Flew to Sydney to meet the Pixie who arrives today!!! Nick gave me a lift to the airport which was v. helpful. Flight was fine, then just hung around the airport waiting for Lucy to arrive in the evening. She looked absolutely fantastic when she got off the plane! I was thinking she'd arrive bleary-eyed and knackered, but she waltzed off looking radiant with make-up all fixed and hair all sleek, talking to some hunky guy .. ! I was like "oooh, you've brought me a present!" but he soon ran off as of course i looked pants as per usual even though my flight had only been an hour. We caught a cab into Sydney and the hostel (BIG on Elizabeth St.). Sydney seems really clean and nice, the centre is quite compact so it's ... read more

Well we made it... The plan trip went well, there was a lot of turbulance, and we flew over the typhoon that hit china...not cool. Never got any photos from the plane, they wouldn't let us. Joanne met us at the airport, very excited. She rented us all a house in "Manly Beach". #6 Artillary Rd if anyone wants to Mapquest it, on the North Head. It has water 5mins either way. The 1st day, a chilly 14C, Jo took us for lunch at her favorite spot along the beach...OCEAN...people were swimming/surfing, saw dolphins playing, 4 hours and a bottle of wine later, we went for a walk to Shelley Beach and then to the shops...asleep by 6pm... Yesterday we decided to continue on our discovery of the Western suburbs of Sydney. We have discovered that the best way to do this is on bicycle. Surprizingly enough, despite the prodomince of the private motor car in Sydney's sprawling Western suburbs, the area is well served by various bike tracks. We set off from Granville, and for the first kilometre or so, it seemed like the idea to take the bike path was a bad one. The 'track' for the first few hundred metres was the footpath running alongside the polluted and gray Parramatta road. The smell of exhaust fumes spewing out from the traffic was almost too much for my lungs. Addditionally, seemingly every few metres we would have to stop ast traffic lights to cross the road. However, once we passed the entrance ... read more

Actually I am not on the road at all. I live in Parramatta, Sydney. So why on earth am I writing atravel journal you may ask. I have never used a thing like this before in my life, therefore I was thinking it would be better to learn how to use it BEFORE I embark on my trip. It is no point getting halfway accross the world, then discovering that I can not use the online journal.... So for the record, my name is Mel and as I have mentioned above I live in Parramatta. Actucally, I live in Granville, but it is close enough to Parramatta. We (being myself and boyfriend Gavin) are currently in the planning stages of our trip. We are heading to India in Feb. We both work full-time, so it is ... read more
