It's been a few days since I've had a chance to sit down and do this, but I wanted to give an update on the past few days so that I hopefully won't forget anything. The past few days have been awesome, although it's quickly becoming obvious that I sure could use some more time here (as some of you warned me). We've worked our way all the way down the west coast of the south island - the most awesome scenery I've ever seen - and I'm now sitting in an internet cafe in Christchurch (on the east coast), my last stop before flying back to Auckland on Thursday (it's now Tuesday afternoon here) to catch my flight back to the states. I think my last entry was from Greymouth, where I very much enjoyed ... read more

Just past midnight and I’m still up trying to get the last of it packed before our flight tomorrow morning. Organisation evidently isn’t my forte, but I did manage to squeeze in a chocolate tour and movies at work on Monday so at least I’ve got my priorities straight. I’d love to say my travel plans are all a bit up in the air at the moment (more romantic that way), but given the fact I’ve just spent the past year and a half pretending to be an analyst and becoming way too familiar with an excel spreadsheet, everything is all pretty much meticulously sorted out, from overnight hostels to dates and times of trains to catch. Over judicious this may seem, but it’s cheaper this way, and Indians are nothing if not economically conservative / ... read more

Hello and welcome to the latest instalment of my travels. Sadly Ive been a bit poor on updating this as the World Cup has held my attention recently. Ive watched at least one game every day, and thats quite impressive in my eyes seen as the matches dont kick off till 11pm, 2am and 5am over here. Crazy I know- surely FIFA should have looked into these time differences and taken into account that Im travelling and should have put all games on at a more reasonable hour. Sort it out Pele!! Since I reported last time, we have enjoyed 10 wonderful days in Australias, if not the Worlds greatest city, Sydney. Not only is this city good, its amazing!! I dont know why exactly other than it has got everything you want from a city, ... read more

Just a quick photo update so my next entry doesn't take forever to write up. Last night was my first time to step into the Indian Ocean, but the Indian Ocean didn't much want me. A gigantic wave came up and soaked me to my waist, it was hilarious.... read more

Just outside of Darwin I stopped again at the Aboriginal Arts centre just so that I could play with the snake! I was then off into Kakadu National Park, passing through a little place called Humpty Doo. Nothing important about the place at all, I just liked the name. Jabiru is at the heart of the National Park but being fully booked up I had to stay in Cooinda. The wet season finished late this year and as a consequence most of the attractions of the National Park are closed. During the wet season salt water crocodiles move around freely in the high waters. When the waters drop they then have to be removed from areas that tourists will be going. This process has not yet been completed so most places are still closed. I did ... read more

We spent 4 days in the nations capital, Canberra. It has just over 300,000 people living there so is a lot smaller than Sydney, Melbourne and the like. In yesteryear when men were men and all that jazz Melbourne and Sydney were great rivals so it was decided to build a capital city in between them both: Canberra was built in the early twentieth century for the sole purpose of becoming the new nation's capital. Our Youth Hostel was the most expensive one we've stayed in so far: still only 15 round pounds a night though. It was well worth the money: it had a free pool table, nice TV room, was clean and generally looked modern. It also had on the Lower ground floor, a heated Swimming Pool and Jacuzzi- the perfect atmosphere for us ... read more

June 2-19 Ok this is the long awaited story about australia....get ready!! i left on friday night from LA and arrived in Sydney on Sunday morning. Then I got on an immediate connecting flight which I almost missed to Brisbane which is the capital of Queensland. I met up with Mike and we walked around the city, through the Queen St. Mall area and to South Bank, which has a place you can swim with a small beach right up against the river, plus a great view of the city. The next day we rented a car and started the drive up the west coast. We stopped in Noosa Heads Beach for lunch and walked around the little town, which is a rich little area for mainly retirees who have too much money. Then onto Hervey ... read more
