To end our time in Broome we had a beautiful dinner while looking at the sunset over our champagne…backpackers to our core! We went to see Straight 2 the Ace in Oasis this night…well we kinda felt we had to seeing as we had told the whole world to go the night before. We had a dreadful feeling that they had performed at the Open Mike night and were horrific….however, we were proved wrong and they were actually great! http://www.straight2theace.com/pictures.php ... read more

Wellington After finishing our South Island adventures, George, Tom, Ally & I took the Inter Islander ferry UP to the North Island. This was a rocky three hour ride to the capital of New Zealand, Wellington. Wellington was a groovy, bustling place, big on Arts, cafe/food culture, and New Zealands film culture resides here, especially Lord of the bloody Rings! If fact every shop in NZ will sell preciously cheap LOTR takk, to expensive Elvish rings like the one in the film! nice... We stayed for three nights at Base hostel - which is a big chain in hostels, fairly cheap, over used kitchens & tv area, etc...We had a wicked night out at Shooters bar where we partied with Mouri's (or nutters!!) After a few lazy days we hiked up to the highest point of ... read more

Well, I arrived on the 26th and have had a wonderful week of wandering around, window shopping and lazing in the sun. Cairns is a cool place. Lots to do and great access to the reef, although I've not bothered, having seen what I'd consider enough on my Whitsnudays snorking excrsions - yes I know the reef is massive, but you know what I mean. As I mentioned, I met up with Em and Gem in Gilligans Hostel as soon as we all arrived and together with Laura and Suze we ventured out into, what was to turn out to be, the first of many nights out on the town. Sunday saw Gem, Em and myself jump into Emma's jeep and zoom off 'up north' to Cape Tribulation, (whenever you say 'Cape Tribulation' you have to ... read more

G'day!! Starting from where I left of then - last weekend we very kindly had some free time again! So we put that to good use - on the saturday we went to Rottnest Island - a small but perfectly formed and very picturesque island just of the coast from freo. Not much to do there really but it was a very relaxing day - went round the whole island, had a relaxing stroll looking at the island native animals - Quokkas. These furry critters are basically small Kangaroos but Ames thought they were cute. On the sunday we went into Perth for a nose around. It's a fairly nice city - it's very clean and modern - the streets are really clean and there is no chewing gum stuck on the floor! It's a funny ... read more

Hi Visitors Typically Hinkleys leaving everything to the last minute. The good news is I have set up this travel page with the help of Lee, just before he sets off to USA. As for Pete and Shirl, well we dont leave until Wednesday and then we fly the opposite way. First stop Dubai......plenty of shopping!! If you would like to check my photos, I have added our poorly timed family accident. The good news is Hannah is out of plaster now and a lot more comfortable. The $6,000 xray is here to remind me what I would have been spending in Paris. I guess Hannahs joy of chasing a ball makes it worth it....I think. As for Tully, well she has settled in, and as you can see, she will miss us....if not us, surely ... read more

We have been having so much fun in the campervan- but it gets really cold at night, so have resorted to having the two sleeping bags and duvet and sheep at night, and its still cold - oh well - we are used to it being hardened british. Hey another idea of how cold it is, they gave us snow chains when we rented the van - how cool is that!!! hopefully we wont have ot use it! Just a quick one as we are in a remote place and the net is expensive....went to see some seals and penguins today, and the moreaki boulders - beck you will have to explain them to me!!!! Gday folks, Greetings from Blogland. It's been some time since I've added an entry and I've received nothing but abuse from the punters back home because of it so my apologies for not spending the duration of my trip sitting at a computer tap tap taparooing away at the keyboard! Seeing as I have so much to fill you all in on I reckon I might split this up into two blogs - don't want anyone to fall asleep mid paragraph you see. So... After leaving the wonderous terrain and pristine mountain biking conditions of the Snowy Mountains with my life barely in tact I jetted (by coach) into Canberra. Now Canberra cops a pretty bad wrap from your average Aussie as being more suited as the capital of Porn and Fireworks rather than the capital ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Melbourne » City Centre June 2nd 2006

Helloo there everyone... This week we have mostly been in Melbourne, sampling the sights and sounds and munch in this funky city :) Melbourne is cool and small enough to get about the whole of the city centre on foot, or if you're lazy like us - on the tram (once youve figured out which one you want and where the hell its going!) Theres lots of shopping, museums and yummy places to eat - like the chocolate heaven that is Max Brenners Chocolate Cafe! Must have been in there about 3 times so far this week - the best hot chocolate and cakes and puddings ever...all served with a lil pot of melted chocolate for you to dip into! Mmmmm...there are giant 10 kg slabs of dark, white and milk chocolate around the cafe - ... read more

Ash, my mate from home, kindly invited us to stay at his sister's house while she was on holiday (Thanks Laura!). Taking a welcoming break from the stress of back-packing, we relaxed for a few days, spending one afternoon trekking through the forest that is Ash's back garden, as he excitedly looked for snakes. He once heard some thumping about and saw a kangaroo. Fortunately, the only thing we did see was a spider the size of my hand, as I came face-to-face with it when I nearly walked straight into its web! The next day we went surfing, putting the lessons we'd had in Byron Bay to good use as we rented the boards and threw ourselves into the ocean. It wasn't so easy this time, as the boards were less stable and the waves ... read more

Day 12 (June 2) Wow! I just jumped out of a plane at 15,000 feet. It was amazing. As you can see from my picture I was terrified... I had a great time on the hike with my new British friends (Adrian, Sophie, and Lucy). They're so nice and fun and we all have similar senses (?) of humor. After the hike we were headed the same direction so we've carpooled over the last few days. I'll post pics of them when I get a chance... I first heard about sky diving in Taupo when I was in Raglan. A Canadian guy was telling me about it and said it was one of the coolest things he'd ever done. I then heard the same thing from a few more people... My Brit friends were all ... read more
