Oxfam Wood Green’s shop manager had decided to take us to Southend for the annual summer excursion in 2014. I had noticed that it would be more convenient to travel to Southend from Fenchurch Street near Tower Hill rather than from Liverpool Street. He got the tickets for us to travel with the c2c train from Fenchurch Street to Southend Central on 31 August. Southend seems to be smaller and more compact than Brighton – a few-minutes’ walk from the station brought us to the seaside and viewpoint to the Southend Pier. Like Brighton, there was a fun-fair with various rides, stalls and arcade centres. Some of young volunteers were interested in these kinds of things and they entered the fun-fair while we were walking on the seaside. There was nothing interesting on the east edge ... read more

Departing London we headed to Chelmsford in Essex, North-East of the capital. As this required a transit between two of London's mainline train stations at peak hour and doing battle on the Tube with increasingly heavy suitcases in tow did not appeal, we opted for a black cab. After taking steps to ensure the cab we would board at the rank at Euston Station was actually black, as opposed to some of the garish colour schemes currently polluting the streets of London, we settled into the back seat to enjoy the morning gridlock around London. It became clear why the Tube, even when crowded, is the preferred option, but at least we added another genuine London experience to our trip. This was enhanced when the cabbie farewelled us at our destination, Liverpool St Station, complete with ... read more

So guys we are all check in! The hardest good byes ever have taken place but now it's time to start the adventure. The flight is on time (this is a first as me and johnny tend to jinx any flight we go on), we have free magazines worth £6 (bonus, seen as we are unemployed) and Tash is now frantically looking/ turning her home upside down in attempt to find her hidden treasures, which we wrote all instructions in thai so this could take a while! We are planned to arrive in Dubai at around 9pm UK time which will be about midnight there. We are hoping for good views and I'm planning on dragging johnny round to look at gold for 3 hours (his unaware of this at this time) Then we continue our ... read more

Before anything else, me and Meeka sat down and wrote a list... We realised that packing up and jetting off around the world wouldn't just be an over night thing. Research is mandatory! Here is the list we want to cover before the dreaded day that we tell our family, friends & employers that we are disappearing. We think we have covered everything here so feel free to copy for your own use. In order of importance: 1. Where Are We Going? Research the countries that we plan to visit and plan a route. 2. Do We Need Visa's? Find out about visa's and if we will be needing them. If so, acquire them. 3. How Are We Getting There? Search for flights. Find the best times and prices to suit us. (Obviously the cheapest!) 4. ... read more

We have always talked about travelling the world, fantasising about how we would do it and where we would go. It wasn't until last summer when Meeka's brother made the jump and moved out to Australia that we decided to 'stop talking and start doing'. Before now, we have only ever been on short holidays or done the odd bit of seasonal work around Europe. But now we are ready to conquer the World! Join us as we begin the journey around our beautiful planet. Not only will we be sharing our stories, pictures and experiences, but we will also be giving help and tips right from off set. From booking flights and getting visas to finding jobs and places to crash! Welcome to our blog... Its Us Against The World!... read more

Hi everyone, I would like to say a massive thank you to everyone for all your well wishes and gifts before I left, it was so lovely and it really did make my week. It was a very emotional week for me (with goodness knows how many tears) but nonetheless I am extremely excited now. There is only a week to go until I'm on my way to Sydney, Australia! I will have been in the air for 30 mins this time next week, with another 22 to go! Ahhh! I am going to miss you all greatly (and already do). I look forward to hearing from everyone on here very soon! Lots of love, Miss Jo xx... read more
