I woke up this morning a bit sad that the tour had now ended but I'm glad I stayed another night before flying out to Paris. Prior to coming on this trip, the plan was to use this extra day to take a day trip over to Ait Benhaddou. However, I made such good friends with some of the people on this tour that I instead chose to spend the day hanging out with them. Looking out the window this morning, the weather did not look good. The skies were looking quite ominous and appeared ready to drench Marrakesh at any moment. Troy and Melanie were not staying at the hotel tonight but were instead transferring to a riad in the middle of the medina. The plan for the morning was for them to drop off ... read more

So after surviving the overnight train, we finally made it to our final city and Morocco's tourism hot spot, Marrakesh. We pulled into Marrakesh's train station at around 9am and again we all caught taxis from the station to our hotel in the Ville Nouvelle section of Marrakesh, Hotel Le Caspien. While driving around in the taxis, it was apparent why Marrakesh was known as the red city as the walls and buildings seem to all be some sort of reddish tint. In 24 hours we had gone from the blue town to the red city! As it was still early in the morning, our rooms were not yet ready so Abdul recommneded that we go out and find breakfast somewhere. Melanie, Troy, Liz, Sophie, and I went wandering and eventually made to Avenue Mohammed V, ... read more

Hi everyone, this is my first blog and writing about my travel activities. I've been travelling since 2008, when I first started to work as a Sales Executive for a multinational medical company. I was lucky to be given loads of opportunity to travel abroad for work and leisure. This first writing is about my not-so-honeymoon trip with my husband. Morocco wasn't actually part of my honeymoon plan. I actually plan to spend most of my 6 days in Granada and Madrid. However, looking at the madness offered by Ryan Air, I accidentally bought a one way ticket to Marrakech from Madrid. I planned the whole honeymoon journey, 6 days , 3 days in Morocco and 3 days in Spain. Super hectic and I just don't know whether it is achievable when I drafted my plan. ... read more

Introduction We spent two weeks in Morocco in December and January. We have decided to write three blog entries from this journey and we start by writing about Marrakesh and Casablanca simply because that is where we started this trip. Marrakesh Marrakesh sounds very exotic to us. Almost like places that only exist in fairytales such as Hogwarts, Tatooine, Shire or Narnia. In one part of the city, the medina quarters, we sometimes felt like we were warped into an episode in One Thousand and One Nights. But most of the city looks like any other city and couldn't be less exot... read more

Au ... read more

Christmas holidays so the world at our feet! No spinning of the globe to choose our destination, we had decided on Morocco a long time ago. It's hard to believe it's 16 years since we were last in the country. There have been many changes since then. Improved transport is a big plus but the influx of tourism and raising of prices is a huge negative! We had a VERY early start to this holiday. Having finished work at 9.30pm on the Thursday evening, we had to be up at 4.00am! A quick shower and last minute packing saw us in a taxi pretty sharpish and at Pamplona airport to check-in at 5.30, just an hour before take-off. Would you believe it, the desk wasn't even open at that time. They sauntered along at about 5.45 ... read more

Firstly, i'll just explain the title. 'Marrakech', coz thats where we were, and 'Express' because I reckon its a place you want see and get out of as quickly as possible. Also, the song... It's in your head now isn't it? :D So, Marrakech. You will get scammed in some shape or form. This is a fact. Its best just to accept it and move on. Our first day consisted mainly of getting completely lost. Marakech is a maze of markets and houses, unnamed alleys and dusty roads. The mosques are the best navigation tool. They are all named and because it's prohibited for buildings to be taller than a mosque, you can always find your way to one. Although we hadn't figured that out yet on the first day, so we spent 5 hours 'exploring'. ... read more

I can dampen most people’s spirits. I can see the possible catch in the ‘too good to be true.’ I am the wary one with eyes in the back of my head, scamometer on alert when being spoken to, guided by etc. but I didn’t see this one coming. Seasoned travellers beware. There is always a new scam even for the most suspecting of tourists. Number 15 stall on the Djemaa el-Fna did themselves proud. An engaging young man with a large smile and a small koala keyring in his pocket together with a charming sense of humour elicited our promise to return to dine after a perusal of the covered market. He laughed when we came back and sat down. The maitre-d if you could call him that gesticulated wildly at the array of vegetables, ... read more
