Hoje completo uma semana aqui em New York. Já me inscrevi em três cursos de Global Affairs na New York University (Latin America: Overcoming the Political and Economic Crisis, The Global Natural Resources Crisis and NGOs in Global Affairs).

"You should buy this shirt, white people look good in black" - guy in Chinatown New York, on selling me a black I love NY shirt The Saturday that followed, June the 13 I got up after quality snoozage and we got ready to have some brunch. We went to an Irish pub and I had sheppard’s pie, I felt like it was ages since I had had one of these bad boys. What was pretty strange was that usually people from the states have alcohol during their brunch. Crazy! But it was all delicious. After thoroughly stuffing our faces we [View Full Entry]

Initally missing the bus to the airport. I still got there 2 hours before my flight which was great. I wondered, prior to boarding the flight for New York, why I brought my Russian passport. Maybe it was the romantic idea of running off to Cuba once I got to Florida, smoking Cuban cigars and dancing in a sweaty Cuban night club? Customs was relatively quick and I spent some time loitering in the Rijksmueseum that had a free mini exhibition in the airport between gates e and f. Well worth a visit particularly for the paintings of the birds of [View Full Entry]

So during Sunday brunch did you know most American's have cocktails?

Its been a couple of months since I have gotten home and even blogged about my experience.. After I got back from Greece I started my internship at Ramah Israel Programs and I had a blast. I did basic intern things like file, input things on the computer as well as photo copy. I had it down to a science. My normal hours were 10-6 sometimes 11-7 or earlier. There were only 9 of us at one time living in Jerusalem so the Otzmanikm got very close and I loved that. I was the only female from B7 so that I [View Full Entry]

While Penny was at our new house taking a well earned break from all the moving and cleaning this weekend, I managed to spot Celebrity Sighting #14. With Backpack on and Weber Barbeque in my arms, I was making the last trip north from our old apartment on 71st up to our new one on 81st. About halfway up, sweat beading off my face, looking very derelict, I looked up to see Michael Douglas walking with a few friends and what I assumed to be his grandchildren. No Catherine Zeta-Jones that I could see. Although heavily-laden, I managed eye contact, a [View Full Entry]

New York City Day 77 - Monday 01.06.2009 So if you remember (many weeks ago now) we are at the HI-New York and the reception we had last night was crap. Because we had booked our 3 night stay over 2 different phone calls we were on separate reservations so had to leave one room for another - not a problem, we are flexible like that. The thing was, we had to check out by 11am but we could only check in at 4pm! Plus as we had about 10 bags each that we could put in their storage lockers but [View Full Entry]

Our Old Kitty
Check out photos of our new place and cats... Well, we're in the process of moving our every-growing mound of worldly goods ten blocks Uptown. And this time it's for 6 whole months! (Talk about semi-permanence). We've scored a 1-bedroom apartment, fully furnished with an esoteric mix of Lonely Planet Guides, starfish, Buddha heads, a mighty flat screen cable TV, and 2 cats: Winston and Muffin. Winston is fat, greasy and smells like a dog. Muffin is a scaredy-cat. So far we've only seen her glowing wide eyes from the depths of the dark corner kitchen cupboard. We welcome all donatio [View Full Entry]

Woke up quite early yesterday (even for me) and got the subway into Manhattan whilst eating food I’d purchased in London and wasn’t really supposed to have brought into the country. I got off the train at 14th and 6th to do some sightseeing. Unfortunately I walked the wrong way for 20 minutes but did manage to see The First Presbyterian Church incase anyway cares. (I know I didn’t) When I eventually went the right way I walked most of midtown Manhattan up to the Empire State Building which was so big that I then had to walk back a few [View Full Entry]

I started early from Journal square, Jersey to WTC taking the PATH train. I had left out Chinatown and Little Italy from the downtown area yesterday. So I started walking northwest from WTC towards the Brooklyn bridge onwards to Chinatown. It wasnt difficult to find out as almost all the boards, faces, shops started turning Chinese along the canal street. It wasnt exactly breathtaking but amusing. I stopped across a foot rub and back massage center and thought of going in (never had one in my life!). But ditched it (all men masseurs ! would be better in Varanasi I guess). [View Full Entry]
