Barcelona --» Madrid --» Santiago de Compostale We didn't plan on spending the night in Barcelona, however, we couldn't get a night train to Madrid that day. We plan on going to Barcelona with Erin and Rachel (cousin and friend from home) in May, so we thought we'd save it for when they arrive! However, when you are 'forced' to stay in Barcelona, only good things can come from it. We arrived around dinner time and met an Aussie on our train. He showed us the hostel he was staying at, because it was a good price. We pretty much followed him around for an hour trying to find it. Once we arrived, we soon found out that the hostel was in a great location and full of high-energy people. We didn't want to drink that ... read more

We arrived into Marseille and decided to spend two nights. The first night we were able to couch surfer with a french couple. They were amazing to us! We arrived pretty late and were welcomed into their home with open arms. The next morning we woke and walked around the river and the old part of the city. It had such a great feel to it. So many people were out walking by the water, sipping coffee at the cafes and viewing the sights. We met up with the couch surfers around noon, along with another couch surfer that had stayed with them a few years back. She was also a Canadian, from Quebec. They all took us out to a beautiful area that many don't get a chance to see. Apparently, a lot of locals ... read more

We were able to explore the City for a day, however we ended up spending most of our time laying on the beach in one of the nicest days we've seen for a while! We first went to the market to pick up cheese and olives and some bread, then eating to the beach for a picnic and a nap. We also went to see an amazing old cemetery and castle. Jesse finally repaid us for cooking for him for two nights and made us a delicious dinner before we hoped on another train heading to Marseilles! Note: Once again, we only have these few pics, more to come! ... read more

We then headed to the south of France, Nice and on the first day made a day trip to Monaco. We never actually met our couch surfing in Nice, we were welcomed by another couch surfer from the States who had been given the keys to look after the place for a few days. Jesse was super cool, and we had a tun of fun cooking and explore both Monaco and Nice together. We were able to take a quick train to Monaco in the morning of the first day, and set off to explore the city. We were forced to do this by foot because everyone was on strike that day lol... but we had a beautiful walk by the waterfront gazing at all the ridiculously expensive yachts and cars. We hen made our way ... read more

We made it to Genoa later at night, and were lucky to have our couch surfing host pick us up and take us out for incredible pasta. Seriously it was amazing with fresh noodles and to die for sauce, once again we were in heaven. Italy was definitely a lot about eating for us haha but WOW, i don't know how anyone manages to be thin in this country! After wards he took us to see a beautiful older part of town which used to be a little fishing village. It was very beautiful at night. We were up early and out walking around the city the next morning, we went to a bell tower and saw an amazing panoramic of the city. We were also able to go see the House that Christoper Columbus lived ... read more

Napoli was one of our most amazing experiences, through our couch surfer we had the opportunity to really get immersed in the Italian culture in so many ways! When we first arrived we found ourselves wandering the town asking anyone and everyone directions to our couch surfer, Luca's house. We walked literally at least 4 times up and down each street surrounding his house haha. But eventually we made it at about 6pm. He immediately invited us out for a night on the town with him and his friends which turned out to be an amazing time, we were literally the only foreigners in the bar, so much fun! Oh not to mention, before going out he took us to a pizzeria near his house for... no jokes.. THE BEST PIZZA EVER!! We can't even describe ... read more

We didn't have much time on our last day but we thought we might as well see what we can! We packed up our bags and headed to see the amazing Spanish Steps! We were waiting for a train later that day so we took Cheeky Monkey and Daisy the Cow (Our bags... yes.. they have names) with us! You would be very proud, we even walked up the steps with them! So amazing! We chilled around a fountain at the bottom of the stairs for a while, thinking about how sad it was to leave Rome but there was just too much to see and very little time. Most people feel this way when they visit Rome because you could spend countless weeks exploring the city. We then found a nearby park to relax at ... read more

On the second day we headed to the VATICAN CITY.. pardon? VAAATTIICANN City!! Ah!! Vatican City is the smallest sovereign nation in the world. It comprises of just 1 sq km but houses the most important catholic collection in the world. They even have their own postal service, currency, newspaper, radio station and even an army of Swiss Guards to watch over the Pope's personal safety. Our first stop was the Vatican Museum. It contains a crazy beautiful collection of art and treasures collected by the Popes. We walked around this massive museum looking at early catholic art, sculptures and paintings. We got to see beautiful gardens and fountains as well! We even got to see a full intact mummy! A MUMMY! Right in front of us. After viewing numerous, amazing museums, we headed towards the ... read more

Emily + Jennie ---» ROME! We had arrived and were soooo excited to explore every little bit of Rome! Once again, we couldn't find a couch surfer for Rome, so we decided this time to stick with a hostel. We arrived, found a nice little hostel close to town and settled in quickly. Threw our bags on our beds, got information about how to visit Rome in just a few days, and ventured off on our own! We were shaking with excitement and we could already tell this would be up there on our list of favourites, or maybe most shocking. We had 2 nights at this hostel and wanted to get the most out of it that we possibly could. After chucking down our massive bags into our hostel, we took a tram right into ... read more
