Hello everyone! Just thought I'd update you on what's been happening... After our trip from Cape Town to Durban we haven't been up to much, besides hanging out and relaxing with tezz's family in Durban. After going to Ushaka Marine World (that Heidi) we decided to head back to the Drakensberg for 4 days. This time we went to the Northern part which was just as spectacular as the southern part and not as exhausting! We camped (once again back to the tent) at two places Hlalanathi - near the "Amphitheatre" and Didima - near "Cathedral Peak" (Didima has no electricity), all cooking had to be done on the fire. Unfortunately is was cold and rainy most of the time so we were unable to go on any hikes, we wouldn't of seen much besides ... read more

Today was a bittersweet day, as we had to bid farewell to Pops (aka Highlight, Keefus, Monkey man, etc.) as he left Africa. We dropped him off at the Durban (or Dooban) airport in the late morning. It was sad to see him go. I hate dropping people off at the airport, especially curbside--unload their luggage, time for a quick hug, and a wave farewell as you're driving away from the sidewalk before your car gets towed. No time to lament. Five minutes prior, it was a regular car ride. It's hard to say everything you want to say, and feel everything you want to (or will) feel in a regular car ride. Enough lamenting. We all had a wonderful time together, and are very happy that Pops was able to come along. Erin writes: After ... read more

I've hardly been in South Africa and I alreayd have to leave, that makes me sad. I''ve had such a wonderful time here, I love this country to pieces and I wish I didn't have to go so soon. I have been staying with my Aunt Anne since being in Durban which has been lovely. She has the most gorgeous Pikinese (sp?) dog who had a fascination with my left foot, bless her. And a lovely cat who was very put out during my stay, as I had stolen her bed. My first night I just spent relaxing and then had a lovely long lie in the morning. Then we tried to go on a karkloof canopie tour, which is a big foife slide (yes they are called that, it sounds like foo-fee) through the canopy ... read more

Today is a rest day in Umhlanga Today I slept in, ran errands and visited the Durban Ducati shop near the hotel. In the afternoon I took a cab down to the beach and walked north where there were hardly any people. A1 cart racing is on this weekend and I suspect most people are down town taking in all the festivities. I have the beach all to myself and walk for miles without running into anyone.... read more

Today we ride from Mthatha to Umhlanga (North suburb of Durban) through back roads and following the coast. I rode with John and Dave this morning until we caught up with the rest of the group (Peter, Bob, Phebe, Patrick, Otto, Ellen, Murray, Peri and Ian) at Port St. Johns. The town was more rural than I expected. People stood in the streets and gawked at the strange gang of motorcyclist cruising down Main Street. I was at the back of the pack so by the time I cruised by the locals they were out lining the streets. Main Street dead ended, so I had to loop back out of town on a secondary street. The crowd rushed to the next street to keep watching. Being the focus of attention made me so nervous that I ... read more

Well hello everyone, I've decided to enter 2007 in Africa with a few changes. 1) new home! My old place, though full of wonderful roommates and views, was getting a bit to pricey for my heavily reduced budget, so i've moved just around the corner to a new abode. I'm living in a cottage behind someones home. One of two cottages behind the home actually. Its a great little place, I love it. I'll take some pics soon. They have a kitty named, creatively enough, "Kitty" who is either chronically unappreciated at home or an attention addict and always wanders in looking for belly scratches. 2) I have decided to enter the 21st century and had internet hooked up at my place at a cost so astronomical i don't even want to talk about it. i ... read more

Hello to all! We're staying in our first backpackers in Durban - so we have internet accesss finally. We doing fine - first impressions are that the drivers are mad, and the security is big but so far we have had no trouble. We're heading to the Drakensburg in a few days for a camping adventure with family. Yesterday we went to see some Zulu dancing and also did a short safari - take a look.... read more

Hi folks. Well we're back in Durban now having spent a couple of days in St Lucia. It seems the dodgy pool there has taken its toll on Bri as he now has ring worm :P Nothing that course of athelete's foot cream cant solve but fairly minging none-the-less. Aside from that our stay up there was very enjoyable. We went on a (supposedly) guided walk through the game park to an alarmingly close view of the resident hippos there (the guide didn't seem too bothered about the obvious safety issue) and generally just chilled out. We arrived back in Durban on Monday and pitched up again at the same back packers that we had been a few days before on the Bluff. There we met up with Tim (yet another insane Dutchman in Africa) and ... read more

Hi folks. Just a quickie this time to keep you abreast of the latest Linz and Bri action. Well we headed in our four wheeled beast to Mossel bay for one night's camping before heading into the Knysna forrest for two nights at the horse farm there. Unfortunately for Linz she didn't notice the speed camera between Wilderness and George and we await a nice fine when we return the car. At least they don't have points on the license over hear yet. A little rain put a dampener on Linz's horse riding expedition into the forrest and a prior forrest fire meant the place was a little light on atmosphere... or, indeed, any other guests. Knysna lagoon is quite beautiful, however, and we got some nice shots there. The next day we headed to Plettenburg ... read more
