Our final day on our cruise was another sea day. The sea was rough and it was very windy on deck. We think it must be the tail end of another cyclone. Thankfully there wasn’t any rain and the sun was out.
Mum and I had a really lazy day watching movies on the ship funnel.
It was hard to say goodbye to our service team. Everyone has treated us like royalty.
The ship docked very early and we were able to disembark by 9:30am. Yvette and Margaret were flying home but Mum and I still had a few more days and fly out on Halloween. After dropping our luggage off at our hotel and with the advice from our porter that the next few days weather was going to very wet we headed back down to the Cruise port to take a circle line cruise around Manhattan Island. I highly recommend this tour as it’s a great way to see how big Manhattan and the surrounding borrows are. The tour took 2 and 1/2 hours by the time we got back we were able to watch the Disney Magic sail out on its next cruise...... without us ?
We woke up to heavy rain Sunday morning. As we are staying close to Radio City and our friends Corrina and Rod had recommended the tour, we braved the rain to check it out. Mum and I loved the tour. The Hall was being decorated for Christmas as their annual Christmas show featuring the Rockettes was due to start early November. The foyer was huge and they had hung a crystal Christmas tree from the roof that took our breath away. We were shown all around the hall and even got to go behind the scenes to meet a Rockette. She gave us a brief run down on the requirements to be a Rockette. As you need to be between 5 foot 7 and 5 foot 10... guess that counts me out.
After our tour we decided to head downtown as we needed to buy a large suitcase to get all our chocolate and purchases home ... I know you must be shocked by this.
Monday morning was cold and grey but thankfully not raining. We were off to do a Catacombs tour at The Basilica of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral. Mum and I have done a number of
Catacomb tours and they are all different but we find them fascinating. We were given a tour of the grounds with the two cemeteries then we headed inside. The Basilica has been under restoration for a number of years. Our guide has only been running these tours since February this year. We even got to see inside the huge pipe organ as it’s the next project to be restored.
The catacombs had recently been restored and were the most accessible we’d seen. We were allowed in the Erkert crypt who must have been very wealthy judging by the lavish fittings.
We’d booked Top of the Rock for 8pm our last night to see the city lights. We were lucky to have a clear night and could see lights for miles.
Our evening ended with us trying to pack our bags ... I should have taken a few photos of this process
We finished packing Tuesday morning and hoped they were all close to the 23 kg limit. Our flight home wasn’t till 18:00 so we had a few hours left and decided to do a loop on a hop on hop off bus. Even thought the sun was
out the wind was freezing and we were nuts to sit on the open deck. There was a lot of activity today as it’s Halloween and the parade route was going to go close to our hotel. We saw a lot of people dressed in costumes. It was nice just sitting on the bus and seeing all the places we were fortunate to visit over the last month
