SwissMiss - Caroline George

As a child, my family and I would spend our holidays on the road, with climbing as an excuse to explore different countries every trip.

This part of my childhood forged the life I lead today: through guiding, being a professional athlete and being married to a passionate climber, I live a life of constant discovery, exploration and adventure.

Sharing stories and pictures of my travels and adventures with people I love gives purpose to this amazing life I am privileged to live!

It's sure feels like it's taken me a while to go down the blog road for this trip. Well, lots has been going on since I returned: a two full day drive back, unpacking, repacking for the Red Rocks RDV, unpacking, repacking for the Goddesses on Rock Sterling Rope event in Joshua Tree, driving back to Vegas, flying to SLC on April 22nd, and picking my parents up that same night for their three week long stay with us. And while I was in Canada, Adam flew to Switzerland, took his advanced ski course in Chamonix, flew back, went to Red [View Full Entry]

Adam had never been to Paris, so we flew from Paris to Marrakech, taking the TGV from Geneva. We met up in Paris with my uncle, JB, his wife, DIDI and my aunt, Chantal and rode bikes around to discover Paris by night. Yap! Bikes! There is a new system in Paris, called Velib (www.velib.paris.fr): every 300m are bikes stations where you can pick up or return a bike for super cheap (free for the first 30min!). Outstanding! Someone recommended that we take a taxi from the Gare du Nord to the Orly airport. Big mistake as we got totally ripped [View Full Entry]

I was never so much into weddings, yet here I was, flying back to Switzerland to celebrate our third wedding. Adam and I got married in Telluride, Oct 26th, with just our parents. So, we felt that we should do a wedding reception with his side of the family in New Hampshire (happened in Feb 2007) and one with my side of the family and my friends in Switzerland. We set the date for Oct 6th. Adam was in Switzerland when I arrived there from Seattle. He had just finished his Alpine Guide Course in Chamonix and had been in Switzerland [View Full Entry]

Walking down the Aisle: Adam and Carol

Aug 26th: I forgot to mention in my past entry that I totalled my car while driving from Jackson Hole to Salt Lake City early July, by driving into a deer. So, we spent the whole summer sharing a car. Therefore, Adam had to drive me to Salt Lake City to catch my flight to Seattle. I flew to the northwest and later that day, Adam flew to Yosemite. Somehow, I was happy to take a break from climbing, and this yoga teacher training was the best opportunity to do just that. I flew in and took a bus to downtown [View Full Entry]

Quebec 2002: The Ice World Cup is holding an event in Quebec City. It's cold. I go into the Petzl trailer to get a little quesadilla. Sitting across from me is Stephen Koch (http://www.stephenkoch.com): Stephen is a strong alpinist, living Jackson Hole. He is out here for the comp. We get talking. As always, I am wondering what the next step in my life is going to be (5years later, I am still wondering what my next step in life is... I'm obvioulsy not great at that standard 5 year projection!!!!). Stephen suggests that I get in touch with Exum Mountain [View Full Entry]

Icelandic Ice Europe » Iceland » Southwest » Reykjavík
Icelandic Ice Trip report: http://www.thenorthface.com/na/expeditions/expeditions-2007-iceland.html Iceland: land of sea, glaciers, sulfer smelling water and fumes, rain, snow, winds, whales, lava and, last but not least ice! I flew to Reykjavik from London Heathrow. At the counter, the lady told me that I would have to pay 150$ for extra luggage. On Icelandair, you get a penalty for flying with skis! On United, your skis go on for free and are not regarded as a piece of luggage. Go figure! When the man announced the cost, I burst into tears! With so much back and forth, from Ethiopia to the United States, [View Full Entry]

Honeymooning in Patagonia What better place to honeymoon than Patagonia. With the bad reputation of the weather, you are pretty much garanteed lots of quality time, stuck in the tent. And this is just what happened to us! We arrived in Patagonia early November, with the hope to climb ice as this is supposed to be the high season for ice! After a long flight to Buenos Aires and then El Calafate, we took a bus to El Chalten. It was pouring down and cold when we stepped off the bus. The next day, we were setting up camp in the [View Full Entry]
