I am at the airport and about to head to New Zealand so just a quick ping. I am still alive and well. My brother isn't doing quite so well though as he got hit by a drunk driver on my motorcycle yeasterday. I hear he broke his hand in 2 places but other wise I assume he is OK. Please pray for Peter's recovery. I am glad to be able to see the places I have and will, but home is calling me too, especially with what just happened with my bro. In Sydney I had a great place to stay thanks to a hook up from the wedding in Germany. It was a great home overlooking Bronte Beach in Sydney. I saw all the must sees there, which is about all I could do ... read more

Gday travel pommes! Well after over 10 years of thinking and talking about it we're eventually here - the land of beach, surf and sexy sand! The trip from Aukland was but an eventful one for poor young Robert! Firstly i got up at the crack of dawn - approx 3 am as Rob couldnt get on my lesurely 9am flight oh no. Well dropped him off in good time to then drive to the so called Ace Rentals drop off point which is a good 20 min hike in pouring down rain with all belongings on toe. Arrived at the airport to see a bewildered Rob sat down looking mightily unhappy - the 6am flight had been cancelled, the first of many mishaps. After some bartering Rob managed to purswade the staff that 5pm the same ... read more

The Buster Way Of Doing Things You know, friends, being a Buster isn't all Consular parties, exotic women, running seminars and bowel movements al fresco. There's a lot of hard work too! So when the Busters finally gets a chance to relax there's nothing they like more than to have a swim and grab a few ZZZZs on some tropical beach. But then it's straight back to the grind stone! Just look at that photo of Frank and Joe putting in the spade work as they organise their latest adventure. And for comparison value, check out the photo of Frank and Joe contemplating Joe's infamous blue sluggos at the open air pool in Moscow. I know it looks like these two images were taken days apart but there's actually a gulf of 20 years separating these ... read more

Once again, it’s been ages since we’ve typed up an entry. We arrived in Australia on 29th July, a cold Friday morning. Coming out of Sydney airport was a shock to the system, no sunshine, wintertime in fact. We spent the first 2 weeks living in a hostel in the centre of town, nice place but we were glad to be leaving after 2 weeks. Sleeping in a 6 person dorm not knowing who you were going to wake up with in your room the next morning became a bit cumbersome. We met some nice people there though who we’ve been out with a few times since leaving the hostel. We did the usual sights around town, first stop Sydney Harbour and the Opera House… Sampled some of the many restaurants and bars scattered around the ... read more

Just an update to let you know what we got up to in Oz. I'm fully aware that it was about 2 and a half months ago, thank you - those of you already poised at the keyboard to point this out may save your wit and stating the obvious for those people who really need it - but we've had a few, shall we say 'difficulties' - to save many hideous recounts - getting photos onto the site. Anyway, Rach and Rach flew out of ChCh on the 15th Sept on the next leg of our journey - having been in one place for so long it was a bit weird to be on the move - a bit like leaving home all over again. Jen stayed in NZ for the week and did some ... read more

Birthday, Baby and Bono: Three Quick “shout-outs” Ok, first, today is Les’ birthday, and since he probably won’t get home in time to have a party with Abby and me tonight, we made this poster to bring the party to him at work. Happy birthday!!! Secondly, to my Boston-based mom’s group, here’s an update on the “No Nappy” rule at the beach and beach-baby pool. I still stand by the fact that a naked baby is easier to deal with from a sticky-sand-standpoint, but it’s a little hard to try and make friends with other moms when your child puts the p-o-o in pool. Yep, good times. ‘Member the movie ‘Hope Floats’? Well guess what else floats . . . . Finally, this week U2 is in concert (the fall tour) in NYC. I had a ... read more

We've now added a new country, let alone a new continent, to our 'been there' list: Australia. We arrived early on Thursday, 09/29. We've been in and around Sydney since, and we're really enjoying ourselves. First off, the weather has been terrific. The sun has been shining daily and the temps have kept up around 30 degrees C/+- 80 degrees F. Awesome. We've been downtown (Opera House) and out to the beachfront-both North(Manly) and South(Bondi). Sydney is a totally world-class city. Great transportation (buses and trains) and great ammenities everywhere. Fairly similar to big cities in the States, so its not to exotic. But, really safe. We began our stay in the Kings Cross 'hood, where all the blokes in the city hang out, along with all of the intl. backpackers. Kind of seedy, with ... read more

The Kangy Angy Indeed! This past weekend was Labour Day here in New South Wales. Not anywhere else. Not, for example in Queensland. It’d be as if Pennsylvania had a big holiday but not New Jersey. At any rate, it worked to our benefit since we live in the state with the holiday and so we went off to Hunter Valley for two days. Hunter Valley is a big wine area about 2 hours north of Sydney. It’s a popular getaway place full of little resorts and vineyard B&Bs. We were able to grab a last-minute deal over the internet and found ourselves at the four star Tallawanta Lodge. Les and I love wine, but I don’t know much about it. Les certainly knows more than I do. I’m also limited by the fact that no ... read more

Arriving in Australia I arrived in Sydney to warm sunshine and bright bright blue skies which disappeared after 20 mins as the sun set, but I was picked up from the airport by my mate Louisa and her boyfriend Dom and whisked off to a gorgeous little restauraunt for a 3 course dinner and lots of white wine, a welcome to Oz treat for me which was indeed very welcome after the past few weeks of nothing more flash than beans on toast or a cheese sandwhich. Lou and Dom and a few others are living out in Bronte not far from Bondi, its a quiet little surburb with a beautiful little bay and I spent most of my first weekend just hanging out at the flat on Yanko Ave or at the beach with them, ... read more
