Just a quick message to wish Happy New Year to all our friends, relations and the many acquaintances we have met on our travels last year in S.E. Asia and Poland and also acquaintances from previous years. Well, the New Year has begun and the big wide world is beckoning us again. We’re now counting down to our next trip. On January 16th we fly of to Bangkok to explore more of S.E. Asia. This time we will spend a month visiting the Thai islands along the west coast and down into Malaysia to Kuala Lumpur. From there we fly to Ho Chi Ming City in Vietnam and spend a month travelling up the coast as far as Hanoi. After that we fly to the Philippines for 3 weeks. We have it on good authority, Sharon ... read more

I thought I'd start off with my party a week before I go so I had a goodbye party last night so my friends could come and see me before I leave. Mum made a delicious pavlova and ordered a cake with a kangaroo and a koala- which was yummy! Loads of people came and brought food, cards, presents and Aussie dollars! I was spoiled!! Only 6 days left until I fly out and I still have lots of packing to do! Think I'm on top of everything- flights booked, insurance bought and visa sorted!!! I just need to get to the airport on time!!... read more

Finally arrived at Capernwray after the first major delays of any trip I’ve ever taken. First, customs took like two hours at the airport just because of a huge line (which apparently I could have bypassed because I’m a student :/) , then, I met Kathy and later Alex while waiting for the coach (we missed the 9:30 one because of customs). That coach finally took us to Victoria coach station where we had some debate but then eventually found the right spot and a bunch of other Capernwray students awaiting that coach. That also was delayed, not leaving until after 1:00 when it was supposed to leave at 12. The coach ride wasn’t so bad at first, we got to see some cool parts of London that had old style apartments with fancy roofs/windows but ... read more

Looking back on the last few days… Have become good friends with Andy, Michael, and Britta, playing cards or ping pong and hanging out every night. Spent one afternoon sitting out under a tree with the sheep, just reading my Bible and really enjoyed that. Unfortunately that won’t be possible very often because of all the rain that is supposed to come this winter. Friday we had our first seminar, which was on Worship. It was ok, a little more interactive than normal lectures, but not anything profound. Friday night was family group night, and our host parents, Phil and Rachael, took us in a minibus to their small village of Warton. It supposedly has connections to the George Washington family. Later at their house we played games, and got to try some awesome English cheeses, ... read more

Had a few firsts today, including going for a run, climbing up the tower, and bathroom cleaning duty. No assignments yet, not really looking forward to those. Lectures are pretty good so far, especially Rob’s. Kim however has an interesting accent, takes long pauses, and doesn’t have as easy of a structure to follow in her powerpoint making it hard to stay interested and take notes for her lectures on prayer (not really bad though). I’m looking forward to family groups tomorrow and our trip to the lake district this weekend.... read more

The long, long wait is almost over! This moment seemed like a distant dream when 18 months ago Rach and I, sat in the Blackbull, pen and napkin in hand tipsily jotted down an unrealistic list of far flung destinations that we were to journey to by plane, train and automobile. After seemingly a lifetime of planning, re-planning and re-re planning we are now less than an hour away from embarking on our somewhat more realistic yet still ambitious adventure around the world, encompasing 10 countries on 4 continents meaning numerous new stamps in the passport! The bags are packed (minus hair straighteners and high heal shoes), the first part of the journey from Preston to Heathrow is complete and as we sit here watching the planes take off and land the nerves and excitment have ... read more

It's time to really make a difference with this blog. So I am half way through building the last minute itinerary for the trip. Only half way into the list of places to visit when you realise that time is tight. Priority now, what to see and what to miss. Whale watching has now moved from doing it in Sydney to doing it in Brisbane. Dose anybody have any feelings on that? Which is a better place to see them? I am thinking that even though we have an itinerary, things will change when we arrive in the various cities. People will tell us, go here and there, use this tour company etc. So things are loose and changeable. We booked a night visit to Alcatraz. The reviews read good and said 'it more eerie and ... read more
