Well, tonight I'm packing for Florida. I'm off to visit my family, yay! It's been a long time since I've hopped a plane and gone down there, and I'm looking forward to being in heat and sunshine. And the intense air conditioning. It's been a busy couple of days that have left me literally sick and tired. I had an upper GI series of x-rays done, and I didn't take so well to all the barium I had to swallow. So the past two days have been spent at home with me grumpy and moaning and pale as a sheet. Don't think I want to have that done again. I'm feeling ok today, but didn't go to belly dancing lessons. I needed one more day to relax and recover. But hey, that means all the laundry's ... read more

We got home last night after battling all the traffic coming back into DC. I spent some time uploading pictures and my blogs, and basically just chilling out, mostly because I knew today would be packed. But then I couldn't get to sleep! I was absolutely exhausted and could not nod off. So my plans for today have been kind of scrapped because I'm just so wiped out. I did manage to get up and hit the gym today. I need to do that every morning, and Jerry suggested I take my headphones down and walk on the treadmill during Rachael Ray. So I did! Easy as pie! I just ran to pick Ginger up from boarding, and I've got to say she's lost her darn mind. She screamed all the way home and tried to ... read more

In about an hour and a half, my husband is going to walk in the door, and a whirlwind of activity will ensue. Bags will be grabbed, trash will have to go out, the cat will have to be shoved into her carrier, and off we will go! Off for a weekend of fun in the sun in North Carolina. The problem is, I'm still in my jammies and half packed. I have, at least, picked out what I'm going to wear. But there's laundry that needs to be put away, dishes to be done, a shower to be taken, stuff to pick up, and of course, a suitcase that needs to be completely packed. My motivation has been dead since yesterday. That's when Ginger and I laid about all day watching episodes of Alias on ... read more

Well, today is Tuesday, May 23, 2007. Vision Quest 2007 was officially scheduled to begin this past Sunday. Unfortunately, on the eve of our embarcation, as we were returning from the spiritual oasis of Walmart no less, our beloved 1999 Hyundai Elantra..."Car"...decided she would no longer exceed 40 mph without stalling. The auto mechanic called it a failed clutch, but given Car's past refusal to leave the DC metropolitan area (various failed trips due to "clutch problems") we believe that Car simply doesn't want to leave DC and will make every attempt to keep us from doing so as well; nevermind that we've taken her in twice in the past month and received the "A...OK" from the repair shop. Since Car isn't scheduled to be repaired until late Wednesday at the earliest, we decided to ... read more

Long blog warning! After a busy day of running yesterday, I decided it was time to drive home. I had finally accomplished everything I needed to so I could go, and was eager to get here. So I packed up Ginger and headed for DC. First of all, Ginger tried to commit kitty suicide. We're driving down 96 and she decides to explore the car. She pushed the back window button and it rolled down, and here's the 7 pound cat peeking out the wide open window! Didn't know she hated moving that much. The drive was long, and all of Pennsylvania seemed to be under construction. It is summer, I should have expected it, but the second I crossed the Maryland state line, the roads were perfect and there wasn't even shoulder work anywhere. Ginger ... read more

I'm finally concluding my blog, a week and a half later after my return. It has been a tough adjustment. I'm back to schedules, deadlines, appointments, responsibilities. I am reminded of just how lucky I am to have the friends I do, and two jobs I enjoy very much. I am however, looking forward to my next trip. Tibet, Nepal, India, Burma, Petra, Egypt, South America are all possible destinations. I will work it so that I have more time off next year. Two weeks just wasn't enough. There are certain paths in life that we all choose, that we must choose as individuals. Personally, it seems like many of these paths are laid out for us in cookie cutter fashion, especially in the States; house, white picket fence, 2 cars, 2.5 children, soccer moms, ... read more

Semper Fidelis ‘Always faithful’ - United States Marine Corps motto Being committed to a marathon seems to be a straightforward business of running a 26.2 miles course. At least this is one naïve assumption I’ve had, signing up for the 2006 Marine Corps Marathon in early spring. And of course, as it turned out, the marathon business is slightly more complicated than I have originally thought, as I learned from my training program in the past 20+ weeks. This is a word of wisdom from a marathoner. The hardest part of embracing the challenge is to get to the starting line, assuming that during the life of training, no unexpected things happen such as physical injuries, which is unfortunately a prevalent result for most first time trainees. Vigorous exercise schedule to which I adhere consists of ... read more

This has got to be one of the most amazing things I've ever done! One behalf of California and North Carolina I presented a wreath at the Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknow Soldier. It was so tear jerking... I'm a huge supporter of our boys and girls fighting for us. After all the talks that were heald in the coliseum everyone headed around back to get ready for the ceremony. On the way to the back I passed a few soldiers.... God they were so tall. I felt really small, not just because of their height, but just because they were so great. When we walked out in front of that audience and approached the second soldier you feel this great deal of pride... it's hard to explane. But the whole thing ... read more
