The last day and it is raining. Got train and managed to get seats but all the marathon runners were going home so packed. into New York on time. Had time to look at the city again before the limo ride back to the airport. 7 hours later we were at Heathrow. Another bus ride back to our multi million pound terminal 5 and our latest adventure is over.... read more

The day of the Boston marathon and the redsocks are playing as well. We decided to get away from it so went to the J F Kennedy Presendential library and museum. Went too far on the Metro and ended out in the suburbs. Back tracked though and found the place. Beautiful building set on the waterfront. Very moving experience and you were left to think about everything yourself. You could not come out of the place without being deeply moved. Where did it all go wrong? Decided to take a bus back into Boston and had to wait 40 minutes for it. Got talking to a young student from California. She had never heard of the London Marathon. Then back to the hotel by Metro. Lots of very tired runners to be seen. Long journey tomorrow ... read more

Another day in Boston. Terrible storms over night and .75 inch of water fell. Many tornados have been reported in tornado alley. 25 so far killed. One storm in New York before we left there resulted in the Empire State building being hit 4 times. Unusual in one night but it is on average hit 10,000 times a year. Better weather today and we set out for a long walk to "Cheers" for Brunch. Lovely in the park and we had a great Lunch/Breakfast. Then on along the freedom trail. So much easier now the Boston big dig is complete. Watched the beautiful people jogging along by the river. Went to see The Constitution, an old iron sided ship, the oldest in the fleet. There was a WWII destroyer in dry dock next door. A survivor ... read more

This hotel has not changed since we stayed here with Matthew and Patrick over 10 years ago. This morning we both felt a little better after our long haul yesterday. Pam continues to be under the weather and my gout hurts a lot. Went to the hotel restaurant next door for breakfast. Full of waiters trying to perfect their French accents but ending up sounding like Inspector Cloustoue. Good food though. It is bitterly cold here today, about 6 degrees c but add in the wind chill and it is below zero. Felt snow on my face today. Pam and I have decided to use the underground and buses. Both cheap with a 7 day pass costing £10 Went to redo the Heritage trail, did it before with Matthew and Patrick but this time we did ... read more

We said goodbye to New York today. Walked over to Penn station (underneath Madison square gardens) Waited for our train only to be told it was 40 minutes late. It was a long hot wait. Finally I can only describe it as a rugby scrum to get on the train. Took the guards offer to upgrade to business class. Much more comfortable. After a wonderful run through beautiful country we arrived in Boston. The hotel is a short walk from the station so the taxi driver we had 10 years ago ripped us off. Hotel has seen better times and is much more expensive than the New Yorker for a rough ordinary room with surly staff. Still have had a good dinner now and am looking forward to tomorrow. Will post more photos then.... read more

A better day in New York. The sun is shining and we are off to the Metropolitan art museum. We now have the hang of the underground so up to central Park. Spring is about 4 weeks behind the UK here so we are seeing dafoddils coming out into bloom. The park was delightful and we really enjoyed it. The museum was huge and expensive. $40 but there were some nice things to see and we had a good time. Saw 2 original Hoppers. Then a walk down 5th Avenue to find the micro brewery we used before. Disrupted by a huge Jewish demonstration using camper vans. Had a great lunch and some lovely IPA beer. Then outside, and one of those accidents that just happen. No one hurt but Pams camera was damaged. She was ... read more

This has been a very tiring day. The night was very lively with thunderstorms crashing all around Manhattan. Very misty but eventually it cleared a little. After breakfast, an underground trip down to the trade centre (ground zero} then on to battery park. A moment of panic when we discovered that we both needed photo id. Locked safely in the hotel safe box. After an extensive security search we were on our way to the statue of liberty. A talk to a friendly ranger along with my photo driving licence allowed us in. After 310 steps we were at the crown of the statue. Very clastrophobic but what a view. Then on to ellis island. I felt this was sad last time I was there and my opinion has not changed. Then back to Manhatten. We ... read more

A long trip from Heathrow. Up at 5 then on to the airport. Although at terminal 5, was bused out to the aircraft that was being repaired. Left 1 hour late and had a very bumpy ride to Newick airport New york.Nice to be greeted by the Limousine driver. Welcome to New York. Funny to be back in the New Yorker hotel but now on the 40th floor. Had cocktails at the bar and got talking to some people from Yorkshire. Ordered a take out from the ticktock diner (fish and chips) and am now watching the best of American TV whilst the thunder storms flash all around the hotel. Hopefully over to the statue of liberty tomorrow. More then. ... read more

A sad day because we are going home. Day started with a long walk down to the park. Watched people chilling out on the first day of the weekend. Then back to the hotel. Stretched limo arrived on time to pick us up to go to the airport. Plane was delayed but we were soon on our way home. An 8.5 hour 5000 mile trip back to Heathrow. Another adventure is over.... read more

Our last full day in Canada and it seems so long ago that we were in Toronto. We have made and lost some good friends and seen so many things. Today started wth a leisurely breakfast at a civilised time. Then out to explore. It was raining hard so we bought a day rover ticket and set off on the bus. The harbour is truly beautiful and after a walk around, we took one of the little water taxis across the bay.l Saw the cruise ship that will take some of our group to Alaska. Felt slightly envious. We did our shopping then stopped for lunch. A delicious salad. We then went out to Stanley park by trolley bus. A lovely walk through an Indian village. Saw racoons for the first time. Babies left by their ... read more
