Hi, I finally got around to calling Mom after all of the unpacking and tending to a backload of to do's. While it is warm and sunny here in Colorado, she is in the middle of a late winter blizzard in Michigan. What she didn't know when she broke the news is that I had just previously found out from her florist. I called to order a surprise bouquet for her birthday. He could make no guarantee on the delivery date because of intrepid travel conditions. Well it's late anyway, so what is a couple more days... While we chatted I bought tickets to go and see her in a couple weeks. I feel like such a jetsetter (is that sitter? My bum is beginning to reflect it :) The world is shrinking by the ... read more

Whoops! We have had a wonderful quote from our man Lloyd on the price for our tickets. Travel Nation were really good, we paid our deposit a fortnight ago and had until today to pay the balance. Imogen phoned me this evening in a panic saying Did we need to pay by today? - of course not, I told her. Oh bugger, it's 22:55 and I've just emailed Lloyd asking if we're going to be OK. Could this be the end before we've even started?!... read more

Eventful Day Europe » United Kingdom » Scotland » Edinburgh By bsmurf77April 4th 2007Brian Murphy Today was a very packed full day. I woke up early and went wandering about near the Royal Mile and Princes Street. Eventually I started walking back towards the flat, and began looking for a barber. Luckily I found one, the person did a good job and it only cost me 7 pounds. After lunch, I went with the Scottish Culture and Society class on our field trip to Glenkinchie, where we toured a whiskey distillery. We all had a lot of fun, mainly because of the sunny warm weather. The tour w... read more

Had a terrible nights sleep. Woke up a few times during the night. Thought I would just start real early at one point. Put my phone on and noticed it was only 2.30am. Got up at seven again and left just after eight. Path in the morning was ok for the most part. One stretch was very difficult and there was a sign saying how it was only upgraded recently. Must have been murder before. Stopped for an ice cream at the campsite and wigwams just before Tyndrum. Weather today is again lovely. Applied suncream many times, but i'm still burning a little bit. Had lunch at the Green Welly. Managed to stock up on milk and sugar satches. Picked up another pair of socks and some sausages for dinner later. Left Tyndrum at 2pm ... read more

Tuesday Its been a long, long day. Left the campsite at 8am as i couldnt sleep much. Was cold and uncomfortable, so decided to get up and have an early start. Headed towards Rowerdern. Got there at 10.50. Had to wait ten minutes for the Rowedern Hotel to open up for lunch. Had mushroom soup and a steak pie while watching the repeat of the Aston Villa vs Everton match from monday night. Watched the first half, but decided to leave if i wanted to get anywhere today. Walked up the side of Ben Lomond for a while, before heading back to the shore line. Meet a guy who caught up with me when i stopped to take a photo. We ended up walking together for the rest of the day. He was getting picked ... read more

Day 4 Penwith - Portreath 26miles (125 miles total) Had to miss the pleasure of the coast route to St Ives to divert to Newlyn to retrieve my mobile which had fallen out of my bag in Newlyn the previous day . Retraced my route around Mount Bay stopping to have a look at Marazion Marsh . Then cycled on following pleasant lanes past fields of daffodils to Hayle where I lunched alongside the tidal lagoon. Finished the day off cycling into a stiff headwind up the scenic coast until the steep descent to Portreath , a cove with an industrial past. Stayed at a pleasant farm guest house two miles up the Mineral Tramway ... read more

On Stella's Birthday (1 April) in the afternoon we arrived in Dorchester to meet up with Jeff who had booked us all to have a go at Zorbing! Having been asked to do this some months ago, now I'm not so sure. All of us (I think) were a little bit dubious when we arrived and watching the zorbs rolling down the hill did not fill us with much hope of improving our worries! After booking in and speaking to the very nice ladies at the reception desk to updated us on details about the zorbs, harnesses, aqua zorbs together with what to wear, I felt a little more reassured. Jeff had booked four single zorbs and two double zorbs. Stella and Wayne had previously decided to going together but now were going to do the ... read more
