Woke up to the rain on our windows & it looked like a miserable day in New York. Beccc & I decided we needed to do some exercise so got our runners on & walked in the drizzily rain to Central Park. What an invigorating run we had in Central Park in the rain, this certainly woke me up. Ran down to the Jackie Kennedy Reservoir & then stopped & walked back up 5th Avenue, by this time it had started to pour. Becc & I arrived back at the hotel looking like drowned rats, every piece of clothing was drenched. [View Full Entry]

Woke up quite late as we only got ot our room around 2.00am, very late. Got dressed for a day of adventure around New York. Went for a walk along Broadway,so many shops & people, well its manic. Brought a ticket on the City Sights Tour Bus, caught it & sat upstairs. The weather here today is around 24 degrees & muggy. The bus tour was terrific went around Times Square, through Greenwich Village, Little Italy, China Town & Soho, then back to Times Square. The whole Broadway street was closed to market stalls, which were kind of cool. Had a [View Full Entry]

All kinds of insanity has happened here - Kerouac wrote On The Road, countless rock bands have trashed hotel rooms, Dylan Thomas had his heart attack on the lobby steps.
And this is it...the final travel blog entry! The flight from London stopped in Reykjavik, Iceland for a couple hours. So I was really excited about seeing Iceland, from the air if nothing else! One caution: Iceland Air doesn't necessarily market itself as a discount airline, but it *is* - imagine a trans-atlantic flight (London-Iceland-NYC) without any food! Well, unless you want to pay for it... In any case, by the time I landed in NYC, went through customs, took the C train all the way to Penn Station, walked all the way to my hotel with my pack, and found [View Full Entry]

Be careful what you wish for.... that's all I can say. My super-paced Manhattan lifestyle was far too work-heavy and light on the zzzzzz's. I wished for one less job, and that's exactly what I got. The design office ran out of work for me, right after I really got to know my colleagues during a huge dinner celebration at a local Italian restaurant. I love my boss. He's personable, hilarious, treats his employees like family, swears he can't ever fire anyone, and plies us with rounds of red wine, sambucca, moscato, and drunken tiramisu. I refer to him in the [View Full Entry]

I Heart NY New.York.Was.Amazing. AAAAAH. I've wanted to go to new york for so so long, and now I've finally been!! 21 July 2009 - We left Edinburgh for London and spent a night in a sexy travelodge beside Heathrow -quelle luxury! It was our first experience of carrying the backpacks - it's kind of like carrying a small creature on your back- not pleasant! The only eventful thing was Iona being told off at security for taking a photo of me being frisked by the security guard-he stood and watched her delete the photo to make sure it was gone-brilliant. 22 [View Full Entry]

From our hotel room...very cool!
I love New York in July. Okay so I know that is not how the song goes, but it is more accurate for us. We arrived in NYC at rush hour. We thought "well everyone will be leaving the city and it shouldn't be bad." We were wrong. We crossed over into the city via Lincoln tunnel. Just getting into the tunnel after leaving the last of many New Jersey toll stations was the worst. They feed 6 or 7 lanes into two in about a length of 200 feet. We were too excited to let this bother us though. Luckily [View Full Entry]

Well I must apologize to those who have been wondering if I have dropped off the face of the earth. I have finally succumbed to the resistance and got off my lazy backside to write a blog. I have been back in the US for over a month now, and most of the time I've been trying to keep a healthy balance of Work, Rest and Play. My job at Mt. Sinai is coming along quite nicely actually. The guys in my base lab are very helpful even if they have a hard time understanding my 'Australian' English. The Whiteboard at [View Full Entry]
