We started off the day with a starbucks mainly to take advantage of the free wi-fi they had so we could find our way to Madison Square Gardens and The Empire State building. First up was MSG so that we could all buy tickets for the New York's first NBA game of the season. Jake and Alex opted for the cheap seats right at the top next to a bar, me and Jack bought mid range seats near the basket and Grant and Harv shelled out $500 for premium mid court seats. I spend $220 on my seat which was as high as I was willing to go but it did still take out a big chunk of the money I still had left! Me, Grant, Jack and Harv went to the Empire State while Alex, ... read more

Upon waking up there was piece of paper slid under the door which details all the charges that we had incurred, I was expecting the charge for the valet parking but not the charge for a bottle of water. Nobody had taken anything out of the mini fridge and thankfully the concierge downstairs agree to waive this particular fee. The valet delivered us back the car and it was time for one final drive which would take us to New York! It was going to be a 4 hour drive and we spent most of the time playing games where you take a topic and go through the alphabet coming up with answers. Along the way we finally managed to find a KFC, albeit miles out of the way, and it did not disappoint. The chicken ... read more

We head out of Pennsylvania into New Jersey towards Cape Cod for 6 nights of rest and recuperation, before hitting New York, our last stop before going home. I had hoped to avoid the city on our drive to this coastal region, but the route took me on the fringes, we could see the NY skyline from the New Jersey turnpike from our car. With the satnav working overtime, ‘……take the left lane, then keep right for the New Jersey Turnpike then keep left, keep left, then right lane over the George Washington Bridge…..’ fortunately, Alison was eagerly being a second pair of eyes on the satnav so as not to be going down the wrong highway or interstate. After a long drive we arrive at Cape Cod, a popular holiday and second home destination on ... read more

We started the morning with an early ferry ride over to the Statue of Liberty. Note to self, check the weekend times for commuter ferries. Turns out that the convenient $2 ferry across a small inlet by the marina doesn't start until 9 on Sundays, and we had to Uber over to Liberty State Park. The ferry from the Jersey side was much less crowded than the one coming from Battery Park. We made our way through the "airport style" security, both at the ferry dock and at the statue base, and headed up into the pedestal of the statue. They have the original torch there on display. The torch was modified many times over the years until it was replaced in 1986 and the original still has the final modifications. There is also an exhibit ... read more

Welcome to New York City. Monday, 27 June 2016 DAY 1 Francine arrived in NYC shortly before Angie and her sister Cindy. So she walked to the next terminal with her big and small wheely bags to meet them. On her way a nice shiney black car with a well dressed 50ish man pulled over to Francine. She thought he said " I'd like to ask for you" ??? Francine not hearing him properly, politely said "pardon". He repeated himself and said " i would love arse f***you. You'd love it". Francine shook her head in disbelief and walked double pace to the terminal. Wow what a first conversation with an American in USA. Once over the shock and meeting up with Angie and Cindy, the story was relayed to them. They were shocked and then ... read more

Hello everyone it's been too long since I have written anything on this travel blog guess that means I need to travel more. You remember my first blog when I took my son to NYC for spring break, well it's me and him again on the east coast except this time he's about to be a senior in high school and we're visiting colleges. Yes time does fly so it time to get out and see the schools on his list, of course none of them are in Texas so that means time for a trip. We're going on a 5 day trip to the east coast, it's going to be a busy 5 days and not only are we visiting schools we're also going to 3 football camps during this trip. I worked all day ... read more

School ended and summer started. It is time to travel. Me and my dad were going to go got New York to watch a soccer game that would have either USA or Brazil or both playing. But, in order for USA to play in NYC Colombia had beat or tie Costa Rica. But, Costa Rica won. In order for Brazil to play in NYC, they had to beat or tie Peru, one of the worst soccer teams in South America. But, Peru beat Brazil by one goal because of a hand ball, which was counted as a goal. So.....my dad sold the soccer match tickets, and we just went to New York. It was a 3 hour flight to New York, but once we got there we took a bus ride to Penn Station and walked ... read more

I think, when most people say they are going to New York City, they mean Manhatten, only one of the five boroughs which make up the whole of NYC. This was certainly true in our case and we had chosen accommodation which was central to exploring Manhatten. The Radio City Apartments were located slap bang in the middle of the Theatre district, just off Broadway and around the corner from Times Square. Perfect. The building itself was Art Deco in style (as are a lot of buildings in New York), there were still some vestiges of its heritage from that time, our room was small but perfectly formed and would do us just fine for our time in the city. We slept late on our first morning. A quick foray I made outside confirmed it to ... read more

You know how airlines always tell you to get to the airport in plenty of time, usually several hours before the flight? Why? Why do they do that? You get there within the time window they specify, just because, but then you have several hours to kill with nothing much to do. But, being good at following instructions, we get there at the suggested time and check our luggage in but we never, EVER, go through into Departures until much closer to boarding time. That’s a bit too much like being caged up in a confined space and we prefer to kick around the airport and its environs, where you can always go outside and soak up the sunshine, look at the views, chat to the people or have a cigarette. So, we huffed and puffed ... read more

Since it was raining this morning we decided that, instead of exploring SoHo, we would go to The American Museum of Natural History. After a brief subway ride (during which we did NOT get lost, we just had some trouble finding the right take-off point for a certain line) we arrived and boy was the line long! It stretched almost to the end of the block, and we're talking NYC Avenue block. Fortunately the line moved rather quickly and we were inside in no time. Once inside we made jaunts through several of the main halls (of which there are 45), our favorites being the Marine Life, the Meteorites, The Gems/Minerals, and the Dinosaurs. We were even able to catch a show at the Hayden Planetarium! After this we were of course very hungry, so we ... read more
