Everyone, I met a lovely guy called Lee on the plane, a solicitor specialising in environmental law who lives in Sydney. We had a good chat, through the start of the flight in particular. Poor guy had just broken up with his Finnish girlfriend, so I felt sorry for him and it reminded me to feel sorry for myself. But he was a nice guy and the photos below are for him, but I figured some of you would enjoy them anyway. Lee, Here they are. Chat to you again after by email. Rach. ... read more

He was the most gorgeous guy I have seen but it wasn't about that. He was sweet. He was gentle. He was fun to talk to, fun to be with. He taught me to play pool and taught me a few words in Norwegian. Even though I was totally not interested to begin with, and even though it so wasn’t meant to be, he managed to sweep me totally, head over heels, way too much. We only spent a few days together but I did “the girly thing”, took it too seriously. I extended my stay here to see him again in Sydney, give this a chance. He texted me sweet messages when I was in New Zealand. Last week I had some bad signs but I chose to ignore them. And then the phone rang ... read more

After having watched a rugby match last week in New Zealand, I decided to go also to a local football match. The local football is nick-named “Aussie Rules” and I believed it is played only here. It’s a strange game that’s somewhere between rugby and normal football (what they call soccer). I must say, I don’t understand how come this and the American football call themselves FOOT-ball when they are mostly playing by hand. At least in the Aussie one, the target is not to “touchdown” but to actually score goals by kicking the ball into the goal which is 4 high poles like rugby, no goal keeper. BTW, there’s also no net and the ball does go to the terraces. At one point, I got the ball! It actually bumped my leg, luckily not the ... read more

This is not a new entry, it is a replacement for one that I accidentally deleted. Muogamarra nature reserve is about 65 Kms north of Sydney and it is open to the public for only six weeks each year, this is because it is a delicate area and too many human visitors can do a lot of damage. You really need some form of transport to get to it, there is a railway station but it’s five Kms away and once you arrive at the gate it’s another 2-3 Kms before you start on the walks. This particular weekend was the first open day of spring so we went along to have a look. Normally there would be masses of wildflowers at this time of the year but we have had a very long drought and ... read more

Well we are home again and I just wanted to finish this blog with some reflections on our trip. It truly was the trip of a lifetime and I think that we learnt more about the world and each other in four months than we have in the last four years! Even though we have attempted to capture some of the wonders that we have seen on these blogs, when we re-read them now they just don't seem to capture the soul of the place. Maybe that's just an analytical observation of our writing style and pics though :) There are a couple of reasons why lots of people would never do the trip that we just did. One of the biggest questions we have got is 'how on earth can you see 16 countries in ... read more

Since this is my second time in Sydney, I am taking it in a very relaxed manner. I am not running from one place to the other, and I enjoy seeing corners that I missed the first time, which was a more “tourist classic” week. I started Thursday morning in a bit unconventional way: I went to visit the Victoria Barracks. It’s an active military base and every Thursday they raise the flag with a military orchestra marching in and playing. It’s open to the public and they didn’t even check my bag at the gate, weird (and of course photography IS allowed). Afterwards you can join a tour guided by one of the army veterans. Our guide was very passionate and full with funny stories about the history of the place and historical military stories ... read more

Today we did the Sydney Harbour Bridge 'Bridge Climb'. This is a pricey, guided tour along the bridge arch to the very top of the bridge. At the top you are standing approx. 425 feet above the harbor below. The entire process takes about 3 1/2 hours. You have to take a breath test to prove that you're not intoxicated, sign your life away on a legal form, gear up in these spiffy spacesuit-like jump suits. You're connected to the guide via earpiece radios, and.... of course, you can't bring your camera! So, we sprung extra $$ for the photos that they took. They came out pretty good and give you a pretty good idea where we were and what we were doing. Today is our last day in Sydney, and we depart tomorrow AM for ... read more

Well, I guess that it is officially my turn to inform you guys of the events in the lives of Sherry and Cory's trip around the world. As much as i've tried to get overlooked it seems that my close friends would like a view from Sherry's point. Here goes...... So far i'm having a great time. I am getting a little irritated with moving around and packing and unpacking every couple of days. Having the one bag helps but i'm slowly finding that i just don't have enough stuff. Anyone who knows me will believe that it is very difficult for me not to have a closet of clothes and shoes to choose from. I don't have the right clothes is how I should put it. I was really well prepared in Fiji but here ... read more

Those are not easy days now in Israel, with the withdrawal from Gaza and the removal of the settlers. It’s on the news here all the time. I don’t watch TV so much, but I read the Israeli websites, something I didn’t do much since I was travelling. Everybody knows what’s going on. Whenever I say I am from Israel I get sympathetic comments. Of course in the Jewish museum I met some religious people that support the settlers and were mad at Sharon, saying “he sent them there”. I told them sometime people make mistakes and they have to correct them. I don’t think I convinced them though. Most people that I meet think we’re doing the right thing, but they sympathise with the agony of the people that need to leave their homes. Sometimes ... read more
