Hello Everyone! So I´m going to try finishing off my travels in Poland in this blog. So I was in Sosnowiec, staying with Martin´s grandma who is such a sweet, little lady. She fed Martin, Ola and I so well and with such good food!! When we arrived at her place we went to see her little garden which is pronounced j-ow-ka. I can´t remember the Polish spelling at the moment. It was really neat! Many people who live in Poland have these little gardens because they either live in apartment buildings or they do not have a yard next to their home. So there is an area of land that is divided up for each family to plant their garden. People plant everything in their garden from beautiful flowers to vegetables, trees and fruits! It ... read more

So, here we are, another Oak Hall trip SP12, cooking again, this time camping at Camping El Pins near url=http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/Europe/Spain/Catalunya/Malgrat_de_Mar-261916/TravelGuide-Malgrat_de_Mar.htmlMalgrat de Mar in Catalunya with Kate! Another beautiful coach journey (again, doing some couriering - essentially staying awake to pay the French tolls!) and very excited to find that Emma and Marianne, friends from Christ Church were also on the trip (and as the team we introduced and I said that I was of no fixed abode, a yell of Winchester came down the stairs!). Bit dispiriting to be driving over in the rain, but by the time we arrived at the campsite (rather early, to the surprise of the group who were to ... read more

When in Rome, do as the Romans do? Kristian and I pondered about this saying the whole time we spent in Rome, looking around us wondering what exactly it was that the Romans do to inspire such a saying. It turns out, thanks to Kristian’s post-travel research, that it was just some discussion among priests about proper fasting behaviour in Italy’s different cities that inspired our modern adage. Not as interesting a story as I was hoping! So we left Venice and boarded the plane for Rome. In all honesty, it was a half-hearted move for the both of us. Before we even landed in Rome we were wishing we’d done the holiday the other way around. After spending time in such an amazing place like Venice, we couldn’t imagine that a plain old city with ... read more

After getting back to Edinburgh Tuesday was spent doing a bunch of blog entries at an internet cafe while Heather and Jesse did another bunch of errands. We were up and at it fairly early on Wednesday 'cause we had a flight to catch to Amsterdam and we had to return the rental car on the way. Things were seeming to be going nicely, thinking of being at the airport about 8:00AM for our 10:00AM flight, when I just happened to check the paperwork for our EasyJet flight and boy, did things hurry up!! The flight was actually scheduled to arrive in Amsterdam about 10 and the departure was 8:50AM. So much for thinking we were doing well and going to have an easy couple hours at the Edinburgh airport to have breakfast before our flight. ... read more

Hello all!! So we have just got back from an eventful trip to Venice!! Our journey began last Thursday the 2nd August. The airport is far away so we had a three hour coach trip first!! Then we finally arrived at the airport at 1am, and our plane was not until 6.30am so it was a long wait sleeping on the airport floor!! It must be a similar story for everyone because the airport was crammed full of people in sleeping bags!! We finally boarded the plane and took off on time, it was cloudy everywhere so we didn’t see anything good on the way!! When we landed in Venice it was off for another coach ride to the town centre. To get around Venice you have to use the Water Bus, which goes down the ... read more

This one won't take that long, I hope. What can I say about Amsterdam? Well, I guess the easiest thing to say about Amsterdam is that it is a town in a league of its own. You step off the train and it's like you've stepped back in time about 30 years. Sure it's a modern city but in an old fashioned kinda way. It's a very liberal and free-spirited town, full of liberal and free-spirited people. I suppose that's the nice way of saying it's full of "hippie-like" people who for the most part are so stoned out of their minds to have any care in the world. Whether you like it or not, any visitor to Amsterdam will be surrounded by these people who take full advantage of the fact that soft drugs are ... read more

Just a very short post to tell you that we are back in Koblenz, until August 14th. Sunday, we are making a nice little day trip down to Heidelberg to see Juliana, my close friend and roommate of 3 years from college. She lives in Germany working with a youth group on a military base in Ramstein. Then, we will be heading for Paris to celebrate our anniversary and to say, "Au revoir!" to Europe. We fly home on August 19th. Chet will probably post a blog sometime today.=) K... read more

Hello to all our faithful readers. As you may have guessed the blog has gone haywire. We have tried our best to retrieve everything that we lost but as we are not techno whizzkids the going has been tough. If there are any computer anorachs out there that can help we'd be very grateful. Hopefully things should be Ok from now on and we'll give you an update of our last stretch in the UK. We made our way around the Wash and true to its name it was awash. Sorry Lincolnshire and the fens we weren't too impressed, when you've seen one cabbage field and a pair of ditches and dykes (the grassy and watery variety) you've seen them all.
