I'm herewith testing my blogging ability. Not Long now! This is my last working day this term, and on Monday I'll be in Kampala. I am very excited and really looking forward to working with the staff and students at Kigezi High School. If this works you'll be able to come with me on my journey, and see how I fare in my personal quest to observe odd-toed ungulates and other wildlife, particularly the pangolin and of course Balaeniceps rex.... ... read more

Friday March 30 Arrived at our hotel, Holland House, in Bristol. Yes, a change from our original itinerary. It’s a new hotel only that only opened a 9 days ago. Its very smart, a few minor teething problems, to be expected at this stage, but very comfortable, a good find! Unpacked, we freshened up and walked into the city centre for dinner. We eventually found a small restaurant near the pub we had planned on visiting later, called Johns Café. Despite the name, it was Thai, but with several strange influences like Pappadums and Naan and Roasties (small potatoes), all served by English staff. After dinner we went to a Pub called The Old Market Tavern. It wasn’t very busy though, so we moved on to another pub, The Griffin which was a bit more ... read more

So now we have made it to our new home in London...well we haven't really found a home yet but we are working on it. We arrived after what seemed like to longest flight in the world from Bangkok. Famous last words from Jane..." as if the 12 midnight flight from Bangkok to Frankfurt will have ANYONE on it". Hmmm, delusional. The flight was way overbooked and by the time the lights went out, everyone was asleep except for Jane and the flight attendants. Let's just say that this was the only time that I have ever employed my yoga breathing in a practical situation and it worked ( Kate, you will have to let Gail know that I did learn something). Lucky, otherwise I would have wigged out sandwiched between two rather large men, ... read more

Today has been busy, and it's not over yet! Our hostel so far is awesome, we are sleeping 12 people to a room, co-ed, so funny. The walls are pink and sarah heard about three people talking in their sleep last night. After some breakfast and a quick trip to the store (where there was a fun selection of gluten-free food :) we headed out towards Buckingham Palace. It began to rain, but a little rain wasn't going to keep us from seeing the changing of the guards. By the end we were soaking wet, and had to find a cafe to get some warm drinks and dry off. We made our way down to Westminster Abbey and Big Ben. Both were fun to see, but the rain continued so we found the underground. We ... read more

Well I made it back to London, with my new temporary passport and all! how excellent. so yesterday I got up and went to teh embassy to pick up my new passport. no problems which was nice. Then I hopped on the metro to head south of town, then onto a suburban train to ostia antica. its the port city of ancient rome (it was so long ago that its not even on the river or the ocean any more). It was kinda creepy looking at all the ruins but totally interesting. Its like Pompeii except it was just abandoned when Rome fell instead of being buried by a volcano. Lots of big buildings, old toilets (very strange, and very public), a forum, theatre, etc etc. spent a little while walking around there, then headed back ... read more

Visited Aunty Mary who was dog sitting for my parents then headed to Waynes house to catch up on our nights out (his was less fun as he was working!!) We went to diving and then got up EARLY 3.30 AM!! and went out with Wayne to London, we got egg rolls for brekkie before heading back to the factory. Now of course this is the second time for me to write this as the trusty interweb had a brain explosion. So i'll see if I can recreate the goodness... We arrived in London two days ago and since then I have been on a total high. I love this place so much! It is amazing. It is cold and raining outside and the traffic is horrendous and all I want to do is go out there and watch it all and run around like a crazy person seeing everything I possibly can. As a planner of course it is a dream (and a nightmare at the same time). The tubes work (and then sometimes they don't) the buses work (until they get stuck in traffic) and mostly, the place is so full of history ... read more
