We went to Loro Park in Puerto de la Cruz today. In all the years we have been coming to Tenerife, we have never been there before. Loro Park is on the North side of the Island. There are 2 ways to get there. Across the mountains or around the East and North side of the Island on the motorway. We took the mountain road from home that took us past Mount Teide. We stopped a couple of times to take in the views and photographs. Just as we got past the entrance to the cable car up the mountain, we were met by a coach reversing along the road. We made the decision with others to overtake it. Found out that he was reversing to block the road as a coach and a lorry had ... read more

We took George’s sister and her husband to Los Cristianos market today. We stopped on way at a café near to the bus station for coffee Al Fresco. This is about 50 yards from the awful murder on Friday morning. Police seem to have done a good job of cleaning up the area, but there are still a few reminders of what happened here. There is a moving tribute at the scene. People have been talking about Tenerife for all the wrong reasons this weekend. There is hardly any crime here at all. Had a good walk around the market and all brought a few bits then walked through Los Cristianos Port to Las Americas where we had dinner at our favourite local restaurant, Surfers. George did not have a good sleep last night, so, along ... read more

George’s sister and her husband arrived today for a five day visit. They will be our first visitors to our new home. This is also their first time to the island. Got the apartment looking all clean and tidy for their arrival. We are very proud of where we are living. It lives up to our expectations. In the afternoon we walked down the hill to the village for coffee, and to see if they would be alright walking it the following day. Looks like they will be ok. We went to the Bahamas II steak restaurant in the evening to celebrate George’s Birthday. We saw a beautiful sun set on the horizon over a relaxed dinner. ... read more

We met our landlady for the first time on Thursday this week. She had not seen the apartment since it had been furnished. We did a complete spring clean so that she could see it at its best. Today, we were supposed to be going to the market in Torviscas, but both woke up feeling lazy, so decided to have a day locally instead. We are looking around for local places that George’s sister and her husband may like as they are arriving for their first visit on Saturday. We had been advised that Los Abrigos and El Medano would be worth a visit. Los Abrigos is a small town on the coast to the south of where we are living. There are a few small shops, but the draw seems to be the many mountain ... read more

Rose this morning to sunshine which makes a nice change from the recent dreary weather we have had. Took the bus to Los Cristianos market and the weather there was even nicer. Was about 24 degrees. Thankfully we had applied sun cream before leaving home. Bought a couple of small items from the market for the apartment and picked up the local free paper. Walked via the port to Las Americas and took in the good weather. We both got home a little browner than when we left in the morning. Sitting in the restaurant having lunch we noticed that Mount Teide had quite a thick layer of snow on the top of it. This is the crazy weather of Tenerife. As the weather was so good, we decided to walk back to Los Cristianos to ... read more

Well what a fast running month it has been in Tenerife. We are settling in very nicely here. We have placed our unique stamp on the lovely new apartment we now call home. It is cosy and uncluttered. A second visit to Ikea has completed it all for us. Our Spanish has improved greatly since we arrived. We can now sort out most things. We are very much enjoying the relaxing way of life here. We can do what we want when we want, and if we don’t want, we do nothing. The weather in Tenerife has not been good for the last couple of weeks, since the big storm on Sunday 17th April. We have not had so much rain since, but the sun does not show much at the moment. George’s sister is here ... read more

Since Sunday, the weather here has not been as good as you would expect for this time of year. Looks like the UK weather is better at the moment. This morning we woke to a clear blue sky all around. Went by local Titsa bus to Torviscas market this morning and managed to get the bath towels that we have been looking for and saved ourselves 7 Euros off the normal tourist price. It’s completely normal to barter for the best deal. When we left England, Michael and Carol bought us some Giraffe ornaments for the new apartment. They stand about 13 inches tall. A couple of weeks ago, we spotted a matching Giraffe that stands about 4 foot tall. We could obviously not get it home on the bus. George has already named it ‘George’ ... read more

We are making steady headway in putting together the furniture delivered from Ikea before we went to the UK. This morning we left home at about 8am to go to the market in Los Christianos. We both commented on how warm it looked before we left, so shorts and t-shirts it was. Whilst we were waiting at our usual bus stop on the motorway, the sky became very cloudy. We got to the market at about 9am and noticed that there did not appear to be many people around. On speaking to some of the stall holders, apparently there is a storm on its way, but no-one appears to know when it will hit. We had a good look around the market, but did not buy anything. We then walked upto the port as we are ... read more

We returned home to Tenerife today after a quick 2 day visit back to the UK. We had a few mundane things gathering up that needed sorting. Managed to collect our abandoned belongings from the old neighbours and sort out some other UK bits and pieces. We even purchased 2 new left hand drive head lamps for our new car and a universal bulb kit. This means we have absolutely everything now for legal driving in Tenerife. In spring, driving laws change over here. All British cars will be required to have their insurance details recorded on the Motor Insurers Database, even those on English plates with Insurance from mainland Spain. The majority are not as most drive over here without proper insurance cover. Saw George’s Mum who looks to have recovered well from her recent ... read more

This was our first visit to the market since we have been here permanently. On the bus journey here we have spotted a sign on the side of the road for a Suzuki dealer. It appears to be in the middle of no-where but we are coming back in the car on Monday to try to find it. Stopped on the way at a place that has aquariums of fish that can nibble away the hard skin on your feet and promote the growth of new skin called ictiotherapy. We both had a go of this. George does not have much hard skin, so they ended up drawing blood on him. Theresa has excessive hard skin so really got the benefit of it. She is going to have to have several sessions for it to completely ... read more
