This was probably the most relaxing holiday we have ever been on. I remember working with a Croatian lady in Sydney and when she found out I was coming over to Europe she said “You have to visit Croatia, it has the most beautiful beaches. The water is incredible, much better than here.” And I smiled politely and said yes of course it is - still under the closed minded opinion that Australia had the best coast in the world. You can see from the photos that she was right. This 2008’s travel must do was Croatia. Everyone who we knew who had been there loved it and had the most amazing photos to share. The plan, take a week off and “sail” down the coast of Croatia. It’s not difficult as it literally is THE ... read more

We spent the August Bank Holiday in Madrid with Benno as he was there with his lovely lady Christina and it was his birthday - what better reasons to head to Spain? Highlight of the weekend was the house party we went to on Saturday night at Christina’s flatmate’s parents place. Her grand dad was the Swedish Ambassador to Spain and he built this great holiday house just outside of Madrid that has been kept in the family. It was like being in high school again, having a party at someone’s house when their parents have gone away for the weekend - nostalgia! The place came complete with a library, rumpus room filled with musical instruments (double bass, grand piano, 2 electric guitars and a drum kit!), a sauna, a pool and of course a Labrador ... read more

Whoever said that Greenland was Ice and Iceland was Green was wrong. There is plenty of ice in Iceland. There’s a reason why they offer cheap flight and accommodation deals to Reykjavik in March, it’s bloody freezing! Reykjavik itself is pretty small and there’s not a huge amount to see. But we were told that in the summer time when they have virtually 24hr sunlight, the city comes alive and they pretty much party 24/7. Unfortunately for us, it was not summer time. It was spring and the city was still a little dopey eyed coming out of winter. So after arriving and pretty much seeing what there was to see in an afternoon, we decided to take the well known “Golden Triangle” tour of the surrounding area. Iceland is a geologists dream, there’s all sorts ... read more

March 25th 2008

A week before visiting Reykjavik, we decided to get some sun time in and hop over the Med to Cyprus for the Easter long weekend. Cyprus was pretty cool, “half” Greek “half” Turkish, the world only actually recognises the Greek occupation of Cyprus. The Turkish occupation is considered illegal by the UN and they still have military patrolled boarders between the two sides. There’s quite a rich Greek history in Cyprus as the goddess Aphrodite is supposed to have been born on these shores in a sea shell. There are ancient temples to her and sacred spots, including a grotto where she supposedly bathed with Adonis. There are also tales of Richard the Lionheart and the Knights Templars in later years, but that doesn’t seem to live on today. We stayed in the party town of ... read more

Snowboarding :D Not a place for people who are any good at this, it was perfect for us as we’re still beginners and the slopes are fairly easy so you can start to play around and get your confidence up so you can show off a bit. We were definitely glad we had a car so we could travel between the 3 different mountains. We were only there for a long weekend and we managed to cover the lot. We didn’t have great snow but we had 2 sunny days and it only got overcast on the last day - we nearly got lost going home but managed to find out way by sheer luck!... read more

Benny boy’s birthday is always on the bank holiday weekend at the end of August. So this year he organised a trip to Lisbon where a friend of his is from. She was lovely enough to put up all 8 of us in her Mum’s flat, and not only that, come and pick us up at the airport - What a champion! I should forewarn you, this entry is mostly about food. So we took a couple of extra days off around the b/h weekend and Ben, Baz and I landed in Lisbon on the Friday morning. After a quick stop at Eduarda’s flat to drop our bags and have the tour, it was time to meet up with Christian, who got there the day before, and find a bar! Eduarda took us to a gorgeous ... read more

June 26th 2007

We already decided that there was only one festival we would go to this year and that would be Glastonbury. If we couldn’t get tickets, we weren’t doing any. Luckily for us, Baz’s work has super speedy internet access and he managed to secure our tickets and 16 of our mates. So we were off again! And this time, much better prepared. All the camping gear, plus baby wipes, plus Sanex, plus GUMBOOTS. I have never been happier to own and be wearing a pair of shoes. These babies saved me. And I think Bazza was definitely glad he didn’t rely on positive thinking this year. Glasto didn’t fail to live up to it’s reputation. Whilst we didn’t get any flooding this year, it rained every day, we got about 5 hrs sunshine over the whole ... read more

Photos from a Hen Weekend in Wales...we hired out 3 log cabins in the Forest of Dean just inside the Welsh boarder. The big bonding activity was Go Ape, 5 activity circuits that you have to make your way around 40 feet above the ground in trees! The rest of the weekend is pretty self explanatory ;P... read more

I’m not a motor sports fan. I really don’t understand what compels people to watch a bunch of cars that all look the same drive round a track 300 times. If you want to see the crashes, watch the highlights. But nevertheless, Baz loves it, so at my suggestion we booked the Monaco Grand Prix for the end of May bank holiday 2007. I figured it would be quite a prestigious event and we could book ourselves into some decent seats and he could watch the race, while I explored the refreshment tents and perhaps a super yacht or two. It didn’t go quite as planned… Dave and Jess were double dating this trip with us and it’s probably a good thing that they did or Barrie and I may have killed each other, or a ... read more
