After eight flights in just over two months, we're finally in Cairns! It's been exausting, I'm not gonna lie. In Sydney, I met up with Nicole on Bondi. It was awesome! I hadn't seen her since she left for Oz in early February. She will be leaving to come meet us in Cairns on the 8th of May, which is really exciting. The weather is much warmer here, though the sky is gray and the humidity is starting to get to my hair. I've made my way around where we're staying here. I've seen the natural lagoon where we're expected to swim in the winter months (because of the box-jellyfish problems). Our hostel is decent. We're staying at the ''Caravella 149'', which is right on the Ocean. The kitchen isn't nearly as nice as it was ... read more

Before i start telling you what i've been up to just wanna apologise for the lack of piccies again. I'm in Hervey Bay in the only internet lounge i could find and yet again i'm typing on an ancient machine so i will just have to keep you all in suspense till i get home and get round to printing them all!! Anyhoo back to the good stuff. So i left Airlie on Tuesday and hopped aboard a very full bus. The driver warned us that it was gonna be a long day so we all just got settled and prepared ourselves. We started off by introducing ourselves to everyone on the bus as we would be together as a group for a couple of days. The information the driver asked for was name, where we ... read more

hi all, we are currnetly in cooloongatta which is on the gold coast, just south of the crazy surfers paradise. It so beautiful here, the sea is massive and the beaches are full of fine white, soft sand. We arrived yesterday and checked into the hostel which is nice, there is a massive kitchen to cookj in and a pool! Loads of chilling areas, and it is really quite - mix of age groups of people. Decided to go tot he supermarket and try cooking last night, bought some chicken and rice, and when we tried to cook it, we failed - miserably.the plan was to use a bbq but we couldtn find a nice one, so tried to grill them in this tiny toaster lke grill - it took forever, so after trying to eat the ... read more

as you all know we are now in Australia. Sydney was a very nice city with lots to do however we didnt do very much of it because we are not willing ot spend a ton of money. We went to Bondi beach which is a well known beach in Sydney. It was pretty windy and the water wasnt very warm. Our hostel had boogie boards that you could use for free so we went to the beach a couple days even though it wasnt warm. Alot of people were wearing neat looking wetsuits and surfing.... our time will come. We also went to The Opera House. It was nice to see, i got a few pics for all of you at home. beside the opera house there are walking paths with nice trees and plants ... read more

Hey everyone....well, its May. I feel like I have only been here for a month, time goes by sooo fast. I went camping for two nights in the bush with the girls. That was really fun, the kids are great. Then I went camping another night with a group of 15 boys and girls. That was really great, the kids are usually good...out of Anna and I, I am the "strict" one...haha. This experience, being a teacher and having to deal with 15 year old kids has been awesome. I really hated teaching the first week, mainly because I didnt know the kids and was having a hard time learning how to teach 15 year olds when Im only 19. But then after I got to know them, it got easier. Ive realized that you have ... read more

After our whitsundays trip, we booted it down to Surfers Paradise to meet up with Questy and Sarah at a friends birthday party. The party was wicked and everyone made us feel very welcome, so big up to all the Kiwi massive !!!! Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Kroombit May 3rd 2006

So the drive to Kroombit prooved strenuous although we met a cool guy from Liverpool called Dave - talked bout footy, uni life, his friends...really down to earth guy considering the experiences he's had and was probably one of the most genuinely nice people we've met so far! Hope we meet him down in Sydney! At Kroombit we got straight into some food, attacking my vege soup and mush! Good stuff! The atmosphere there was really nice! We learnt how to whip-crack, which tok some time but i can now do it really well but only with my left hand?! weird?! then we had a go on the mechanical bull..i volunteered to go first as no-one else would and we could have just sat around for hours..stayed on for 11 bucks and ended up coming 3rd ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Australia Zoo May 2nd 2006

We thought we would have a day at probably one of the most famous Zoos in the world. Thanks to the 'cor crikey Steve Irwin. I am not a big zoo fan, but I have to admit, that this zoo was a fantastic day. The interaction between the keepers, with the animals, was noticable, and as a result, the animals were very active in their own ways. The size of the place, and animals to view/interact with was enormous. Here are just a few of the animals to view.... read more

So, today we had a really cool day, we had breakfast at a cool little bar next door to our hostel, and had cornflakes and a cup of tea!!! wooohooo such a taste of home! Then we had toast and jam ahhh so nice, cured the sore head after 2 pints last night - lame! We headed to the bus termianl to get our bus pass for traveling, and the man was really helpful and explained everythign to us, and then we went and used the net for a bit to book accommodation. Have sorted it, and are heading off tomorrow to the beach, think we told that in the last entry. Then we headed into Brisbane for a look around, which was nice. Had a toilet stop at the hostel and then went back out ... read more

Hello and welcome to the first instalment of "Jonny in Australia"! It has been a while since I left a blog, mainly because Ive been so busy living the ozzy lifestyle! For starters it felt good getting out of Asia- I'd had enough of noodles and rice and constant attempts at trying to scab 20pence from a taxi driver. But now Ive arrived in Oz, I ask the question why did I bother trying to scimp and save, cus here is bloody expensive! My finances have been hit harder than a melons liver on a night out (yes I heard about Saturday nights escapades)- but it has been worth it....!! We arrived into Cairns at about 4.30am, absolutely knackered having had no sleep on the flight over from Singapore. Feeling confident though we taxied into Cairns ... read more
