Hi all, we had a nice time at Richards bay but it is time to move on again, this time to Mac Nicols caravan park at bayzlys beach on the KZN south coast. Once again met up with some friends we met at Klein brak, nice to see them again. we went on a boat ride in Snt Lucia with a lot of the people here in the campp site, some real big crocs and hippo in the lake, some pics att. Another challange arised and i really did not enjoy it after all the peacefull months, the Hyundai clutch packed up and i had to have it replaced at a nice price of only R 22800.00, a warning to all terrecan owners, this clutch comes with the flywheel witch is a type of torque absorber ... read more

I spent the most amazing week in Vilanculos, meeting up with many of my friends there and simply enjoying being back in this beautiful beach town...! It really feels like home to me, and even now being in St. Lucia I miss it!! The journey from Vilanculos to Johannesburg was smooth and uneventful. I stayed in a lovely hotel in Johannesburg on Monday 16th July, although it felt strange to be surrounded by modern amenities, the busy roads of Johannesburg etc., which reminded me again how easily I settle in to a much simpler African lifestyle... I arrived at St. Richard's Bay on Tuesday 17th, and was immediately welcomed by the co-ordinator at the airport. The drive from St. Richard's Bay to St. Lucia was very interesting- roads lined with trees for the paper mills, the ... read more

Currently at a networking event for NGOs, this is a starting project to develop stronger links between NGO’s and those who can help, whether it is funding, volunteers, societies etc It is brilliant to be invited and witness empowering movements like this in South Africa. There a range of sectors present which include organisations which work towards positive change in HIV/AIDS, Feeding Schemes, Child Welfare, Employment etc I came across a gentleman of 70 years old by the name of Raj. Raj is an extremely inspiring individual. He ran a shelter of 30+people and discussed how he became a father figure who people within the shelter looked up to. He helped them to be fed and taught them important life principles. He said that some people he had to work with were bad people, admitting to ... read more

So I wake up smiling this morning to the sound of monkeys and their young pattering along the tin rooftop of our hut and the beat of loud house music from the phones of some of the high school students that had arrived at World Changers last night. What others might take as a rude awakening was just another new and exciting moment on the South Africa Challenge. I awoke to the reality however that this was to be my last day in South Africa. I couldn't help but remenice and reach for my tablet to put some of the thoughts into prose. Over the weekend, the team and I have been lucky enough to fit in a few small excursions, as well as go to church and help out around the academy. Saturday brought the ... read more

We are sailing we are sailing. Yes my friend took us sailing yesterday, what a wonderfull experiance, i could quite easely do that for a life, the water was just right, not to rough but with a little swell and just enough wind to get us going. Rod started building this yaught in 1992 when i was still living in Richards bay, and finaly launched the bout in 2002, the first night the bout was out on the water it caught on fire and most of the interriar was destroyed, well he was insured and soon the boat was ready again. Thanks Rod, it was good.... read more

It is only Day 2 but it feels like we've been here a week. We've been warmly welcomed and learnt so much about South Africa; the significant social challenges, the great opportunities that exist, and the wonderful work World Changers Academy and their partners are doing to solve the many and varied social challenges such as AIDS/HIV, Poverty and social inequality, Teenage pregnancy etc that plague the country. The great discovery has been the thriving entrepreneurial community in Durban. Today we visited Darlene Menzies of The Development House - a software and economic development house, who was kind enough to take us through the business philospohy that has made her one of South Africa's most successful businesswomen - what she terms 'compassionate capitalism'. Darlene defines Innovation as 'the ability to see what people see and think ... read more

Hi Hope you are all well, everything fine on our side. We are now in Richards Bay and the right place to be for these colder months, the weather is great. This park seems to cater mostly for pensioners and the older folks so I feel a bit out of place lol. but enjoying it. The park management arranges all sorts of entertainment for the campers, morning tea and snacks, walks on the beach, supper at the bout club witch is realy cheap and good food. On the fishing front not much happening and thay wont allow me on the harbour with my boat, it has to be regestered and sea worthy althow it is in the estuary, doesnt make sense, you can go out in a canoo and paddle around on a ski but not ... read more

I initially signed up to the World Changers Foundation's emerging leaders programme without knowing about the South Africa project. When I first heard about the South Africa Challenge, I was excited straight away. I didn't have to think about whether I would want to go or not. I was definitely down. I firmly believe that every journey widens your horizons. I see this trip as an opportunity to gain a new perspective on life. I'm looking forward to seeing how people from other cultures live and the differences and similarities in our values. The prospect of learning new leadership skills and developing as a person are key factors of this trip. I aim to live my life in such a way that I die empty, meaning that every gift and talent within me is poured out. ... read more

Tuesday 12th June It's finally happening. 11 months of planning, deliberation and gaining of logistical support is finally escalating to a wonderful climax. That climax is the reality of the South Africa Challenge; being in South Africa, helping others, learning about ourselves and learning about the world. I couldn't help but feel bubbly and excited from the moment I set foot in the Heathrow terminal 4 building this morning, only to be met by the enthusiastic team that I have come to know during the learning process of developing this project. As I write this, I am at 35,000 feet in the air and am current passing over the sahra desert. The immeasurable and vast and rolling sand dunes are almost hypnotic in effect. They have given me time to think amidst the flurry of excitement ... read more
