Our first post which means we really must be close to leaving on our camper van adventures! Our camper van is vintage VW 1979 Westfalia. His number plate is BUD so we affectionately call him Bud Dub (Dub being a name given to VW vans…get it? VW….Vdub….). So these will be our Bud Dub adventures! We’re hoping to set off to Europe at the beginning of April and here on travel blog we’ll be able to keep everyone up to date and no doubt make you all dread our weekly gloating update. But there you go. Least you can’t say we haven’t been in touch! So the story so far….. (you can skip this bit if you want and just jump to the pictures….go on…..) We bought a hunk of junk in May 2012. A metal ... read more

Where to start?? A question that applies to this blog as well as to planning our trip! Travelling was never on my list of 'to do's', I've worked hard, and enjoyed it (mostly), but most of my earnings just went towards the upkeep of my flat and perhaps a week in the sun or, more recently, walking holidays. Then I met Steve and learned that he has, for a long time, had a dream of travelling Europe in a camper van! He's far more widely travelled than me to begin with, this not being difficult as I had never ventured further than a Greek Island when we planned our first holiday together last year to Vietnam! What an amazing holiday that was, a fantastically diverse country, and definitely sparked a desire (and a confidence: long haul ... read more

Last blog from the UK. Leaving tomorrow at 3:00pm on the Eurostar to Paris then changing onto a night train which will get us to Oktoberfest (I mean Munich) by about 7:00am. Anyway since the last entry we have travelled through The Lakes District with Alan and Deborah kindly offering to be our tour guides once again. We stopped off at a remote and great little pub called 'Wasdale Head Inn" We then continued on to Hardknott Pass, and then Wrynose Pass. Ive attached a link to a website with some details on it here , incase anyone is interested. But they are two very narrow winding roads over some very remote country. Fortunately the hire car survived. We went to a great Italian Restaurant "La Fattoria" for d... read more

Spent yesterday touring Buckingham Palace, audio guide included which kept John very happy. Although dissapointed he could not find the Queen or Katie and William. Also took the kids for a ride on a double decker bus, had a tour of the Royal Mews and went to an exhibition of Leonardo Da Vinci's drawings from the 1500's. Had dinner with Roy Frost, Susan and Christine and Dave at Roys house. Today we will pick up the hire car, and head for Nottingham, and then onto Harrogate to spend a couple of days touring around York. Still working on downloading the photos, hope to have some up soon Love Darren, Tanya, Carolyn, Hayley and John... read more

Packing!!! What a bloody nightmare and I mean I have literally been dreaming about my packing it has worried me so much! As my mum has been away on holiday for 8 days I was left to pack by myself, yes I know I am 21, but I have a lot of clothes that I like. In the end I invited my crazy Auntie Sue to help and she was ruthless with me, we ended the morning with a suitcase full of essencials and a lounge covered in clothes, shoes, bags, belts and products. All of these clothes had been deamed as England clothes so as you can imagine it was big jumpers and boots. After a very trying morning for Auntie Sue I felt a lot better :) since then I have continued to un-pack ... read more
