sound like donkeys. (You can't everything up!). Then to the Cape. We have now been to both Cape Horn (South America) and now Cape of Good Hope (Africa). Not too many people can claim that. We are very lucky! Stopped at Groot Constantia for a wine tasting on the way home.... read more

Hello All, Here is my last blog and testament. Tomorrow, I will be flying home after an incredible trip from London to Cape Town via Paris, Amsterdam, Northern Tanzania, Zanzibar, Southern Zambia, Johannesburg and the South African Garden Route. Cape Town has definitely been the icing on the cake and I will be coming back for sure one day. It was a long 6 hour drive from Mossel Bay to Cape Town, but it was well worth the view once we came over the last mountain road and saw the outskirts of Cape Town lighting up the night sky. A trail of ruby red and diamond white lined the main road below leading to the city centre - and to my final destination. As we arrived late on a Saturday night, there wasn't much to do ... read more

It’s been 6 months since I’m back in Curaçao and I’ve been quite busy...and also quite lazy to be honest. Therefore it took SO long to publish this entry. We were in Coffee Bay and got an invitation to stay at a house of Greg’s uncle in Chintsa. We took the Baz Bus and met Greg. We had to walk across the beach towards the house. Nydia had a large suitcase which Greg carried it all the way to the house. It was a though walk with all the luggage but we made it. The house was nicely located with a nice view over the ocean. We had a wonderful two days there with Greg, Alex and Franziska (both Germany) and Hilde (Finland). We ate, drank, danced, chilled at the beach etc. Chintsa itself is a ... read more

Today was the day of wining and dining. We had booked a group tour with yourafricastory. Bruce the owner is really nice guy, he has done so many things in his life, very interesting to talk to. Today we had a small group of six people. We started our day with a hearty breakfast at the lodge. I had muffin and poridge. Then it was off to wineries outside of cape town. The first place we stopped was big winery with cheese tasting also. Here we talked a bit about different wines and how to taste. We tried about 7 wines here, and a lots of cheese. I wish I could buy something here, but we were going to fly domestic soon with no checked bag. Some of the cheese were really good here. Next it ... read more

Landed in cape town today after a 11 hour direct flight. It is far! I decided to take the bus, so thought I needed to exchange some money. There was a long line at the bank, and it was slow going. They told me they charge a fixed 164 Rand fee for exchange, which was like 4%. Bus was easy to take, though the lady there sold me one trip ticket at extra cost of 35 Rand. So two surprises already. Rest of the trip was fine, easy to find the lodge. It is a nice Lodge iKhaya, with direct view of table mountain. Nice location. The rest of the day I wanted to spend walking around, feeling the new country, new continent. This place though does not feel like it, does not seem to have ... read more

Where's Table Mountain CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA - 21st/22nd April This is the only overnight stop on our cruise back from Sydney. Situated on the Atlantic shore of the Cape Peninsula, Cape Town remains the "Mother City" for South Africans.Nestling at the foot of Table Mountain, Cape Town has a huge number of tourist attractions -gardens, museums, historic buildings and plenty of shops. Further afield you have the vineyards and garden route. As always time is a limiting factor and here was no exception. From when we berthed, we new it was going to be a challenging day. Table Mountain was shrouded in cloud and although we had booked to go up by mid morning it was apparent that the cloud was not going to lift. It was more the strong gale force winds that was ... read more

Cape Town is one of the most iconic cities in the world. It's a city in the southern hemisphere on the same latitude as Sydney and Buenos Aires and equivalent to Casablanca and Los Angeles in the northern hemisphere. It lies at the start of a 25 mile peninsula at the extreme South (but west a bit!!) of the African continent. South Africa boasts 11 official languages with English and Afrikaans representing Dutch and English collonisaton sometime back in the 17th century. I'm not too sure if 'boasts' is the correct word to use as India ‘boasts' 1652 mother tongues of which 150 languages are used by a sizable population and even 22 old those are classed as official languages!! In your face South Africa!! (Although you come a very credible second in the ‘who speaks ... read more

It was raining heavily today as we waited for the taxi. If you scroll through the opening blog for most of our other trips you will notice that raining heavily is what it seems to do when the Hodgsons are off on one of their trips. Whether in the midst of winter of mid-summer. Come autumn or spring it is guaranteed to 'piss down' on day one!! Yesterday when checking the hand luggage I asked Roisin for the travel documents. Expecting a few sheets of A4, I was surprised when she held up a bundle of papers that could easily have passed for the briefing documents of O J Simpson's defence!! There were the e-tickets for the train to London, the tickets for the Heathrow express, the tickets for the flight. Hotel reservation, car hire whilst ... read more
