Upon waking up there was piece of paper slid under the door which details all the charges that we had incurred, I was expecting the charge for the valet parking but not the charge for a bottle of water. Nobody had taken anything out of the mini fridge and thankfully the concierge downstairs agree to waive this particular fee. The valet delivered us back the car and it was time for one final drive which would take us to New York! It was going to be a 4 hour drive and we spent most of the time playing games where you take a topic and go through the alphabet coming up with answers. Along the way we finally managed to find a KFC, albeit miles out of the way, and it did not disappoint. The chicken was so much better than anything that you can get back in the UK. The final room combination was decided with me, Grant and Harvey sharing for the first time on the trip. Grant also manged to drive through the wrong gate at the toll booth meaning that we would later receive a fine for not paying!
Upon arrival into New York
we had a very dangerous moment when in stationary traffic Harv decided that he wanted to check in the rear camera who was behind us. It was at this moment Alex then put his foot on the accelerator but thankfully Harv managed to put the car back into drive. It would have been devastating to have crashed the car on the final day that we were using it! Once we arrived at the hotel Alex waited in the car while the rest of us checked in as there was no car park at the hotel. Once checked in Alex and I went to return the car back to Alamo. Firstly we had to find a petrol station as we had not filled the car up before getting into New York and we were running low. However, every time the sat nav took us to what was meant to be a petrol station there was nothing there. After this happened for a third time it became clear that we never going to find one and that we needed to head back to the rental place before we ran out of petrol completely. I was stung with a $100 bill for the
lack of petrol in the car.
It was a 30 minute walk back to the hotel and typically it had started to rain. On the way back we decided to walk through Times Square which was an incredible sight to see even during the daytime. The Roosevelt Hotel looked very good in the lobby but unfortunately this grandeur did not extend to the rooms which were very outdated and we would be required to pay to use the Wi-fi. After a quick shower we went out for a few drinks and stopped at the first pub we saw. When it came to paying the bill $20 went missing although initially I was accused of not putting my share of the money on which I was quite offended by; somehow this note must have blown off the table. After the pub we went to Times Square which was even more impressive in the evening than it was during the day time. After exploring the shops in Times Sqaure we went to another pub for what turned out to be our last beer of the night Most people were quite tired and the big halloween night was the following
day.
