Benny boy’s birthday is always on the bank holiday weekend at the end of August. So this year he organised a trip to Lisbon where a friend of his is from. We already decided that there was only one festival we would go to this year and that would be Glastonbury. If we couldn’t get tickets, we weren’t doing any. Luckily for us, Baz’s work has super speedy internet access and he managed to secure our tickets and 16 of our mates. So we were off again! And this time, much better prepared. Photos from a Hen Weekend in Wales...we hired out 3 log cabins in the Forest of Dean just inside the Welsh boarder. The big bonding activity was Go Ape, 5 activity circuits that you have to make your way around 40 feet above the ground in trees! I’m not a motor sports fan. I really don’t understand what compels people to watch a bunch of cars that all look the same drive round a track 300 times. If you want to see the crashes, watch the highlights. But nevertheless, Baz loves it, so at my suggestion we booked the Monaco Grand Prix for the end of May bank holiday 2007. I figured it would be quite a prestigious event and we could book ourselves into some decent seats and he could watch the race, while I explored the refreshment tents and perhaps a super yacht or two. A tiny archipelago of 3 islands in the Med not too far from Italy. We stayed in the north of the main island in a place called Buggiba so we'd be close to the ferries that run to Gozo and Comino (the other 2 islands). Not a hell of a lot to do there, there's a few sandy beaches but most are pebbled (some red rock beaches that looked pretty cool, but not exactly comfortable) or just shear rock - very impressive. After being in Europe for 2.5 years Barrie still hadn’t been to Rome. So for Easter 2007 we thought we’d spend this Christian holiday in the most Christian of Christian cities, Rome. We arrived on Good Thursday night and shared a cab into town with a nice French couple who could thankfully speak a little Italian. Our hostel turned out to be Mamma’s house. A large apartment where Mamma, Pappa, daughter and granddaughters lived in the centre of Roma. It was charming. We booked this flight to New York last year in November as there was a really cheap flight deal.
