While I was making my way from Adelaide to Alice Springs, I met a Brit who told me about a joey rescue center in Alice where you got to hold baby kangaroos. This guy's voice and face changed as he described his visit, kind of like a little girl face's when she's holding a kitten. I had very limited time in Alice Springs but the rescue center became a priority. I got there in the evening after the center closed, left the next day for a three day camping trip, and flew back to Sydney around 11 A.M. the moring after I got back to Alice from the camping trip. I figured I had about an hour for the joeys befor I had to get a cab to the airport. I got to the center about ... read more

Got the ferry from Wellington to Picton and then boarded the bus again for the journey south. Wellington was nice, but wet. Busy few days, when Team Handsome became proud Scottish warriors dressed in bin liners at the Poo Pub fancy dress night. We also had a full day hike on the amazing Franz Josef glacier - has to be seen to be fully appreciated.... read more

To be a successful farmer--and by that i mean, to be a farmer who doesn't go mad and throw himself in front of a tractor or play hide-and-seek with his cows--you have to possess a fantastical, and often cynical sense of humor. the fire will burn where you don't want it to and will completely avoid the dead tree you've been trying to burn out for the past week. when it finally does burn out, the dead tree will do exactly what you've been trying to get it to do for days; it will fall over...right on top of the fence. the frost will kill all your plants but won't harm a solitary leaf on a single weed, a weed that is also killing your plants. the cows will be unwilling to move to a fresh ... read more

My time in Sydney is quickly coming to an end. I leave on Monday 26.06 to head to Bangkok. My last few weeks in Australia have been a great finale. I enjoyed my jobs (though I also enjoyed the few free days I've had this last week!), I made some great friends, and all in all....I've definitely become quite fond of Sydney. I think it's fair to say that my perspective on Australia has changed a massive amount during my 7 month stay. I remember when I first landed in Sydney and had absolutely no clue what I was getting myself into...well what I ended up finding out was that Australia is full of fantastic places and people. The landscape is gorgeous...my top locations were 1. the view of Bondi Beach the first time the car ... read more

Well, this blog is written with mixed feelings. I’m now professionally older in years than when I started this trip. Yes, the grand old age of 24 has reached me as of 23rd June. On the plus side, this means I’m one year nearer to wiping that pesky student loan at 65, one year nearer some kind of highly amusing mid-life crisis, and one year nearer to retiring on a porch in the sun drinking port with a Labrador at my feet and a pipe. However, I still feel old. Hey ho…everybody laughs at this, so I will too. The actual event of birthday is catalogued in the accompanying pictures and basically involved small time - but jolly fine celebrations, with minimal cards, cheese and biscuits as presents (much saluting to Claire for concentrating on the ... read more

Hoi allemaal, Hier weer even een update vanuit Socceroo-land!

Update from Zoe The All Blacks game was brilliant (even though Ireland lost), the public transport here is really good and they laid shuttles on to Eden Park, which is out of the city centre. It was absolutely peeing it down and we were in the uncovered part, so we blagged a bin liner from the bar and both sat in it - it all added to the experience! The next day we had a mooch about Auckland, which is nice our hostel is right in the centre so it makes getting around really easy. Just before dusk we went up the sky tower, it was a great time to go, as we go to enjoy the amazing views in the daytime and night (although not so sure dan was enjoying the views at the very ... read more

Oh my god I'm in THE most annoying internet cafe! Everytime I come in here he either decides to either close for lunch, or tells me that none of the computers are working! Its really really annoying! My problem is however, that its cheap, about half the price of everywhere else, bugger!! Hmm now where to pick up again, oh yes last Sunday, we didn't go to the comedy thing as we stayed at Ketrina and Ray's house. I went and met them at the end of the race, although Ray didn't run becuase he wasn't very well! Ketrin and Karmayne did really well. They came in the top 20 of their category and about half out of the whole thing, which was amazing. Also, Karmayne has never competed before so that was even more of an ... read more

First day writing on a travel blog! Am hoping this will be easier that sending out group emails...and less annoying for people who don't like recieving them but still want to check what I am doing every now and again! Am still in Darwin but have decided the quickest way to get to Cairns is just to fly. Tried to find a car share but left it all a bit late and really want to meet up with Katie who have just spoken to! She slept most of the flight over and is now sitting by the pool with Clare and Roisin (but apparenty it is a bit cold to swim at the moment!). Have found a flight for $330 so just got to wait for Pat to get back from Kakadu and then we can ... read more
