Hola!! Our next stop was Nimbin for the afternoon, on our way up to Surfers Paradise! Well.... what to say about Nimbin... its a crazy crazy little colourful hippie town where everyone has done a little bit too much smoking (and we're not talking about cigarettes here!) so its not just the place that is interesting... the people seemed very special too hehe!! We just wandered around, went to the candle-making factory which was really cool, went to the insane musuem (I've never seen anything like it.... the most random/made up crazy stuff!) and had lunch! It was a very fun little town with a cool vibe but I'm not sure I would want to live there! ;o) xxxxxxxxxx... read more

Today started off with something I haven't done for over twenty three years...waiting for a School Bus!!! I had to catch it in order to accomplish my master plan of connecting with the 9am bus to Byron Bay which I successfully made aided by my very own young tour guide Andrew...compete with skateboard!! Once I arrived, I invaded the Tourist Information Office (that's if one person can invade somewhere that is...mind you, streakers can... technically) in order to purchase a ticket to Nimbin...an old hippie town in the hills. I felt very under-packed on the coach, all I had was my camera...we were sightseeing after all, so how worried was I when I saw suitcases, guitars and surf boards being loaded up by one very stressed confused looking driver!! Once the luggage...and the nine fellow passengers ... read more

A brief detour from our coastal drive into the hinterland and Nightcap national park. We stayed in Nimbin, the site of the famed Aquarius festival that apparently launched the Australian hippie culture when it took place in 1973 - apparently some of those that came for the festival never left and thus Nimbin developed - famous for its new age therapies, music and crafts among other things! It really is like taking a step back in time...proper hippie apart from all the camper vans and gawping tourists like us! We visited the living museum where there's a Kombi van stuck in the front wall - apparently left there after someone drove it through the front wall??? We spent the rest of the day people watching as we weren't able to do any of our planned walking ... read more

Yesterday I decided to take a day trip to Nimbin, about an hour and a half outside Byron Bay. There are lots of different tour buses to choose from though Grasshoppers (pun intended I think) included a BBQ lunch. The guide Mick was good, lots of random trivia and funny stories from previous tours. Everyone on the bus got along really well, we were all chatting and laughing by the time we got to Nimbin. Nimbin prides itself on being the little hippie town in the hills of Australia, the Amsterdam of Australia if you will, though marijuana is still illegal. I walked down to the museum to check out the murals, modern art and paraphernalia. The museum was a bit more jarring than a conventional museum yet beautiful in its own way. After that I ... read more

As far as I’m concerned probably nothing will compare to Noosa at this point. I had such a good time that it’ll be impossible to duplicate. But I pull myself together the next morning, fixed my foot (which I somehow managed to slaughter the night before), have breakfast with Phillip and meet Nathan just before check-out and we walk down together to the bus stop. Once again the YHA in Brisbane is fully booked out, so I booked the Banana Benders since I at least knew where it was. You would not believe it if you saw it with your own eyes, but the exact same group of guys are sitting around the hostel still not doing anything, and this is 10 days later! The guy at the desk even found them a job while we ... read more

Day 51 continued.. After saying our goodbyes to everyone at the backpackers inn we set off to the little hippy village of Nimbin in the hinterlands. The bus took two hours, stopping at a great lookout point and giving us local knowledge of Nimbim and nearby Lismore. We see Mt Warning and lots of macademia trees. The driver gives us a lift to our YHA at the rox. It is definately off the beaten track and in the bush. Gorgeous hippy YHA we have our own room its all done in purple and flowers with french doors out to what could be our own big comfy sofa outside. They have a pool, and hammocks and a cool bar area with a pool table and lights up with fairy lights at night. We go into the town ... read more

Wednesday was a very unique day, as we hopped on a bus and headed to visit the town of Nimbin. The pictures probably give a better explanation than i ever could, but its basically just a hippie town where you can't walk ten metres down the street without smelling pot/ being offered pot/ being offered "special" cookies. Some of the signs (and people for that matter) provided us with much amusement- my favourite being "bringabong" instead of "billabong". The drug use there is so blatant that the police kind of leave everyone alone and turn a blind eye to people lighting up in the middle of the street. Apparently they even have an anual joint rolling fesival, and on mardi-gras parade through the streets with giant joint floats and things... i can easily say it was ... read more

Ostatni tydzien w Austarli, szybko ten czas tu zlecial. Bylismy tez w Zoo, bardziej takim interaktywnym, No i karmilam slonia. Fajnie uczucie jak traba zabieral owoca z mojej reki. Trzymajcie sie cieplo! Agata i Rob... read more
