Hello Everyone!
I am still in Munich and loving it. Our roommate, Martin, took us to the countryside with him this weekend. His parents live in this great little town about 45 minutes away from Munchen. The homes there reminded me of Normandy. The green is GREEN and there is a huge lake with wind surfers and sailboats. The drive was beautiful with huge fields and homes with colorful gardens.
When we arrived Martins father was preparing a homemade apple strudel for us. He also baked some fresh bread. We ate the yummy strudel with his family with whipped cream in the garden. We also read in the garden and talked.
Their garden is small but cozy. It is taken care of meticulously and they have apple trees, walnut trees, goose berry trees (there are 50 million different berries here!), tomatoes, and many more.
Martin, Michelle, and I rode our bikes to the lake and took a little nap on the grass. Riding our bikes through the country was a spiritual experience. Most of the land is untouched. All there is are fields of grass, lilac flowers, or whatever happens to grow there. I felt like I was in a movie and it was 1940. The bike I rode is 50 years old and still functions as good as new.
Martins family was more than hospitable and welcoming. They cooked us 4 meals and were very interesting conversationalist. They even gave us some yummy apples to bring home.
We predict to leave for Prague on Wednesday. Martins sister Julia wants to go to Oktoberfest on Tuesday and we love hanging out with her, so we decided to stay a few more days.
I hope all is well in the US...send news!
