Day 17 Tuesday 9 October Cloud Soup Wake up 7:30am Breaky 7:45pm Leave 8:30 Breaky was okay. Nice lot of bacon and eggs. We left for our country excursion at 8:30am. There was a lot of cloud cover, so we couldn’t see the mountains. We had 2 Swiss Carriages (more like wagons) waiting for us near the local school. The ride was quaint and peaceful. There was ZERO noise in this sleep town. It was lovely looking at all the little local houses and gardens. We stopped at Han’s house for some beautiful home cooked cakes, drinks and wonderfully freshly squeezed apple juice. The horses all had bells on their reins which sounded beautiful. The cow bells were beautiful music. Delightful. This was a perfect morning out. We arrived back at 11:15am to pick up the ... read more

Hey, big news this time... I've got somewhere to live!!! And it's pretty cool, a ground floor apartment with a couple of Swiss girls (who have a taste for red wine and understand a Kiwi accent). It's great, i've got a room - stoked! The girls are pretty relaxed, and fully subscribe to the Swiss tradition of filling the house with plants - the kitchen's covered in creepers, and their rooms resemble micro jungles. I was dreading having to get used to an upper floor apartment disassociated in all but noise from the outside world, but this area's really green, and we have a small deck that opens out to the lawn in the back :) After a year and a half on the move, even getting lost in Ikea with armloads of essentials (curtains, lights, ... read more

Day 17 Monday 8 October 2007 The Lake and the Lion of Lucern Wake up :6am Bags 6:30am Leave 7:30am Breakfast was pretty average again and my shower was cold. Not a good start when you don’t feel very well. We left for Lucern. There was a nice drive through the Apennines and then a stop at an Autogrill. Rob ordered a hot chocolate and virtually got pudding in a cup. Hilarious. It came out with the spoon standing straight up in the middle. It tasted nice, but not as a drink. Mostly a travel day today. As we crossed the Swiss Frontier, we watched them searching the car of a young couple very thoroughly. We weren’t stopped at all. We stopped at a self service spot for lunch. The food was lovely and fresh looking. ... read more

I was never so much into weddings, yet here I was, flying back to Switzerland to celebrate our third wedding. Adam and I got married in Telluride, Oct 26th, with just our parents. So, we felt that we should do a wedding reception with his side of the family in New Hampshire (happened in Feb 2007) and one with my side of the family and my friends in Switzerland. We set the date for Oct 6th. Adam was in Switzerland when I arrived there from Seattle. He had just finished his Alpine Guide Course in Chamonix and had been in Switzerland for already three weeks. My parents had organized everything for the wedding and the only thing left to do was to buy something to wear for the bride -aka- Me! My parents had rented a ... read more

Last time I wrote, i think it was Berlin. Ya, thats right. In between then and now: Paris. Hulled Ass. Fi and I pushed hard in Paris cause any longer than 3 nights would have done a number on my bank account. But enough of the ugly truth of traveling in Europe! Paris was wonderful and I think part of that had to do with the rain and midweek timing. Crowds were low, humidity high and everything else just right. We did and saw most of the major stuff, but the Musee dOrsay blew me away. Although I have not been to EVERY museum in the entire world, so far I would say its pretty much perfect. I could have stayed there for a very long time. Sidenote: Traveling has been amazing for my dreams. I ... read more

Hello! Michelle and I left Munich for Zurich for the weekend. We decided to go somewhere mellow and just hang out to get away from Oktoberfest. We stayed in a great hostel (City Backpackers) right in the center of town. Zurich is pretty small, but is full of cafes and restaurants. It´s clean, with cute little cobble stone streets, a clean canal, and gorgeous buildings... the downside of Zurich? Its SUPER expensive. Although Switzerland uses the Swiss Franc, which has a better conversion rate to the dollar than the Euro, it does not belong to the European Union. This means that their food, wine, etc. is not subsidised. Meals in Zurich are literally twice as expensive as anywhere else. The International Film Festival was happening in Zurich, which was exciting. We saw an English Documentary called ... read more

Hello all, sorry no pictures this time, just an update. Ross and I are in Zermatt right now which is the Whistler town here in Switzerland. The famous mountain in the area that you may have heard of is the Matterhorn! We hiked yesterday and it was spectacular, the pictures will follow the next time we are in a place that allows us to upload them. The weather has turned and the forcast is for rain for the next couple of days so I think we are going to hop on a train to Venice today or tomorrow morning. We have found a cheap hostel there so hopefully it wont be too expensive. Since it is becoming winter here we are looking into some hiking further south in Corsica. I have heard great things about that ... read more
