Touched down in Sydney tonight and was so happy! I actually flew into Sydney on Thursday but went to the Gold Coast for my cousin's wedding. Tonight will be my first night in my own bed!!! I am so looking forward to it! Our Europe trip was so much fun! We saw a lot of things in a short amount of time! I'm looking at the photos now and it's really hitting me what we actually did! In summary... * Fave cities - Barcelona - it's clean, has wide streets, best shopping, getting around on public transport is easy. I also liked Lucerne. Lucerne was just beautiful! Also had fantastic weather there. Amsterdam, friendliest people! Singapore, first-class city. Very modern! * Least fave cities - London, so expensive and people not so friendly. Paris, smokers smokers ... read more

my last night in sydney.......its strange but ive grown accustom to this city, having only been here a week its still going to be strange having to look around a different town/city nearly everyday. But its an adventure. Yesterday was a day alone in the City as Lucy went to meet some friends somewhere and have lunch, so i was left alone to wander the city and do as i seem fit. which wasnt much as Nationwide went down and i couldnt get any money out...so i just walked for about 3 hours. Today was a bit of a lazy day. I woke up at about 12, after watching englands awful game at 1am the night before. And i felt like hell, now it may have been because everytime i put my empty pint glass ... read more

Welcome to our first installment of the 'Great Blondini' tour. Please excuse the bleakness of this entry as I am only new at this journal writing caper, but am hoping to improve spelling and grammer the more I write. With only this week to go at work we are getting real excited about what lies ahead. The plan goes a bit like this. On Sunday 2nd July we set off on a whirlwind tour of the North Island from Welly. We will visit friends and reles in Wangas, New Plymouth, Hamiltron, Auckland, Whangamata, Tauranga and Hawkesbay with hopefully a stop to do a bit of skiing. We return to Wellington on the 15th July for niece Zoe's birthday party. Then its off on the big trip on 22nd July. We stop in Singapore for 8 days ... read more

Well here i am finally about to leave, cant wait to get it over with! The last week has been pretty hectic, i thought i'd have things under control, and well i mostly do, but there's still a few loose ends still to finish off. Just as long as i dont forget anything! So a quick summary of the highlights of the last week; Friday 16th - Party! Thanks to everyone who came despite the miserable weather, was good to get a chance to say goodbye to most of you. Saturday 17th - Discgolf! The farewell round was great even with mixed weather there was still a good turn out, i dont really remember much of it, but i'm pretty sure i must've won since it was my course! That night had a BBQ with the ... read more

Well my first chapter of travelling is almost over. I had no idea I would fall in love with Australia this much! I am just fascinated by its diversity and range of people who all seem to be happier and friendlier because of the weather I think! It's amazing to think I have been here for nearly 5 and a half months, all of which has flown by so fast yet I've still had time to do everything that I wanted to and not feel rushed. I'm leaving Western Australia (which is like half of the country!) for when I return... The last few days in Sydney have been more about the evenings and sleeping in. My whole dorm gets on soooo well and we've been going out as a group all the time, therefore all ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Port Douglas June 26th 2006

So - Lauren Polly and David have arrived. Wrecked after the excrutiating journey. But worth it on arrival. Within an hour of arriving at Port Douglas, we were sat underneath palm trees on the beach eating breakfast watching the boats head off to the barrier reef. Great apartment - everyone really friendly. This morning planned a four wheel drive expedition up the coast, a trip up the rivers crocodile spotting (Polly asked what to wear - the answer presumably is nothing as crocodiles like flesh, not clothes). Today off to the four mile beach to "chill", or in fact to sunbathe. Weather seems great - although it's winter. Although sea at the moment too rough to go out to the reef to snorkel or (if I can pass the medical) to do an introductory dive. Next ... read more

Wellwe hav jjust returned from the six day trip around the yasawa islands and it has been really good.... if not a lliittle unexpected. We cruised out llaast tuesdaay and arrived by catamarin at the first islannd where we were transported by a tin bathh type boat to the island, and basically had to get off knee deep in the ssea! The hostel had no hoht water electrivcity or lights in aany of the toilets, and there were creepy crawlies everywheree!!! it was a bit of a shock, buyt amasing never the less. We relaxed on the beach and then haddinner and played bingo. its really interactitve with other people aswell. then travelled to about 5 other islands, not got ttime to ffo into it yet, as we are at the airport. we hae too geett ... read more

This weekend we went on a field trip. The best field trip EVER. We caught the city train at 8 Friday morning to connect with a ferry in Fremantle. It was a fairly cold, misty and turbulent 30 minute ride to Rottnest Island, 12km off the shore of Freo. When we landed we were given crappy, old, 3 speed bikes and these horrible black foam helmets that you get a $100 fine for not wearing. From the pier we biked up the beach a way to a limestone wall with heavy wooden doors and wide steel hinges that were marked by the old colonial stamp. They were cell doors once a long time ago. The whole island used to be a convicts' prison for aboriginal men during the colonization period. Hundreds of men were sent there ... read more
