Today I tested out my new old lady's rail card - how come I'm old enough for one? And I took a train through the beautiful Welsh countryside to the coast at Aberystwyth. Its a stunning ride through steep valleys and then along the beautiful Dovey valley. There was still snow on the hills, and lost of floods too. I spent 4 hours in Aber, mostly near the sea. It was pretty rough and great fun to watch. I also climbed the Constitution Hill, which was very windy. Alex had primed me about how to set the camera on timer, so I could take pictures of myself. But it was so rough that either the camera blew over, or I did! - thus lots of tasteful pics of sky, grass and my hand! Another time I ... read more

Alex had a day off today, so we set off with two dogs - we still have a small and enthiusiastic visitor called Poppy (or sometimes "Blanket" as she likes to hide under one) while her Mum's in hospital. Not as sunny as yesterday, but we had some nice walks along the shore, and got windblown. Good for New Year fresh air.... read more

Ineke returned from New year in Holland yesterday, and I was going to pick her up from the airport in Liverpool. When I mentioned this to Lynda, she suggested we went earlier and made a day of it. So we did. Had lunch in the chinese cafe we found last time, took a tour on the open top bus and then climbed to the top of the cathedral and saw the sunset. And lastly collected Ineke, spot on time. How did we do that?... read more

We've had a very cold few days, and when it rained Friday morning on the cold ground, it turned straight to ice. which was hard as I couldn't turn the car round to get down the drive........ and i was taking Ineke and Caroline to Birmingham to see the Messiah (King's College and Age of the Enlightenment). In the end, it melted thanks to heavy rain, and I was on schedule. I picked Caroline up, to find that she had fallen on the ice and thought she'd broken a bone in her hand - turned out she had, but came anyway! Of course, Ineke has a broken ankle - load of old crocks. We enjoyed the Christmas market despite a soaking, then the concert was wonderful. But it took 3 hours to get home thanks to ... read more

After having the new stove fitted, we thought a load of wood before the cold weather would be sensible. After delivery, I took the dog for a sunny walk in the woods while Alex worked had to get it all stored in the dry. Good teamwork.... read more

It was a busy weekend! Yesterday Linda and I went to a willow weaving workshop, which was good fun but hard work for the fingers. I had been to one before and made a thing for sweet peas to grow up and a cornucopia, but this time we made something different. And on Friday night we went to watch Alex's AmDram group put on a murder play. He couldn't be in it himself as he's busy rehearsing the panto in Llanfair. Mum and Dad came, and Marion and Ineke too. If you wonder why Ineke has Mum's second best wheelchair, its because she fell and broke her ankle badly three weeks ago, (and guess who had to rescue her from the woods! ) and its not allowed to touch the ground. The play was excellent, by ... read more

Today I took Mum along to the Food fair in Welshpool. There were lots of stalls, selling all kinds of home made chocs, fudge, liqueurs, cakes and biscuits. Also some craft stalls. There were lots of people there, the car park was jam packed and though we tried 3 times to get a sandwich, there were no free tables and a long queue. So we went a few times round, spent some money and had lunch at home. It was fun.... read more
