Hey guys! I'm still doing really well since the last entry (which makes sense since the last one was a week ago). Lots of homework right now as midterms quickly approach, but the homework load is nowhere near as heavy as it would have been in St. Louis, so I have no reason to complain. Belgium is also somehow managing to hold onto the semi-warm weather, which I have been told is a miracle in itself, so I am just trying to enjoy the sun as it comes and goes. My good news? I just spent a gorgeous and wonderful weekend in Interlaken, Switzerland with two friends from SLU, Tony Besse and Megan Kenny. We left Thursday afternoon and took a 10-hour train ride through Germany, Luxembourg, and France to get there, but it went pretty ... read more

The First day, after somewhat a long flight, I landed in Zurich, (and it is 6 am!!!with no sleep for 12 hour), I am holding to my train schedule, never been really on a trip on my own. Half scared, take a train to Appenzell, but end up didn't stop at Appenzell, due to the fact that appenzell is a very little city. I'm afraid I'm gonna end up TI would be closed. So I choose to go up the Alp on the first day.... The train is very slow by the way... (only one way... what the hell). Then I get off the train... it is like the most remote town you ever imagine... very nice yellow flower across the field, Swiss cow you only think you saw in TV(and they have the real swiss ... read more

We have been in Switzerland for 2 weeks now and have been around much of the country so this blog will be more of a summary of the best bits. From France we drove into Switzerland, Through Martingny, across to Zermatt at the base of the Matterhorn, across the Grimselpass to Interlaken, up to Grindelwald at the base of the Eiger, then out of Switzerland via Bern and Basel (on our way to the Black forrest in Germany). Back into Switzerland at Kreuzlingen (at lake Constance) through St Gallen to briefly pop into the 6th smallest country in the world (Liechtenstein) then through Chur, the Oberalppass, Luzern and then to Solothurn where we are staying with Matthias a friend of Richards from high school. Did you get all that? From Solothurn we have been to Zurich, ... read more

Yes, I've decided to start blogging. I am trying to explain myself 2 things: why didn't I do it before and why am I doing it now. I cant find the Answers. I have no idea. and I don't care (in a different life I would probably go mad over not knowing something but now _ I don't care...I think that its the fact that I don't trust my writing skills, never wanted to write / be a writer / publish my thoughts or ideas. Whenever I was reading other people's blogs or stories I found my self thinking: I wish I could do it, I wish I could write like them. and they are not famous writers. YET. they are normal people. O.k. not normal. they are people. and inspiration. I think that everything is ... read more

Greetings from Switzerland! We arrived here after an amazing train journey from Lake Como. There were huge, huge mountains (some snow capped) and beautiful clear green streams and lakes. It was really picturesque and really enjoyable. So, news since we last updated. After Cinque Terre we went to Milan for 2 nights. Mixed feelings about Milan. The shops of course were impressive and completely over the top (as expected). Unfortunately our budget didn't extend to the 20,000 euro roberto cavalli dress...... Did manage to find some shops that were reasonably priced and bought a few things (of course...). The Duomo was beautiful and the main city area was fairly nice. Nowhere near the beauty and atmosphere of Rome though. There were also some dodgy areas proabably best not mentioned here.... The highlight was definitely seeing the ... read more

Hiiiii. I'm in Switzerland! It's so awesome here, we're in a little town called Interlaken which is surrounded by mountains. We only got here yesterday afternoon and sadly we are leaving tomorrow. Yesterday we didn't do much, we had to get up some ungodly hour in the morning in order to catch a train from Gare De Lyon in Paris to get here. The hostel we're staying in is the nicest we've stayed in so far. We have a 6 bed dorm which we're sharing with one other guy called James. Yesterday afternoon we went for a walk and James swam in the freezing lake, crazy English. At night we spent ages trying to find cheap food eventuallz we found an awesome pizza place. We got pizza for 7 francs! BARGAIN! We also went out that ... read more

Hello from Geneva! This morning was yet another adventure! Our pilots from paragliding yesterday suggested we check out the "Forest Fun Park" (yes I know, it sounds corny). But we took their advice and headed there after leaving the hostel. And it was pretty sweet! It was the best ropes course I had ever seen. There were swings and bridges and zip lines criss-crossing over a river and through the trees. We certainly got our workout for the day! After spending a couple of hours there, we grabbed sandwiches from a bakery and started towards Geneva. After a long but beautiful train ride, we got here. And now I am on the computer in the hostel. Tomorrow we are visiting the UN offices here and I'm not sure what else. Then we spend the night in ... read more

Buy the ticket, take the ride Dr H.S. Thompson With ticket in hand, I suddenly see a paradox in Hunter's statement.. How much of the ride is what you make of it? How often is the ticket just the licence to get started? This time my "ride" is with the Eng. Geologists here at ETH, and it's going to last for (probably) the next 3 years. I have a seat (with a table), a card to get me cheap(ish) food at the cafeteria, and a guarantee of money that should cover everything else - I hope! I was kinda homesick last night, I lay awake till 4am listening to the midday Sunday show on RadioActive streaming over the internet... Good memories. It's the evening here now, and I haven't really left this couch all day. Getting ... read more
