Hello everybody!! OK... one very last blog and then you'll have to find something else to do with your lives other than read my blogs... hehe just joking, I think it's lovely that so many of you have been interested in following my travels and reading through my lengthy blogs all this time! :o) Ive been home nearly a week now and Im still not sure that it has actually sunk in that I'm home for good! It's so lovely to be home and feels like I've never been away, everything and everyone has pretty much stayed exactly the same and I dont really feel that different either, although i do know i have changed quite a lot! I think maybe I haven't quite realised that travelling is over, I think at the moment the novelty ... read more

Hello!! Well.... I was planning on writing a really long blog (what a surprise!) about the past 10 and a half months - the highs/lows etc. but its nearly midnight and I have to be up in 5 hours and I'm just too tired!! So I think I'm going to postpone it until I get home! :o) But basically.... I have had an amazing time travelling and I know I've been really really lucky to have been able to come away, see everything I've seen, done everything I have and to have made some amazing friends and still be going home in one piece (especially after a few close calls... the Worlds Most Dangerous Road in Bolivia, the parachute not opening sky diving in NZ etc.!)! It still hasn't sunk in that I really am finally ... read more

Heyho!! The last few days in Bangkok have been quite chilled.... just did a bit of shopping (at the HUGE weekend market.... i gave up after 3 hours because it was too hot, but I probably didnt even see a tenth of it!!) sightseeing - went to the palace, the reclining Buddha and a few temples! I have to admit that I'm quite fed up of sightseeing now so I had to really motivate myself to go instead of just staying by the pool in hostel but I'm really glad I went... the palace really was stunning!! I went first thing in the morning so it wouldn't be too unbearably hot but it still really was hard work - it felt about 200 degrees! On the way to the temple, lots of people told me it ... read more

Hello!! I could either get the bus back to Bangkok from Phuket or Krabi so I decided to get the boat to Krabi as I'd already been to Phuket and had heard Krabi is really nice!! The hostel I wanted to stay in was full so ended up on my own in a guesthouse but luckily I met 2 English girls on the boat to the beach the next day and spend the day with them which was nice! The beach was really beautiful and surrounded by stunning limestone cliffs, it was so lovely I wished I could have stayed a bit longer but I could only stay 3 hours before heading back to Krabi town to get the night bus to Bangkok! The bus to Bangkok was an absolute nightmare but am running out of ... read more

Hola!! I really really loved Koh Phi Phi... it is such a beautiful island!!! The only thing I didn't like so much was the fact that it was really touristy so really expensive! :o( I stupidly ended up paying way too much for a room by giving into to the guys selling accommodation to everyone getting off the boat! I later walked past the only hostel on the island and saw that a room was a third of the price! Whoops! :o( That evening I walked up to the view point for the sunset... which was such a mission especially in the heat but definitely worth it - so beautiful! I met a group of English guys up there so started chatting to them and it turns out one of them is on my flight home ... read more

Hello!! Going to whiz though these last blogs because have a million things left to do before my flight first thing tomorrow morning! Grace and I got the overnight bus down to Bangkok and watched Pretty Woman on her laptop which was really cool... until the DVD broke half way through (maybe that's why it only cost $1!!)! We arrived in Bangkok at about 6am so I decided to get a bus straight down South to the islands! I was planning on spending the day in Bangkok and then getting the overnight bus down there, but as we got there earlier than I thought I thought I might as well get a move on as I didn't have much time and didn't really want to be hanging around in Bangkok all day either! So I got ... read more

April 12th 2009

Hello again!! I came to Pai 2 days ago with Grace (the NZ girl I met in Chiang Mai) and her Canadian friend Rich and despite only having been her 2 days (and we are leaving in a few hours!) we absolutely love it here! It's a really cute little town in the countryside and everyone is really friendly! The Thai New Year is approaching with is always celebrated with a water festival so we have spent most of the time running around trying to escape all the children (and adults and tourists actually!) who have huge water pistols, or worse still.... big buckets which leave you absolutely soaked! Rich bought a water pistol and an Ozzie guy we have been hanging around with bought a bucket, Grace and I were going to buy really cool ... read more

April 12th 2009

Hello!! I spent about 6 days in Changmai and really liked it, especially after I changed hostels! I spent the first few nights in a really horrible hostel where they were no other travellers because the popular hostel was constantly full! I didn't really do much those first few days apart from wander around, read, catch up with emails and went to the dentist! I was a bit homesick and lonely so even ended up going into bars where they were showing English football with English commentary just so I felt more at home! :o) Luckily though on my third day in Changmai I managed to get into the hostel and finally ended my boring spell of having no friends! :o) That day I did a cooking course which I had signed up to a few ... read more

April 3rd 2009

Hello!! We finally arrived in Pakse after a very bumpy and distressing ride from Khong Island (we ran over a dog.... Michi wouldn't tell me what we had run over for about half an hour because he knew I would be upset - he was right - but it was a dog! poor thing!) and checked into a not-so-great hostel and then went out for lunch! After lunch we saw that there were direct buses to Bangkok (apart from a bus-change after the border) at 3pm each day and made a spur of the moment decision to not stay in Pakse that night (as there was really nothing to do there) but to rent a moped that afternoon and drive to the Bolaven Plateau, stay the night somewhere up there and drive back the next day, ... read more

April 3rd 2009

Hello!! After finally making it to the Laos border, we headed for Khong Island (one of the 4000 islands in the South of Laos) via bus and boat, arriving mid-afternoon to find that there was currently no electricity on the island so our room was almost unbearable in the heat without a fan or air conditioning! Unfortunately, Michi was ill that day/night so we didn't really do much, although the next day we decided we would give riding a moped ourselves a go! We spent most of the morning and afternoon driving around the island, which was really fun, and eventually I felt brave enough to try too..... occassionally I forgot where the brakes where but apart from that it was fine and really really really fun! :o) That afternoon we were punished for neglecting our ... read more
