We will be on the south island of NZ for three weeks beginning March 12th......and will spend those three weeks driving around the island. There are several cruises for Milford Sound.....but, we would like to know which one of the cruises....the time of day.....is the best, if that is possible to say. Weather becomes a factor, I know, but assuming it will be beautiful, which is the best to take to see the most?

If I remember correctly on Milford Sound there are blue boats and red boats. I believe the red boats were called Encounter, small luxury boats. Not sure luxury was an accurate description but none the less they were smaller than the blue boats. We were happy to took the red boat. Fewer people and it got closer to the water falls. Heads up-- you will get soaked if you stand on the front of the boat when they get near the waterfall. We expected to get sprayed but it was more like buckets of water. Once we realized what they were going to do we could not move quickly enough. Our camera was ruined. Cameras don't like copious amounts of water.
Predicting the best time of day will be tough. The clouds move in and out but you'll have a great time. Some of the photos with the clouds look mystic. You will love this trip even if the weather is crap!
