14.02.06 Valentines Day We have tried more WWOOF farms, but no luck yet. They are all booked until end of Feb or March. We'll keep trying, we want to get back out of the city. Today we headed into town to get our jabs that we needed boosting! We went to the Travellers Doctor that is mentioned in the Lonely Planet book, we were quoted some crazy prices for our jabs and that we would first have to have a consultation which was also more money. Also we would be unable to claim any of it back on our medicare card, which we had joined for free. Plus they wouldn't be able to see us for a couple of days. So we went away from here a little flat because we didn't want to spend a ... read more

Having said our goodbyes to everyone from our Fraser group, we caught the Greyhound down to Brisbane. This was almost up with Melbourne as my number one Oz city. Very lively with a river running through it past cliff walks and 'Street Beach' a pleasant lagoon. We caught a Citycat ferry from the centre to the western edge of the city near the Uni, and then returned after darkness had fallen to find the cityskyline lit up spectacularly. On our only full day here, we hired bikes for a tour of the city, taking in Kangaroo point with its stark cliff face, the Street beach lagoon, the botannical gardens and a fair stretch of the river. We then had a night on the town with a Helen and Carolyn from our Fraser Island trip. Obviously a ... read more

At an hour unacceptable to most, the Wondering Wanderers arose and underwent final preparations before the taxi arrived to whisk them away to the airport. Ahh... Vanuatu... we couldn't wait! We arrived at the airport uber early, as we had a few tax refunds we wished to lodge and we didn't know how long the queues would be. When we rocked up to the TRS/Customs Office on level 1 at Brisbane Int'l, the office was empty - so much for the crowds we were expecting! Getting our receipts stamped for items we wished to check-in was a breeze so we ended up having a lot of time to kill whilst a) waiting for check-in and then b) waiting for the call to board. We managed to score a luggage trolley with a few magazines on it ... read more

Back on the road. Stuck around Cairns for quite a while (almost 2 weeks in the area), but have finally prised myself away, and flew down to Brisbane just over a week ago, intending to use the city as a base for visiting the nearby by natural features of The Great Sandy National Park, namely the everglades around Noosa and Fraser Island, the worlds largest sand island. As the name implies, there is indeed more sand than you could possibly imagine in one place, Fraser Island itself allegedly containing more than the Sahara Desert. It manages to get everywhere; vehicles, clothes, food, bodily crevaces, nothing is left free of sand. I spent 3 days on Fraser Island, a very beautiful place that i wish i had a few more days to enjoy. Along with 9 others, ... read more

We emailed Chris (who we'd met trekking in Nepal a couple of years ago) to let him know we were coming to Brisbane, and to see if he'd be around to meet us for a few beers. What we hadn't expected was to be picked up from the airport, given Chris's bed, taken on the City Cat along the Brisbane River, entertained by Chris and his housemates, Ben & Monica, and wined and dined by the Kirby family! Over only two days, discussions ranged from "Why is the Thames called the Thames?" to "How much money would you need to be given to chop your own little finger off?" to "Scientology - what's wrong with it?" to Wyn fine-planning the next 10 years of our lives! (By the way, answers to any of the above questions ... read more
