Kites and Cliffs and Charismatics This weekend was the ‘Festival of the Winds’ down at the beach. In our minds we were envisioning the sky completely covered in kites. Which naturally led me to imagine hundreds of tangled kite strings and grumpy kite enthusiasts. In reality, it was a very orderly set up. There was a blocked off section of the beach where the big guns of kiting were allowed to do their thing. These were the huge life size dragons and car sized pinwheels that were really more balloon-like in that they just hovered near the ground. The other people in the official section were the high-flyers. These kites got way, way, way up there. There was even a commentator. As in, “there’s Julie with her ruby pinwheel spinning just above the sand with a ... read more

Everyone had all kinds of things going on Sunday! Lynds woke up early and ran a six mile race over the harbour bridge to the opera house. She was back from Sydney by the time we were all waking up haha! The big news of the day is that our apartment of 3 is now going to be an apartment of 5. Julia and Elizabeth are going to move in with us! We are soooo excited! I think we’re all missing college a bit and are making every effort to relive our dorm experiences haha! We don’t know when exactly b/c they signed a month lease in this 9-bedroom house with 15 other people, but they’re going to try and get out of it! Not quite the best situation! Only took ‘em one night to figure ... read more

MN and I woke up on Saturday with one thing on our minds……you guessed it, Four Olives Deli!!! We had a most wonderful seat this time facing the street with the windows open on a beautiful spring morning! My hot chocolate and MN’s cappuccino were yet again greatly presented and fantastic tasting! We decided to split the same thing from last weekend, the Italian Eggs Scramble that comes with sausage, prosciutto, their homemade bread and jam YUMMY!!! I crave it again just thinking about it!! We fueled up and went back to the apartment trying to make sure everything was packed. Our landlord Michael came by to help us move our stuff to our ‘real’ apartment! Haha, He about fell on the floor when he saw how much stuff we had….he literally could not believe it! ... read more

So, since Janice and I ended not being able to go skiing because of logistics/money/Budget and AutoEurope, (grr), we needed an adventure. I scoured the web, and found out about a horseback riding place about an hour north of sydney. I got Andrew and Janice interested, so we were going to ride the train up, and then figure out transportation around. We borrowed a tent and some sleeping bags and were fully intent on having a fire and camping out. The day of our departure, last Friday, I found a cheap car rental, which equaled or was cheaper than the amount we would have had to pay on non-car transport. So we got on the train, and an hour later, we had our car from Howard the wry, "I've seen this all before" car rental man. ... read more

Let the world know! Oh Sydney, oh Sydney my love! How I miss your people that became apart of me (Mel, Djamel, Chris, Olivia, Trish, Agnes, Emad, Edgar, Ben... the list is long). I miss your sunshining smile - although you have a big hole in the atmosphere of your Ozon mouth. I miss your beautiful beaches - which were the playground where we spent most of our time. I miss your spectacular coastline - alongside which I used to run. I long for your great culinary expertise (thanks to the influence of your exotic neighbours and citizens). I miss your nightlife (King´s Cross, Oxford St. and Goodbar in specific). I miss the heat you radiate all year (Winter in Sydney equals normal Swedish Summer!) and heck I even miss sitting in your slow public transportation ... read more

Oh, hello there. Didn't see you come in. Today I got sunburnt on my face. Stupid me. I walked from Women's to Darling Harbour, then around Darling Harbour, then up to some random suburbs, then realized I was lost and in a shady part of town and hark, I happened upon Darling Harbour again. I love Darling Harbour..it's so darling.. ha ha.. ha.. It's got parks, the aquarium, the naval museum, the chinese garden of friendship, eateries and drinkeries, etc. After I happened upon it again, I decided to eat my sandwich and read my book that I had purchased at the aboriginal music show I went to. It was free, which is great, and also interesting and informative. The guy played didjeridoos, which actually is irish gaelic for black guy playing a long whistle like ... read more
