Blogs from Palm Beach, Florida, United States, North America
The Flagler Mansion and The Breakers in Palm Beach have long been on our "to do short list!" Both were worth the wait and anticipation. We had toured Flagler College and the Flagler Museum in St. Augustine a few years ago but loved hearing more about Mr. Flagler from Don our impeccably dressed docent with Gucci loafers and no socks. Henry Flagler was John D. Rockefeller's partner. It was his "new idea" to incorporate Standard oil across state lines. He was the visionery who made Florida the agriculture and tourism center that it is today. He was quite the businessman and very generous. His method of philanthropy was to build towns - total infrasturctures with utilities, schools, hospitals, libraries, parks, municiple buildings, etc. - and turn them over to the people. The Palm Beach mansion, Whitehall, ... read more
Since our vacation policy is use it or loose it and since we've accumulated a week vacation since September we decided to take a few day in West Palm Beach (flying Spirit air from Atlantic City for just over $200 total for both of us) where we have free housing do to a WFTW listener who owns resort houses. We have been living an intense life these last few months and are ready for a break. Rich didn't want to be gone over a Sunday as we are already scheduled to meet some Waterloo friends in Phoenix in January so we left Monday and came back on Saturday. Sad to say a cold front came through and it was not swimming weather but it is a wonderful place to kick back and let our soul catch ... read more
Our Florida layover began on Tuesday morning when we disembarked in Ft Lauderdale. The ship is on a five day private charter so although we were able to leave one large suitcase and two shipping boxes on board, we had to vacate. We are making our temporary home at the West Palm Beach Marriott which we selected because it's close to the home of cruise pals Jim and Diana Blundell. We've spent two fun days visiting them and seeing first hand where they spend the winter. We've made a trip to Target to purchase those essentials we forgot. Dick finally succumbed to the cold I gave him so with luck that will be behind both of us by the time we begin the South America trip on Sunday. Saturday we depart our West Palm Beach "home" ... read more
Left the anchor at dawn. Ran with the two boats that I rafted up with in Vero Beach. Nice people. They ran at different speeds than my boat is used to and I think it vibrated a bracket off of my heat exchanger. This caused a leak. I made it to the anchorage which is in a place called Lantanna just south of West Palm Beach. Found the leak and got a piece of rubber to try to clamp it around the heat exchanger but the clamp is too big. Hope I can catch one of the other boats before they leave and see if they have a smaller clamp. If not I will have to dinghy to the road and hike to find another. I have the hoses hooked back up so if it comes ... read more
Seaquel on the move again!
Published: November 30th 2009North America » United States » Florida » Palm BeachLeft Vero Beach at 7:30. I can see why they call it Velcro Beach. It's hard to leave. Achored about 2:00 us at a place called Peck Lake just north of West Palm Beach. It is secluded but you can dinghy over to little beach and grove of trees and walk through a path and lay on the beach at the Ocean. I may stay here a few days ----- or not. Might be in Miami by the end of the week if I move fast enough. Then on to Marathon in the Keys. Then I may come back up to West Palm and decide if I am going over to West End on Grand Bahama. That would be after the New Year probably though. So it looks like Christmas in Marathon. EZ Breazes and Triumph, ... read more
Journeys - Extended Visit in the Palm Beaches
Published: September 28th 2009North America » United States » Florida » Palm BeachCurrently in-between travels, on an extended visit to the Palm Beaches. So, well, here in Florida, continuing to write the books while offering sessions to those here in this area. Sessions are done at the office and also in the ocean. And thank you again so much to the readers of the books (you know who you are) and those who share the books with others - also your comments on Borders.com, and so on. Although this is very small, in the vast expanse of things, it might matter to someone we've never met. On occasion, a client or guest might fly in from California for a session here in at the office or in the Bahama Room. After a few sessions on the treatment table, we might go to one of the beautiful ocean locations, ... read more
Getting Ready to Set Sail...
Published: May 20th 2008North America » United States » Florida » Palm BeachGot a call from the Captain, asking me to meet the boat in Charleston, SC on the 31st of May. Of course! Pack some "going out" clothes, and a computer. I have no idea what to expect, what type of crew is already on board, where I'll be sleeping, or what I'll see. This is a good start into the yachting industry. As a temporary deckie, I have a lot to learn this summer. We are planning on heading north to NYC and Long Island, around Halifax, Nova Scotia, into the St. Lawerence Seaway, and through a series of locks. The month of July is supposedly spent around the Chicago/Milwaukee area. Should be interesting, to say the least...!... read more
Le vent ... read more
To celebrate our 35th anniversary, we took a three day detour to Florida on our way home from ABWE Meetings in PA. From a contact through www.sermonaudio.com/wftw we were able to stay in a Resort Home in West Palm Beach. Here are a few photos of our short vacation.... read more
God Bless and Good Bye Florida!
Published: August 6th 2007North America » United States » Florida » Palm BeachWith my Degree in hand (YAY!) I'm off to travel the world! This particular post is my dedication to Florida. If this seems too much like a "myspace" blog for which I'm not to fond of, then please, feel free to skip to the next one. However, if you have been part of my life here in Florida, you might want to read this. Now that I'm leaving, I can spill all your dirty secrets, and you won't know where I live! HAHA! (unless your name is Dorraine, and you don't have dirty secrets-you're just dirty!) What I love about Florida is that there is 6 months straight where you can go to the beach, and drive around with your windows down. I know all the backstreets, where all the thrift stores are, where to get ... read more
