Hi all, So with little under a month to go I think preperations are starting to make headway! I have now managed to get together £550 of total amount needed to be raised and am holding a charity auction evening on the 24th of this month - please pray I start getting more replies and donations from the 76 companies I have wrote too! God is faithful and I thank him so much that he's not letting funding issues worry me or be a source of anguish. I'm very peaceful in my travel preparations compared to normal. I thought I would provide the link for the Samaritan's Purse website for you all to take a look at so that you can gain a deeper understanding of the wonderful work they do: http://www.samaritans-purse.org.uk/ Please be praying for ... read more

For those who don't know what this is all about lets take you back a bit! In January this year I placed an application to Samaritans Purse (well known for their ‘Operation Christmas Child’ project - shoe box distribution) to undertake a 5 month internship with themselves, through the North Carolina head office, that was due to start upon my graduation from university next month. This internship would have provided me with an opportunity to learn about the work of Samaritans Purse and different development approaches, all of which are responding to the blighting phenomenon of poverty. I was however unsuccessful in this application. I was initially really disheartened by this and questioned whether God was indeed, as I thought he was, calling me into a career in international development. However, after speaking to a member ... read more

21st April ‘09 Great Aunt Gwen is attired in leather driving gloves. She happily pilots the Mercedes well under the speed limit. Full beam dazzles other road users, and she occasionally deigns to indicate off a roundabout, all the while calling me ‘daahling.’ She is taking me to a Lancashire village, for a hearty meal with her daughter Judith and Judith’s husband Tom. Again, I’m not sure what sort of a relation Judith is - a cousin twice removed, or something equally convoluted, I expect. Judith has a super house - a sheep farm, actually - that is a seventeenth century wool store on an old packhorse route. All is going swimmingly - animals clucking and baaing - until I’m not allowed a beer because I have to cycle later this evening. Tssk is what I ... read more

19th April ‘09: In all the excitement, I forgot to mention that Namibian - or Don Juan, to his friends - has had a ladyfriend with him for the last few days. No, she has not been picked up as a disposable pleasure along the way; this is Janet, and they live together. Namibian, rather generously, has been allowing her to sleep in the truck with him. Outrageous I know, and he accuses me of being a ‘tight arcs’. Even I used to shell out for a hotel when Boiler flew out for a few days on tour - admittedly a cheap one, but nonetheless the rooms were always more than six foot square. If, as Swiss Justine once asked, you’re wondering how Namibian fits in the cabin on his own, we are now faced with ... read more

The sun never did shine in Bradford on Sea, but then that was probably too much to hope for in mid-January. The wide sweep of Morecambe Bay remained shrouded in low cloud and cold temperatures for the duration, but the welcome was warm. The statue of Eric looks out over the town from the seafront - perhaps keeping an eye out on the Wetherspoons named after him in the town centre. The Bay found favour in Victorian times with: “a temperature of the mildest, a death rate of the lowest, a noble bay within easy reach of the Lake Country, with air pure and bracing, a low number of bacteria per litre of water, a proportionately high oxygen count in the air and an absence of fog” The Bay is still noble and within easy reach ... read more

Thursday 24.12.2009 Day 70 Preston It snowed again last night but we had to sort out our car stuff before going back to the Eu so we went to the motor register in Preston. We tried to park in their car park but there was so much snow that we could park and there look to be cars that had been stuck there over night and they were trying to dig there selves out. We parked in a super market close by but had to walk though knee high snow to get back to the motor register lucky our car was sorted out within an hour and we got back to our resort safely. ... read more

Tuesday 22.12.2009 Day 68 Hadrian’s Wall All though is snow lots again last night we decided to brave the snow again today and go to Hadrian’s Wall. Hadrian ’s Wall was built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian in 122AD, it Stretches for 80 Miles from Newcastle to Bowness- on-Solway near Carlisle, and was the northern frontier of the empire for almost 300 years. It was superseded in Norman times by dozens of castles and fortified houses some of which remain largely intact. We went to see one of the forts that where still very intact it was closed due to winter but still worth the drive in the snow. The roads around the wall where covered in snow and we skidded along the road almost into another as we came to one intersection but we took ... read more

Monday 21.12.2009 Day 68 William Wordsworth It snow lots last night and the snow was very think but we decided to try and go for a drive today this time the road from the resort to the motorway was ploughed so we could get out. We went to Dove Cottage where William and his sister Dorothy Wordsworth lived and where he wrote most of his work. We got a book on their life at the cottage which was very interesting. They lived together all of their life and they seem to have a much stronger bond then William did with his wife. Dorothy never married they also had lots of visitors to the house and the visitors even moved house with them when they moved. Dorothy kept detailed dairies of their life. When William became the ... read more
