We arrived in Mui Ne in the dead of night and set out in search of our pre-booked guesthouse 'Hai Yen'. Once found we intended to have a nice early night, but our new Kiwi friends (that joined us on the bus) had other ideas and we sat up drinking and chatting to the early hours! We woke early, and feeling remarkably fresh we wandered around our new home which included a fancy pool! As the waves were good in Mui Ne our Kiwi friends said they would teach us how to surf so we hired mopeds in search of hiring boards. We quickly decided to stop for a swim in the sea to cool down before carrying on along the coast. The views were beautiful as we drove through the little sleepy beach town. We ... read more

After another long bus journey - 7 hours - we arrived in Vietnam. The border crossing was easy peasy as we already had our Vietnamese Visa sorted. We feel like millionaires here as the currency is 30,000 dong to the pound! We made friends with the guys and girls in our dorm room and after settling in we went out for pancakes and coffee with a Dutch and a German girl. We had a very relaxed evening watching the crazy traffic of Saigon! We have never seen so many mopeds, 100s queue up in every direction so when the lights turn green it is madness. Top tip is to just keep walking, don't stop and panic as they will avoid you! After an early night we spent the day with Soraya (the dutch girl), we also ... read more

It was another 6 hour journey to Phnom Penh, where we were met at the bus station by our tuk tuk driver and taken to the guesthouse "Encounters". It was a lovely place run by an English man and on arrival we decided to stay two nights which meant we could have our washing done for free! Happy days! The dorm room slept 8 people and consisted of a mattress on the floor and your own mossy net. An experience to say the least! We explored the grand palace in the afternoon which looked amazing on the outside with lots of little temples and was very grand! After heading back and showering, our Canadian friend walks in!! We headed out for tea and then sat with him and some of his friends on the riverside drinking ... read more

The bus dropped us at the Cambodian border, where we met an American family who also looked a bit lost so we decided to all stick together. The actual crossing was very easy though! To get to Siem Reap from the border took another 2 hours so we squashed into a taxi with the Americans in search of our hostel. Despite prebooking, on arrival our hostel was subsequently full due to there being a marathon around Angkor Wat the next day so we were sent to their 'sister hotel' "Pop Rendezvous" which was a bit of a step backwards from our hotel in Bangkok (no room lock and very questionable sheets)! As it was late we had a nice meal and headed back early to look for another hostel and to get an early night. We ... read more

After arriving 6 hours early to Heathrow, a 2 hour delay and wearing our backpacks for the first time (with jumpers) we gave up on finding the train quickly and opted for a taxi to take us to the hotel. That evening we headed out to the China town, the smells could only be described as interesting and after walking aimlessly through the busy streets we settled on mango and sticky rice for tea. Jet lag got the better of us that night and we sat wide awake until 5am. We deserved a lie in and then set off to explore the temple of Wat Arun (the temple of the rising sun) and to see the giant reclining Budda which was very impressive. Unfortunatly the Grand Palace was shut so we sat in a riverside bar ... read more
