I am a 24 year old Brazilian-American that LOVES to travel. I travel to Brazil quite frequently, however, I have not yet gone to very many other places. This year has surprisingly turned into the year of travel for me. I have been to Brazil twice, NYC, nearby (LA, SD, Las Vegas), and now Europe. I am planning a 2-3 month trip to Europe (depending on when the money runs out).

We arrived in Budapest the day before their Independence day. In 1956, while under communist rule, students protested the government and were masicured. People where jailed at the Terror house for years based on pure suspicion. Hungarians are not too happy with the current Prime minister, so on their Independence day this year, they gathered with holy flags (the Hungarian flag with the communist symbol cut out that has been popular since the revolution began). These are people that have suffered in the hands of the Nazis and commis. They have had little to no peace throughout their history, so when they don't agree with something, they fight. As an American, I respect their fight. We get so comfortable in our day to day lives. We complain and grip, but don't act. Hungarians gathered in a ... read more

We arrived in Krakow early morning. We took the overnight train from Prague. We met a guy from San Diego and another from Colorado on the train. We spent the 8 hour trip in a 8 seater cabin chatting. The four of us tried to find the most strategic places to sleep, the best of which was Paul's (Colorado). Paul brought a hamik along and put it up in our cabin. It made for a great sleeping spot and as entertainment to all ticket checkers/passport patrol who entered our cabin. After taking a short nap after finding our hostel, we ate breakfast in the hostels common room. We met a Seattle-ian named Peter. He had no plans for the day and had already spent a week in Krakow. We all decided to spend the day together ... read more

Expecting more in Prague

I had been informed by many people who have visited Prague that it is one of their favorite cities in Europe. I went to Prague with high hopes and an open mind. Prague is as beautiful as they say, but I did have mixed feelings about it. It might have been the wheather or the fact that our hostel was far from the center of town, but Prague was definetly not a highlight for me. We did a walking tour and saw all of the must sees. Charles bridge is amazing, the buildings are great, but for some reason I just did not feel that spark. Perhaps it was the high expectations... who knows. I dont have much to say about Prague... what I did take away from it was a few friendships. I met a ... read more

Hello Everyone! We are in Berlin and have experienced a bit of culture shock. After spending 16 days in Munich, we have landed in what looks like a completly different country. Munich is very beautiful, as are the people. People in Munich dress Banana Republicy and are very conservative/traditional. Michelle and I went to a night club in Munich once and were amazed to find that they really dont dance. They sort of sway from side to side... but thats about it. When we wore dresses with tights in Munich, we would get strange stares on the subway. Even our Greece tans got us the eye from most old ladies. In Berlin... things are very different. When we got onto the subway after we arrived we knew we were in another world. The people here are ... read more

Zurich for the weekend

Hello! Michelle and I left Munich for Zurich for the weekend. We decided to go somewhere mellow and just hang out to get away from Oktoberfest. We stayed in a great hostel (City Backpackers) right in the center of town. Zurich is pretty small, but is full of cafes and restaurants. It´s clean, with cute little cobble stone streets, a clean canal, and gorgeous buildings... the downside of Zurich? Its SUPER expensive. Although Switzerland uses the Swiss Franc, which has a better conversion rate to the dollar than the Euro, it does not belong to the European Union. This means that their food, wine, etc. is not subsidised. Meals in Zurich are literally twice as expensive as anywhere else. The International Film Festival was happening in Zurich, which was exciting. We saw an English Documentary called ... read more

Hello Everyone! I am still in Munich and loving it. Our roommate, Martin, took us to the countryside with him this weekend. His parents live in this great little town about 45 minutes away from Munchen. The homes there reminded me of Normandy. The green is GREEN and there is a huge lake with wind surfers and sailboats. The drive was beautiful with huge fields and homes with colorful gardens. When we arrived Martins father was preparing a homemade apple strudel for us. He also baked some fresh bread. We ate the yummy strudel with his family with whipped cream in the garden. We also read in the garden and talked. Their garden is small but cozy. It is taken care of meticulously and they have apple trees, walnut trees, goose berry trees (there are 50 ... read more

Une Mass No (one beer please)! Michelle and I are in Munich and yesterday was the first day of Oktoberfest. The tents and beer gardens were packed and it was difficult to get a beer, but we succeeded. The beer is tasty and there are also yummy giant pretzels and cookies. My goal yesterday was to receive a heart cookie necklace. These cookies are traditional and are given as a symbol of affection. I received my heart cookie and it made me smile. Too bad Michelle was the one that gave it to me. Sigh... We are staying in the flat of Martin, a very tall, attractive, and kind German man. Martin is about 6 feet 6 inches tall and smiles the entire time he speaks. One cant help but blush when he is talking. I ... read more

I left Ios yesterday and am now in Athens, Greece staying with some friends. We were planning on going to Budapest before we left for Oktoberfest, but flights were way too expensive. Instead, we stayed in a really cool area in Athens called Glyfada for a day and a half. Glafada is beautiful and I wish we had known about it before staying in shitty Pireaus. It is a beach town with little to no tourists. Our friend works at a pub and let us crash at his place. One of the best things about Glafada? THE SWEETS! They sell these amazing cookies everywhere. They also sell eclairs, cakes, and a gazillion other deserts that look a lot like Brazilian deserts. Tomorrow we are off to Munich for Oktoberfest. We are meeting about 10 people from ... read more

Michelle and I are in Ios, Greece and we might not leave. We stayed in Athens for a couple of days (Athens kinda sucks) then we came to Ios to meet up with my friend Jeannine. Ios is a small party island with beautiful beaches. Most of the "locals" are people from all over the world that come to live and work here for a season. We met an Australian girl named Tamara and she may be our soul mate. We have also been hanging out with some Aussies and some "locals" that work at our hostel. Our room is cheap and there is a pretty amazing view. I hope all is well in the US! Kisses, tati... read more
