Healey Dell The group of girls and I headed to Healey Dell nature reserve to visit Sarah and her family for the first half of our intersemester break! We attempted to play snooker, but failed to finish a sin We explored the dell and found some prospective homes for the four of us and then after the two girls left Sarah and I explored the Greater Manchester area and all of the National Trust sites that were open in the middle of winter. Hint- there aren't very many. We went to two mills (it was Manchester after all), two national trust houses... read more

Its finally the night before the great adventure into the unknown commences! I'm so excited, not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight! Everything is packed (just!) with a little help and my rucksack isn't too heavy, hopefully won't be too bad lugging it around! First few night's accomadation has been sorted with Chelsea (my cousin) which was really kind of her, though some would say foolish to agree to put up Alex and me! We arrive in Buenos Aires at 0850 local time on Thursday 17th with just each other and our backpacks, let the journey begin!... read more

We both finished work a week ago, (lots of lovely presents and cards, thanks to all concerned) all flights have been booked, numerous Lonely planet guides bought, new backpack bought and packed, favourite music loaded onto our MP3 players, and of course loads of 'goodbye' meals with friends and family. Then the mundane things: house cleaned, fridge almost empty, freezer defrosted, laundry basket empty, ironing done! Why? Because we are off on a four month trip to S.E.Asia! When Stan and I first met many years ago in Spain, we talked about doing some serious travelling. Well it never really happened for one reason or another until recently when, for the last three years, we dabbled our feet, so to speak, and spent the six week long school summer breaks travelling. This time, however it's going ... read more

Hi All, Sorry for the delay in updating my blog once again. I have been busy trying to reflect on the two weeks since being back. The duration of the mission trip required team members to immerse themselves in many different situations and tasks. The first seven days, as mentioned in my previous blog, was spend in Rwanda where we participated in rural development projects, including funding and working on the construction of two houses; one for a widow and one for a recently orphaned twenty two year old boy who has the responsibility of caring for his two younger siblings. Time was also spent engaging in home visits to various vulnerable families and also learning about, visiting and supporting church led community mobilisation projects. The next eight days of the mission trip were spent in ... read more

For more of my photos, or to buy my book, please visit www.nickkembel.com My name is Nick. I have been a member of the punk rock movement since Rancid released ‘And Out Come the Wolves’ 15 years ago, though I refuse to adopt the label of punk rocker because I have the soul of a hippy and the lifestyle of a spiritual nomad. I have spent the better part of the last 10 years wandering through some of the most feared and misunderstood corners of the earth, to seek beauty and to experience first-hand the equality, solidarity and unity of all people. For a few years now I have been living in Taiwan, one of the most homogeneous and conformist cultures on earth. I have my reasons and I love my life here, but an ... read more

We set the alarm and got up early, today was the day we were off to Blackpool Pleasure Beach. When we arrived we collected our tickets and ran through the gates like excited children. We headed straight for The Big One and to our surprise the queue was only about 20 minutes long. We even got the seats right at the front. For those of you who don’t know, the Big One when first opened was the highest, fastest and steepest rollercoaster in the world. It doesn’t hold any of these records anymore but its still a fantastic rollercoaster. Next and after some convincing I managed to get Andy to go on the Ice Blast. This shoots you 230 feet in the air at 80 miles an hour then drops you back down again. It was ... read more

Off to London tomorrow to meet the rest of the team before flying on Sunday morning :-) The past couple of weeks have been so busy getting ready to fly off but God has been AMAZING!!!! He has totally provided for my every need and the charity auction evening smashed all my expectations in terms of fundraising (even though only approx 20 people turned up I managed to raise an astounding £1035) and my family were so supportive. Both my home church and the church I used to attend at university have been so supportive and have blessed me greatly. I have managed to raise enough money to buy lots of things for the children, including some educational material and some childrens bible stories and colouring books and fun games. All I can see is Praise ... read more
