Note to readers: This blog is best read in a Pam Ayers accent: We feel no need to Bungy, or to Jump out of a Plane, From Canyoning and Climbing Rocks, we really must refrain. Some folks think Rafting's magical, it fills their hearts with glee, But it's not for us Me Hearties, coz it's dangerous you see! But we're hanging out in Queenstown, and what folk here like to do, Is Adventure Sports and scary stuff that makes us need to poo! You can Jetboard, Abseil, Paraglide, but listen, that's not all..... You can also Roll Down Mountainsides inside a plastic ball. Yes we're in the capital of Fear, ...of Danger and of Thrills, But the thought of death brings headaches, then we're reaching for our pills. Y'know, we'd rather walk a mile or eat ... read more

Hey again guys, it doesn't seem like it but we must have been in Queenstown for 5 days now, they've absolutely flown by and find us stuck in one place for the next few weeks at least. I guess i should also say a couple of lines about Queenstown - about 7500 people living around an absurdly picturesque lake with a huge summer and winter transient population. Lots of silly sports involving falling insanely long distances (usually downwards) or getting extremely cold and wet, and all looked over by huge mountains that will soon become engulfed in snow - basically Queenstown is good looking. Consequently as you'll read we're 99.99% sure we're going to stay here through the winter season and try and make some money from Joe Toursist. On arrival here the first order was ... read more

Queenstown was another short stay for us but packed none the less. We arrived in Queenstown after a long but very scenic drive from Christchurch. Along the way we stopped off next to a huge lake surrounded by snow capped mountains which was the first real part of the NZ scenery we had experieneced, it was an amazing site and a taste of things to come! Upon arrival in Queenstown we all agreed it was more suited to our liking. It reminded us alot of Byron Bay as the town featured a main strip full of bars, resteraunts and various shops. Queenstown is a much smaller town compared to Christchurch so it was nice to be able to know exactly where you were and how to get to places! Christchurch on the other hand struck us ... read more

Arrived at Franz Josef a little worse for wear after our cross dressing night, therefore opted for a quiet first night, also a 630am wake up for the glacier walk. Amazing day out, albeit early, we walked to the front of the glacier and climbed 600m up through icey caves and chasms. For us toursits, stairs had actually been carved out of the ice for us!! And even with the crampons we were given, it was pretty scary! For once.... no injuries!! See the photo of Luke, Natalie and I in the icey crevass. After that, we headed off to Haast for the night.... nothing at all to do there except to let Natalie beat us at Monopoly.... NZ style!! Shame she isnt as good with money in real life!! By now we were itching to ... read more

Greetings from a slightly fitter Marc then when i last blogged. In the last few days we have braved the worlds most dynamic glacier, hot footed along the last stretch of the West Coast (bye bye huge beards) and seen Wanaka and now Queenstown. So, firstly the glacier walk. After booking in for an early start we rose at 7pm and sleepily made scrambled eggs (again) and a had a much needed cup of tea before stubbling across the The Guiding Companies building across town. Our first job was to kit out in waterproof tops, bottoms, boots and crampons. After a quick introduction to the guides we started to meet and greet the others who would be on the trip as well. The most lively turned out to be a Venezuelan called Alex who enthused about ... read more

Queenstown is only just down the road from Wanaka (at least it is by New Zealand’s standards). It’s another lovely little town on the banks of a massive lake. We stayed in a place called Bumbles just outside of the town on the waters edge. We ended up staying here for several days as the town and hostel were both so nice. Queenstown is the centre of all things crazy in New Zealand. Whether you want to jump off a bridge or race down the rapids of a river holding nothing more than a small board here is the place to do it. Unfortunately whatever you decide to do its going to make a large dent in your wallet. As everyone comes here to do crazy things the prices have gone through the roof. While I ... read more

Queenstown is the bigger sister of Wanaka, and is not even referred to as a town, but as a resort. It is the extreme sport centre of the world, most probably, and is where you can skydive, bungy jump and do all manner of things that might actually kill you. It is situated in the beautiful Remarkables mountain range, again which turns into a hotbed of skiing and snow sports in the winter. It is also a centre of cool bars where backpackers in their droves hang out and get exceedingly drunk. So I just had to join in. And with a very very large hangover I departed the lovely Queenstown for a four day trip along the very bottom of NZ.... read more

I'm in Queenstown now. Eloise and I decided on the bus here that it would be a good idea to go on this lovely swing thing that sounded like a nice activity. It's called the canyon swing and we bought our trip and paid for it on the spur of the moment. It was only when we got here and saw pictures of a tiny bungy platform perched above a canyon that I started to worry. We drove up there and met the crew who are full of amusing jokes like "don't worry, we've ironed out the problem with the bungy wires" and "don't worry, we haven't killed anyone in at least a month." Having been weighed and had a snail drawn on my hand (still don't know what that means!) I was quickly ushered towards ... read more
