It's been a few days since the last entry dated Monday, 22 June. The majority of the time since then has been in the car driving. I left at 7:30AM from Laredo, TX and arrived in Wichita, KS around 7PM driving a bit over 760 miles. The morning was brutal. I went to bed late the night before and woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep. As I was driving through Texas that morning I regretted the decision to just get up and make productive use of the time by getting an early start on the road. Hard to keep awake. Assuming more risk behind the wheel than I had felt comfortable with that morning until I got my second wind in the early afternoon. Decided to get the oil changed, tires rotated and ... read more

Today was another one of the big driving days but didn't feel that bad because of the several stops along the way. We left the first A-town, Atlanta, early in the morning and drove through Greenville, South Carolina, where we met up with Megan's uncle who is a chiropractor there. We looked around his office and then left to continue up I-85. The next stop was in Durham where we met up with her friend who goes to Duke. We ate pizza and talked for a long time but then realized we really needed to leave in order to make it up to A-town part deux on time. We continued up I-85 and got caught in a torrential downpour accompanied by fog in Virginia. But we made it through and then got back on a highly ... read more

Go here to see ALL the pictures: http://picasaweb.google.com/rconnelly22 Well, it took about 2 weeks, but as I promised, I wanted to write a conclusion to my second amazing trip overseas. Europe was STILL under construction, and the sites STILL blew my mind. While I know I'm lucky to have opportunity to travel overseas, I'm in some ways proud of myself for "completing the continent" and doing what it took to travel again. A lot of times people talk about it, and just never follow through, and I'm proud that I have talked the talk, and walked the walk - TWICE, and because of it, I'm truly a better person. Like I said throughout, this trip was very different from my last trip over there. Summer vs. Winter. Mike vs. Heather. Eastern Europe vs. Western Europe. Comparably ... read more

Hey all - We are tying up all our loose ends and getting ready to go. The dogs, plants, cars (with emergency breaks), parking spots, credit cards, passports, visas, backpacks, rentals, hotel rooms, salsa event plans, tango classes, visits with a friend, and camera bags are all in order. We even went to La Tasca the other night to practice our Spanish and get our taste buds prepared. (I should warn you that you may need to use www.wordreference.com to translate parts of the posts that I write.) We hope to have some adventures, and hope that you enjoy reading about them! Hopefully my camera makes it out alive this time so that I can post some photos. Tons of thanks to my in-laws for taking care of Lily and Pedro. We know that they are ... read more

A sunny early start in Philli. Weather very hot as we queued with our giude to get tickets to Constitution Hall. Was worth waiting for as this is where the declaration of independance was made. Then on to see the Liberty bell - its cracked you know. Our time was all to soon over and it was back on the bus bound for Washington. Washington was nothing how I expected and I did not believe that the pentegon was so close to the White house (only a couple of miles away. In the evening we wnet out to dinner with the group followed by a tour of the city by night. A quick nights sleep then back on the coach. First stop Arlington cemetery to watch the changing of the guard at the tomb of the ... read more

I'm feeling more like I love Africa now that I'm home than I did when I was there. I miss it. I miss the people and the lovely spirit of togetherness. I miss the management style of "family spirit" that I witnessed at TASO. I think my mind was clouded by my longing for home - I really did have a good time. I learned a lot and now I am eager to go back.... Just not for 4 months.... read more

Wednesday 28th May - Thursday 29th May We took the 9:05am flight to Washington DC which required an early start and another trip on Chicago’s Public Transport system. The flight to Washington was pretty easy with the exception of the two brats who were seated behind us. We took public transport to our motel which was pretty easy. The only issue was how far it was from the Metro Station (we were to find when we were leaving DC that there was a free shuttle ). The place was nice been a suite and having a separate kitchen. It also had a laundry so we could do some washing . After a couple of hours we headed off to explore the area. We were actually staying in Arlington not DC which is across the river (one ... read more

Since I've left and returned, something in me has changed, but I can't quite determine what. There's this fire in me to make my mark on the world and experience all that life has to offer. And now more than ever do I realize that the good comes with the bad...the sweet isn't so sweet without the sour. As I was experiencing Brussels and expanding my educational horizon, my 94-year-old grandfather passed away in his sleep on Monday evening. I'm still fighting (mostly with myself) the frustration I feel since my family didn't tell me until yesterday evening once I was back home. I'm frustrated that last weekend when I was boarding the plane to Belgium, my entire family was at Grandpa's side to spend time with him and say their goodbyes. However, he was obstinate ... read more

Hello World! This being my first blog entry, I haven't much to say, except that I am leaving for Christmas break in Sweden with my family in only one week and 2 days! Before this time, I have to turn in all the right forms for my practicum, for graduation, and for other school-related things, finish one 20-page paper, finish one group paper, finish one report for work, go to one long meeting over the next day and a half, write meeting minutes for that meeting, and finish a report for my department at school. Not to mention the fact that I need to buy shoes, an adaptor, pants, Christmas presents, a digital recorder (maybe), and probably lots more. And I need to try out my malaria meds to make sure they don't make me crazy. ... read more
