So, Adam and I are very aware of the fact that we are so far behind in our blogs that it is not funny. Have had very limited access to internet cafes over the past couple of months. And, if we have to make the choice between sitting in an internet cafe for hours or the having a few drinks, the choice is a little too easy. We are back in London now and will be heading the States on Monday before heading home for Christmas. For those of you who are on Facebook, if you become Adam's "friend" you can check out some other photos from our trip...so much faster to upload. Anyway, we'll be home soon, so we can tell you all about it then!... read more

If Bratislava was fairy land then the only way to describe Vienna was grand. We discovered on our first night that free Vienna Film Festival on the Rathausplatz was taking place. So, we sat and watched the orchestra outside the Rathaus (city hall) sipping on some red wine and enjoying the beautiful evening. Apparently the conductor that we were watching, Carlos Kleiber, is quite famous and taped performances of him are quite rare, so the place was packed. We watched an old Austrian man get so fed up with rude people talking during the perfomance that he nearly started a fight with a man less than half his age. Adam was ready to support him. Vienna really knows how to put on a show and we ended up going there again the next night to watch ... read more

The next morning we tossed up going to the Sziget Festival again, but making a short trip to Bratislava won out. Bratislava was a huge suprise to both of us. After getting lost on the way from the hostel to the Historic Centre, we were a little dejected until we accidently stumbled into one of the most beautiful old city´s we have ever been to. I was so impressed that I nicknamed it "fairy land" immediately. We made the trek to the top of the hill to see Bratislava Castle, which had a great view of the old town and to the other side of the river where the huge communist remanents of apartment buildings provided a stark contrast to the beauty of the old city. We discovered that nightime was when the beautiful people came ... read more

The overnight train was the only option from Krakow to Budapest, so it had to be done. It would have been okay ïf we didn´t have to share the compartment and didn´t get woken up what seemed like every hour by someone checking our passport or tickets. It also seemed to be the slowest train in the world. Adam spent the whole of the morning being eyed up by the old Hungarian lady sitting next to him, she obviously liked what she saw! Needless to say, when we finally made it to our hostel on the Buda side of the river we were in need of a shower and a nap, followed by a big dinner on the Pest side of the river where most of the restaurants and bars are. I was excited by the ... read more

Our last day in London was beautiful and sunny Sunday which we spent relaxing by the Thames. We were starting to think that after a horrible start to the summer the weather might be changing...perhaps we should stay? Well, when we woke up on Monday to fly to Krakow, the weather was foul again and when we hopped of the plane it was a sunny 25 degrees and we knew that we had made the right decision. Adam was rejoicing in the fact that I had lost my voice after a decent bout of the flu. It would take about 2 weeks to come back properly...how was the serenity Adam? Krakow really is a beautiful city. Most of the tourists tend to hang near the Old Town. The Main Square is the largest medieval town square ... read more

Or, a "mini-break" and Bridget Jones would call it. After a full week’s work, it was definitely time to get out of London for a while. The destination was Bath, somewhere I have always wanted to go. The first stop on the tour was Stonehenge. Hmm, Adam and I found the whole Stonehenge thing quite confusing. We knew that we were supposed to be amazed and marvel at this world heritage listed prehistoric site, but seriously, are they kidding? I am not going to say anything more for fear of being a disrespectful, but for those of you who have been and marvelled…please explain? Anyway, quite fittingly, after standing on tippy-toes to take a photo over the barbed wire fence, the batteries in our camera died and being in the middle of nowhere - just ... read more

I (Adam) scored a week of work on Jersey, one of the islands in the English Channel. As I sat in the departure lounge at Gatwick Airport I soon realised why the general hospital needed extra staff... it seems that Jersey is a popular holiday destination for the senior citizens of London. No doubt some of the holiday packages include an intensive care stay. Jersey is a very pretty place with a population of about 100,000. Or as my new mate Pete explained, "one hundred thousand alcoholics clinging to a rock" and "when the tide comes in we just stand closer together". People must have to stand real close as the island has huge tides of around 11 to 12 meters. There is a castle on an island off the capital St Hellier. At low ... read more

We arrived back in London after a great trip to Spain and felt like we had been slapped in the face. What followed were an interesting couple of weeks of hostel hopping during which we discovered the following about London: 1.The hostels are really dodgy and expensive, especially when you are doing the “hostel hop” every night. 2. Nothing ever happens quickly; always expect the worse. 3. Public holidays seem to slow the process down even more, especially when there are two in a month and you are unemployed. 4. Roast chicken and stuffing sandwiches from M&S taste good but are likely to have repercussions for at least 12 hours after consumption. 5. Flatfinder is a BIG waste of time and money unless you want to live in a house with 12 people in Willesden ... read more

So Salamanca farewelled us with pouring rain and freezing temperatures (about 5 degrees celsius). I (Jane) had a little bit of and interesting lunch at the bus station after deciding to try something different. Well, through the glass window in the bar, it definitely looked like a concoction involving oyster mushrooms and smelt great...I am sure that I had seen it in other bars. On closer inspection once back at the table, Adam said, "Jane, they looking suspiciously like an animal product"...."don't be silly Adam, they are mushrooms". Adam was right though, as he quite often is, and after taking a bite I realised that I was eating a porkers ears. Adam thought this was hilarious and spent the whole bus trip oinking at me. It put me off my food for at least 6 ... read more
