The past weeks have been all about meeting friends, having a lot of fun with them and then difficult goodbyes. Starting with our friends Monique and Judith coming to visit us and meeting with a long lost friend Marjolein in Sao Paulo, then celebrating Christmas and New Year and having a lot of fun in between with Geesje and Wilco in Hermanus, South Africa, then meeting with Monique again but now in Cape Town and a two week catching up and travelling through Namibia with Riemke and Mariska. Nach einer verhältnismässig kurzen Fahrt von 188 km, aufgestockten Vorräten, vollem Tank und neuem Bargeld sind wir im Etoscha Nationalpark angekommen. Unsere erste Lodge ist schön gelegen, edel aber ein spürbarer Staatsbetrieb. Wir spüren, dass sie sich im Team nicht wirklich gut verstehen. Wie immer füllen wir diverse Formulare aus. Sie finden dann aber den Schlüssel zu Nummer Vier nicht und quartieren uns in Nummer Drei um, dies führt bei Bestellungen in der Bar zu amüsanten Verwirrungen... Im Gespräch mit einigen erfahren wir, dass Mugabe gerade in Zimbabwe (unsere letze Station) vom Militär zum Rücktritt bewegt wurde und führen eine interessante Diskussion. Schliesslich geht es los, im eigenen Fahrzeug durch den Nationalpark. Ok, way behind on our travelblog. We arrived in Windhoek on the 24th and set off for our three week camping experience in Namibia. First stop was Etosha National Park where we spent 4 days, 3 of them camping and one delightful night at Dolomite lodge. Internet has been scarce, we are now at a very nice lodge in central Namibia and will try to download some pics from Etosha. It was amazing to just drive and see so many animals!!... read more

Arrived in Cape Town, a little stressed from the travelling and worried I’d miss our pre-departure meeting. Fortunately everything was pretty quick and I found a taxi really easily. Although I couldn’t venture into Cape Town much, due to leaving early the next morning, it seemed like a really nice city, quite European in parts with districts where the touristy areas are, more than others. The waterfront was something else, complete with flamingos next to golf courses with what felt like a cold Scottish Easterly breeze coming off the coastline. I will definitely have to revisit and climb table mountain and explore the city far more. Day 2 started the 10500+km to Nairobi. Smutni i zmęczeni dotarliśmy do naszego Caotinha Guesthouse. Po drodze rozważaliśmy rożne opcje: zostać w Wind na weekend - bez sensu, tracimy dwa dni na siedzenie w mieście, gdzie nic nie ma, a zapłacone noclegi w parku przepadają, jechać nie oglądając się na wizę, bez dokumentów? Może jednak trochę stres, bo będziemy nielegalni i kto wie, co nam zrobią, jak nas złapią. A jak ci na lotnisku zobaczą, ze zignorowaliśmy ich nakaz niedopuszczania miasta i stawienia się w ministerstwie w pierwszym możliwym terminie, też nie wiadomo, jak zareagują. Postanowiliśmy pojechać jednak do parku narodowego Etosha oglądać słonie i lwy w sobotę rano - zgodnie z planem, i wrócić w poniedziałek.
