Thursday October 1st 2009 After the very late night of Wednesday, a lie in was definitely the way of choice for Thursday and we didn’t even wake until gone 10am - which for me is beyond late. Today was the day that we had booked months in advance for, and we were heading down to the Statue of Liberty to ascend the stairs all the way into the crown of the structure. Before September 11th, this was something that everyone could do, but since the terrorist attacks there has been very limited access, so much so that now they only allow [View Full Entry]

Still smiling despite the climb!

Hi everyone!! Recently got back from a lovely weekend in NYC with Karin and Jamie! Unfortunately, though, I have an absolute mountain of work to do this week. The courses may be somewhat easier here in the US, but my, do they like to give a lot of work. I need to write 50 pages in the next 2 days. I'll be happy with 20, though. After all, I only need to pass! Anyway, I woke up blurry eyed on Saturday morning (as I'd been practicing beer pong on Friday night!!) and headed on several buses to the Rensselaer train station [View Full Entry]

Yes, New York is known for its restaurants and late-night bars, but how often do people fall so easily into a meal that is hidden so far away from the mainstream of Manhattan, that they feel they're in a totally different area? How often do true New Yorkers venture outside their comfort zone and dine where they've never even taken a cab or gotten turned around on the metro? By the locations of some of the best meals I've ever eaten in the city, I'd say more often than not. My seemingly weekly catch-up session with JFK has given me the [View Full Entry]

[View Full Entry]

Monday September 28th 2009 The time to say goodbye to Boston had sadly arrived, and after a quick morning walk back around some of the nearby shops we headed up towards Back Bay bus station in downtown Boston ready to catch the bus to New York. I have to admit I am sad to be leaving Boston and both Kay and I agreed that we had a fabulous time in the city and would happily return in the not too distant future. Initially when planning the trip we had looked into renting a car and driving all through New England and [View Full Entry]

Upon arrival at JFK Airport it was with stinging eyes (due to watching about four or five films during the flight from Melbourne, accompanied by a few splashes of red wine) that we boarded the subway to make our way to our accommodation in Soho. After what seemed like an unending journey, we finally arrived at our hostel, only to be informed by a giant of man in a black leather coat and hat who spoke in a deep baritone that the hostel had been closed down by the NYPD that day due to it being a fire trap! So, after [View Full Entry]

We arrived in New York after a relatively comfortable 3hour flight, the plane left on time which has been a plus on this trip. We jumped in a taxi and took in the sights while we drove to our hotel, however we’d only driven about 10minutes when we hit gridlock… utter utter gridlock. What should’ve been a 20minute drive from La Guardia airport turned into an hour long nightmare of horns and fumes. We finally got sight of our hotel and our spirits lifted. There it was, in a good location and across the road from an Irish pub. Fantastic! We [View Full Entry]

How lucky are we??? For 12 weeks only, Bond & Wolverine are starring as a pair of Chicago cops in Broadway's - 'A Steady Rain'. As you can imagine, this play was SOLD OUT almost immediately, (unless your prosperity allows for premium seat tickets retailing at $452 each!). But thanks to Dave-the-bartender's innate ability to chinwag with beer-swilling locals, we scored insider tickets & saw the boys live from Row C last night. Yeeehaaar! Dave and I both agree 'A Steady Rain' is the best performance we've EVER seen. Hugh Jackman has proven himself on Broadway countless times, and he certainly [View Full Entry]
