May 1 On our way back to Luxor we once again stopped at Edfu for the night. we decided to have a walk down the streets to have a look at daily life there. We collected quite a crowd of kids all saying hello to us as we walked by. We were the pied piper as they all started to follow us. May 2 Back in Luxor again for the day. We had a nice walk around the markets again and then we all found a cafe where we could try smoking a shesha. Judith was so funny, she is a great sport. Later Kathy, Judith and I went to have a drink at the Winter Palace. This was where Agatha Christie stayed when she wrote "Death on the Nile". Our last night on the boat ... read more

Giftun Island can be reached by many tourist boats taking off from Hurgada in less then an hour. The sand is really white and water magic. And we did lot of snorkeling along the coral reefs too. The area is protected and construction forbidden, but there are too many tourists for my taste. Luckily the stay on the Island is limited so they don’t manage to disperse and make more damage, but being here alone must be something special.... read more

Hurgada is 36km long seashore resort on the Red Sea. It seamed rather new and boring so nothing attracted us except prospect of snorkeling in the famous waters and visiting our friends Tamara and Marko who worked in El Gouna. We decided to go over agency because it was impossible to get to charter flight from Belgrade to Hurgada otherwise. Joca lost a wallet on the plane and a friendly guy found it. Good start of a journey. The airport was like a large tent. The group was greeted by charming Ali Salama. We arrived late at night and the cold desert wind was merciless and didn’t promise much fun. But later the weather was better and rather hot during the day (till 3p.m.). The night was falling sharp and hard at this time of the ... read more

El Quseir Nice place. Right on the Red Sea. Across that sea is Saudi Arabia. We’re in Egypt. That’s in Africa. We’re a short boat trip from Arabia. All this probably won’t sink in until three weeks after we’re home. I’ve been internet deprived and even though the brochure said wireless access, not. So forget that, Kim and I are heading to the pool. We did have a relaxing day. I, of course, wanted a massage, but my leg is still too swollen. Last night I only slept a couple of hours because I couldn’t get comfortable. Didn’t know what to do with my leg. Felt like a zillion fire ants were munching on it. Huuurrrrtttt!!! Put the leg up. Nope. Put the leg down. Nope. Can’t lay on side or tummy. Can’t sleep on back. ... read more

Since being in Slovakia is such hard work...Sylvia and I decided we needed to get away from it all and take a little vacation. I convinced Sylvia that Egypt would be very interesting, since the pyramids were something I had always wanted to see. We booked a trip to stay at a resort along the Red Sea near Hurghada and flew from Kosice on a chartered flight with nothing but Slovak vacation-goers. We arrived at the airport in Hurghada and then took a bus the 40km to our resort, which was really more like a compound. Since such resorts are basically in the middle of the desert, they must function on an 'all-inclusive' program, since there are no restaurants or civilization to go to for food. I was warned not to drink the water except from ... read more

So a year has passed from my AMAZING trip around Europe, and i have been getting very itchy feet, needing to travel again. My in June, my boyfriend Colin and I decided last minute to take a trip to Egypt as i have wanted to go there for so many years. So we booked a holiday to the lesser know area of Hurghada on the coast within reasonable distance to Luxor. The week was lovely as we went on the beach, explored just outside the hotel, went snorkeling in the Red Sea, but unfortunately half way into the week Colin comes down with D&V and so the trip to Luxor is hanging in the balance. Desperate to see what i hve always wanted to see, i run around trying to get tablets for him to make ... read more

Day 12 This was our last full day in Hurghada so we thought we better get out and not spend the entire time by the pool. We went on a jeep safari. We were piled into land cruisers and off into the desert we drove. This time we were lucky enough to be with a large group from Poland. Again we were the only non Polish people besides the guides in the group. We arrived at a Bedouin village and after some tea in the huts, we were taken around to see how they live. We had another opportunity to ride camels in a circle but passed on this one as we were still sore from the 50 minute camel ride in Aswan. The local women were making some of the best Arabic bread direct with ... read more

Day 11 The day started as our first day that we did not have to get up and had no plans. So we slept in, ate a huge breakfast and then proceeded down to the pool and beach to start our day's activities of absolutely nothing. It was great. The weather was perfect, hot but not too hot. We did spend a good part of the day answering questions to the workers of where we were from. Not one guessed we were from America. They all assume Germany, Holland or Italy. And many said we did not have an American accent. Guess they do not get many Americans here. We completed the day with a nap in the room watching some Beverly Hills Cop II. Quality American TV. Now we are heading to dinner and then ... read more

We had to skip a few days’ journals that we will make up later for, because we just could not pass up telling you about day 9 and 10. Day 9 Day 9 started with our departure from Aswan and the Nile cruise. Betty and Judy had an early flight to Cairo and then back to the U.S. This is officially the end of their trip. Now Kirsten and Chester do not have to worry about some woman pounding on their door at 6:30 in the morning and calling that “a wake-up call.” Chester and Kirsten took a later flight from Aswan via Cairo to Hurghada, Egypt, a resort area located on the Red Sea. The resort is beautiful and is right on the beach overlooking the Red Sea. It has all white buildings and an ... read more
