LONDON 30/04/07 Jet-lag wasn’t really a problem for us. We seemed to arrive at a good time and had a great nights sleep, although Julie did fall out of bed after waking up quite disoriented. We were staying at Wendy’s flat, however she had recently bought a flat literally just around the corner which settled 4 days later. So the first week was really spent moving and shopping to get settled, not to mention christening a few of the local pubs. A few days later we went to the boat race. Every year Oxford and Cambridge University had a boat (rowing) race which is quite popular. So a bunch of us went down to the riverside at Putney to watch the start of the race. It was chocas full of people on the street and ... read more

Sunday was the day we booked our tour to Windsor Castle- something I had missed out on previous trips to England. With great weather, we headed out in the early morning to join our tour. Windsor is a lovely town with Windsor Castle overlooking the surrounding town and countryside including Eton school. I would love some more time to look around the quaint ships and pubs, but our main attraction was a visit to the castle on this trip. It would be our luck that this was the last day the royal apartments were open to visitors for the season. The Queen was also in residence in preparation for the upcoming Easter weekend. Lots of opportunity for pictures with royal guards! Unfortunately, cameras were not allowed inside the castle, but we managed to see the ... read more

Hey guys, By the time you read this we should be enjoying our final nights kip before flying for 19 hours (with a quick stopover in Schipol for breakfast and a beer :)) into Lima, capital city of Peru. A quick confession from under the excited exterior: I'm pushing my comfort zone totally. We haven't really planned much and as I've never travelled before its a) hard to let go of the 'it's-the-end-of-the-world-if-I'm-late-and-miss-the-bus' kind of mentality, which is daft as I already know another one will come along in a few hours, or days. B) I'm a worrier by nature so this is one giant leap of faith and trust. C) (stands for cliché) This will change my life. The planning we have done goes vaguely as follows: We'll spend a couple of days in Lima ... read more

Hey Everyone!! Happy Birthday a couple of weeks ago Olaf!! Hope you had a great time! Sorry this is a bit late but in my defence I had no idea when your birthday was until Megan wrote to me!! I can't believe its almost been two weeks since i last sat down and tried to remember what i'd been doing. It'd probably be much easier if i did it every couple'a days but that would be really proactive and not my style at all! As you might have guessed from the heading of this i moved around quite a bit over the last two weeks so i got quite a bit to catch up on. Okay, I better get started. When you last joined us ... I believe i was writing in the internet cafe having ... read more

About a month ago Karen and I went for a walk one Sunday night and discovered that our house is a street away from the river Thames. Never realised that as I always walk the opposite way in order to catch the tube. Anyways, one of the things on my "Must Do" list is to see the Oxford vs. Cambridge University Rowing Race. Unfortunately I will be in New York next weekend when that is run but there are also 2 other races called the Head of the River Race. One is for females and the other for males. The race is a huge deal for the rowing community and is open to all rowing houses. This year they had to cap the entries at 65 teams because the river just isn't big enough. It also ... read more

The weekend was spent playing forceback (rugby ball kicks for those who don't know the game) down at the local park. We played a good few hours on both Saturday and Sunday. The weather was awesome for both days and has in the main been really hot lately. The teams were the boys Richard and I, against the girls Emily, Lisa and Andre. Andre looked good in his skirt and floral hat. They ended up beating us, despite some super plays by Richard including a massive diving catch to keep us in the game. In the end we could blame the fact that we were playing into the wind, but realistically it was probably the fact that after about 2 minutes we were knackered. I've vowed to go for some runs before the cricket season to ... read more
